It's easier to say sorry than get permission. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

First of all WELCOME HOME.:DRecommendations would be appreciated please.
Have you thought of trying any of the Sarpo range that are resistant to blight. I'm pretty sure one of them is resistant to slug damage too.
It seems so much milder than last year that I think I should be starting a few things. Is it time for parsnips yet?
The big ones I grew last year were sown in the holes on April 6th. As quoted in post 229 on this thread but you were still AWOL.
Lost a few fence panels in the winds, and my greenhouse door fell out onto a nail and popped a hole in the plastic panel. Nothing I can't fix with a bit of gaffer tape but annoying.
I lost 5 but they were getting a bit old and dilapidated like me. :eek:0 -
In just in time before a big hail storm, somewhat colder out there than recent weeks!! Managed to get another area dug over, weeded the existing cold frame, top dressed the fushia that is in it and split/replanted the strawberry plants that were in it ~ not ours and never grown them before, so a bit of "make it up as you go along" and see what happens!! also weeded some of the owner's garden and planted out some things as way of saying thank you for letting us use her veg garden area.
Seedlings in our attic are romping away, it is cold up there but maybe still too warm for them, will have to keep an eye on them. Potatoes look ready to get in but will give it another week or two, esp with the weather we are currently having0 -
My potatoes have finally started to grow taller so will need the soil raising in the next couple of days. French beans and peas starting to come through but have covered up this evening as they have predicted -3 for us this evening so hope everything survives. I covered them up mid afternoon so the sun has had time to warm the soil a little but they are in the greenhouse so shouldn't be too bad.
Really enjoying seeing my seedlings coming on and hopefully we will be able to clear the spare room out so I can put more seedlings in there to start them off.0 -

That made me laugh so much, when DH is at work I may well have to get someone in to sort it for me (damn M.E won't let me do much!) :mad:0 -

Just back from a long weekend away and can't believe that the potatoes, which I planted last Wednesday, are showing through the soil already. Both rhubarb crowns are well above their planters now, and the courgette is showing through so hopefully it'll be a productive year.0

Well the tomato plants which were leggy and I potted on have some varied fortunes. One lot has survived with the other lot fading away.
Only trouble is....despite putting a label next to them (my husband moves things!) there is no way of knowing if the ones that are hanging on are cherry tomatoes or ordinary ones. Hmmm will have to wait and see how that one pans out.
Baby sweetcorn sprouting though and courgettes.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
So garden-wall-man (let's call him Kev) came, stood in the road with OH (let's call him Dave) and a coffee, and said hmmmmm a lot.
The upshot is that I now have a 'wonderful opportunity' to dig it all up, shove a load of better soil down, and start again. As a result, I have questions:
1. Will someone come and do it for me please?
2. How on earth can I save plants that are already growing - like my peonies and Bruce the Forsythia?
3. What's the cheapest way of getting soil, or at least something to make what I have better?
4. ugh
5. If I consume gin while doing it, will I enjoy it more?

Gin with a straw is best! :T
To save your plants, get a massive container - or a wheelbarrow will do - and put compost in, add plants and leave in a protected place. I have also seen where the plants are "stored" in water.....
Put an advert on freecycle for topsoil - someone is always giving it away free.
Drink more gin! :TSaving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal
