Have you ever tried a 'pour on crust'? That's what my mom uses instead of pastry.

It's in cup measures, so sorry!

Pour on crust - for all sorts of meat/veggie pies!
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 1/2 cups buttermilk (or regular milk with a splash of lemon juice or vinegar for the twang)
    2 oz/~60g butter, melted
    dash of onion granules
    dash of salt
    dash of ground black pepper

Mix all ingredients together. Assemble pie. Pour crust on top, bake at 200C for 45 minutes - 1 hour or until crust has slightly risen and has turned golden brown.

Hope that helps! I use this one because it's way easier than fiddling with pastry, even bought pastry, plus it's less clean up and quicker. :)

I haven't really joined this challenge yet. Done a few in the past, but with the getting pregnant, losing the baby at 20 weeks pregnant, and pouring myself into making money through surveys and such online, I have lost the plot with saving money on groceries. I'm keeping up with everything this month and I'll make a goal to stay under when the next month starts (the 25th or earlier, depending on when DH gets paid).

Had a spend in Mr.A and Mr.T. Needed baby milk and some rice cake for baby too.
Haven't itemised as my figures are wrong somewhere so I'm just using the total I have on my mobile which is higher than the total on my signature on here. Guessing I must have recorded a spend on my mobile but lost a receipt or something. Have updated my signature now accordingly.

Good luck mrs. Cautious I'm sure you will do it, you seem to be oozing enthusiasm and confidence which is a very positive sign

  • Added up my weekend spends - was at the OHs so he paid for us to have dinner out on Saturday as we couldn't be bothered to cook (he lives with 4 other male students, I avoid using their kitchen at all costs!!) and I treated us to icecreams and lunch today as we had a bit of a day out in the sunshine. Leaves about £22 to last out the month but the cupboard and freezer are well stocked...

I still haven't been shopping but OH has. He didn't ask for the cost of the bits he bought so I am not counting it. A bit of cheating but as our moneys are not joint I am taking advantage.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
