I had a spurt of energy and totally cleared everything out of the bathroom, cleaned and then only put back what is used.

I got rid of a whole bin bag of stuff, couldn't quite believe I had so much old bits in there. I hope I can keep this up

Was very busy yesterday, cleaning, tidying and decluttering, and got rid of:-

    jacket CS
    t-shirt CS
    3 small toys - CS
    2 tatty handbags - bin
    2 phone covers - CS
pack of OOD chewing gum (belonged to DS who left home nearly 5 years ago, lol!)
pair of tatty jogging bottoms, holey socks, torn tea towel, tatty pair of pyjamas - textile recycling
    Christmas cards - RC
postage packaging from pressies - bin
    plastic packaging - bin
4 tatty emery boards - bin
5 bottles of perfume that I don't use - CS
    2 dress rings - CS
    pomander - CS
2 non working pens - bin
    2 old calendars - RC
    pile of paperwork - shredded/recycled

I also found a manicure set, which was still in the packaging I bought it in, and a case which used to contain another manicure set, so I put the items from the packaging into the case and put the packaging in the bin.

Okay, another decluttering question from me....a lot of my clutter is in the form of boxes for delicate electrical goods, should I need to transport them elsewhere (like a new home). Is this a good enough reason to hang on to them?

Also, how do I get rid of dead electricals? I can't help but think all that metal (or the plugs, at least) could be recycled somehow but am not going to the trouble of visiting my local tip.

And am I the only one who can't bear to get rid of journals, even though I know the content is fully available online? Tacking these 3 things would free up a great deal of space.

I always take small electrical appliances cables etc to our local PC World/Currys-they accept them for recycling.

Am trying to use everything up. I have 4 (count 'em!) part used 500ml bottles of moisturiser in my bathroom, plus a couple of 200ml tubs on my dressing table. And 3 different facemasks in use. Not sure how I have become so wasteful! :o

Also not sure about ditching stuff I haven't worn for ages. Today it was mild for January and I wore a dress I haven't used for 4 years - along with a velvet slip I haven't worn for at least 8! So I'm trying to get better utility out of my stuff. But it does feel great to do some shredding, better get some done :D

ooooh vfm4meplse - did you have to remind me that I should be going through toiletries/face stuff/make-up/perfumes etc. Now that you've put the thought in my head, I can't ignore them all any longer :(.

I know that there's a few unopened bottles of 'items that I don't use'. Somebody bought me Nivea products for a couple of years on the run, and it's something that I just don't use as I find them 'too greasy feeling for my skin' - might dig those out to start off with, as I'm on a Charity Shop shift this afternoon ..................

I need to resist the temptation to bring anything back with me though ......... no point in clearing stuff out, only to bring even more back in :rotfl:.

Off to an excellent start this morning! Deciding what to wear today found 4 pairs of trousers which I know I will no longer wear so into the CS bag. Also found a bottle of ancient eyedrops so they have been binned.

Have looked out a huge file relating to my mother's affairs which can be shredded - this is now in a prominent place near the shredder and will be dealt with later today!

    Feeling inspired! :j
  • I went through about 10 big boxes that haven't been unpacked since we moved last year. I'd say a good 95% of it went either in the trash or in the charity shop pile.

The more I get rid of, the better I feel. If I can keep going at this rate, our house will be clean and clutter free by the end of Jan. We have lived in squalor (my fault) for nearly 15 years. The thought of it all being a thing of the past is amazing! :T

Just a little tip for all the face moisturizes collectors here, I have a few also so I've been using my favourite as it should be.. and the one that I like the least, I use as a foot cream before bed every night, to use it up!

Anyway I've thrown / recycled / put in bag ready fro CS - lots of empties from the bathroom, tights, holey slippers, kids shoes that are too small, kids clothes that are too small.

Next thing to tackle is the paperwork and my vast collection of oven dishes, I use to only have 2 but my MIL kept buying them from the CS for me as she said she knew I liked them (which was news to me)... I have about 7 or 8 now (and this has been in the last 6 months only).. I also need to go through our vinyl collection, both me and OH inheritated a few peoples collections and I told him this morning we going through them and getting rid of the ones we will never play, TBH I would get rid of the lot but some you can't find digital copies of, so I said what we keep has to fit into the record player unit storage part, we have an extra 2 or 3 boxes ATM

Looks like everyone has been really busy.

I've been moving things around. I've tidied a lot of cupboards so things are stored smarter, and I've freed up a lot of space.

As I am hoping to take early retirement next year, I'm intending to take advantage of offers on non perishable goods, and buy them now, to use after retirement, so I needed more storage space to put these things.

But rest assured, this is not going to be a hoard or a stash - this is a carefully planned early retirement strategy. I have to keep repeating this to myself, LOL

But, I have de-cluttered some things too

    12 Old diary – recycling
13 Old Christmas cards – recycling
    14 LP’s 2 – eBay
15 National Trust binoculars – eBay
16 Broken alarm clock – bin
17 Old apple oil – bin
    18 Superman socks – eBay
19 Old towels and sheets – clothing recycling
20 Per Una Skirt – eBay
21 Old Hoover – electrical recycling

I've also got a pile of DVD's to put on eBay. We hardly ever buy DVD's anymore, as we watch them once, and then they go in the cupboard. We now wait for the films to go onto Sky.

I started eBaying in 2009, and the first thing I sold was DVD's. For nearly 5 years now, none of the DVD's that I kept have been looked at, so I think it's safe for another batch to go.
