  • Urgh! House is still upside down.

3 items sold on ebay so need to go and buy some new packing stuff as have run out. Thankfully poundland in town is pretty good for that.

Large and not-needed table taken to the tip yesterday as hubby and I agreed it was too big and without chairs it was completely un-useable so it's gone! yay!

Hubby's desk fits well in the bedroom but I still have to re-pack the wardrobe but I'm going to take the opportunity to go through it all and get rid of the stuff I haven't worn/don't like and also pack up the stuff like the summer stuff in a suitcase that I've got lying around waiting to go up in the loft.

Also found a big bag of fabric and such that I'm not going to get chance to use (I have a sewing machine but it's not seen light of day for nearly 2 years as I am not very good and don't have the space to have it out all the time.) so that all needs sorting, rubish needs chucking and then I may put it on facebook see if anyone wants it. If not it's going in a box properly.

  • Had a de-cluttering brainwave last night while getting ready for bed (why always late at night?)
Old microwave gave up the ghost, so is on its way to re-cycling centre. :( New one only arriving tomorrow, so have cleaned newly exposed horror area on worktop, now spotless and ready. Decided to de-clutter rest of worktop, so managed to store bread in cake box in cupboard ( recent serious diet changes due to DH's health, so very little cake/biscuits ever in house now). Using biscuit barrel to store cooking utensils. Keeping chopping boards in tray space. Kitchen looks much lighter and brighter. This pm, will look into cupboards.
Shame we must replace microwave, but it is combination with oven/grill, and I use it a lot, hopefully saving on elec. Old one was 11 years old, price increased about 30%

I need to defrost the fridge freezer so I have been going through the contents. Chucked out the ends of jam, marmalade and mayo jars.

Also threw away an old bottle of hair serum. I don't even bother blowdrying my hair anymore so don't need serum.:D

  • I've had a bunch of items I've been unable to sell on facebook or eBay for a while now so decided to take them and raid the house for other suitable items to donate to FLAG (Flooding on the Levels Action Group). As a result of clearing my late dads house I'd acquired quite a few 'usable' bits which I couldn't just throw out so I was glad to put them to good use. There are plea's out there for all sorts of simple things, e.g. toiletries, blankets, non-perishable foods, toys for kids etc, and I was able to tick most of the boxes. One good quality but old throw, unused towels, sanitary items, spray deodorant (I only use roll-ons), some underwear I'd bought but didn't like the shape of so never wore, and threw in a board game and some books I'd not managed to sell.

I don't know if there are many followers of this thread in the west country but it's a good way to de-clutter and help out at the same time :)

  • Hi - I am new to this thread but have now caught up on the last 24 pages and think you are all doing fantastically well!!

Have been keeping up with the cleaning but outside of cupboards only - not in!!! (what you can't see doesn't hurt you)

Having seen how well you are all doing please may I join? It is so motivating.

I'm not going to count what goes out but just get it gone!!

My plan is to do a small room a day - e.g. bathroom today which I know isn't bad and then work up to a room a week such as our bedroom and the garage and loft well they may take a month each:o!!!

Also have lots of papers and personal stuff that I am keeping for sentimental reasons - they all need organising better as well as all our photos!

Think I'll be busy all year at this rate!

3 items all packed and ready to go in the am. :j

Going to tackle the bedroom this afternoon as hubby is out until late so a late supper tonight which means time to get things sorted before he gets in!

I have a massive bag of charity stuff already though - probably going to add to it today too.

Question for all you experienced sorter-outers. What do you do with all the 'little bits' that inevitably congregate in places. For example - the man drawer is full of small tools, memory cards and keys for things. I don't have a lot of space but the bottom of the drawer ends up dangerous to fingers! lol Also, my children seem to accumulate small toys, bouncy balls and other such items that don't belong with anything but get lost at the bottom of the toy box again causing a hazard.

What are your suggestions?! TIA xx

Just delurking to say aimeemum, I use small containers in drawers to keep stuff in some sort of order. I use small plastic boxes (take-away size) in my kitchen 'odds' drawer and a large shoe box in the middle of my sock drawer - it divides the drawer into 3 compartments and I keep all my trainer socks in the box. DS has instructions to save all his empty shoe and boot boxes for me, they're much bigger than mine! :D

Sometimes I feel like I've been decluttering for ever, but I'm pleased to say that my list of places to declutter is now shorter than my list of places decluttered! I've kept a rough list of what I've thrown out/freecycled/taken to CS and its cheering to look back and realise how much I've done.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    Hi Swampmonster

    Thanks for expressing an interest.

The best thing is probably to contact them direct to find out the latest situation and the only contact details I have that I can share would be their facebook group. I have friends who've been doing local pick ups and taking them to drop off points as we're within half an hour of Burrowbridge, so I've only been working through them.

To be honest though, it looks like that latest is that they've asked for donations of goods and food to be put on hold, although on the local radio this morning they were putting out pleas for things like waders. I'm sure someone on that page would be able to provide a current update. :)
