Tallgirl, what is the variety of the furry plants in the last photo? :) l:

I didn't quite get it at first they are Maine Coone, Thomas and a Jack names after golfers. Big ears and lovely personalities. Sorry to hear about your move perhaps you could plant things into smaller containers to start with and then when you do move put them into big one.

I agree it will be quite heavy to move things around so perhaps you just have to start again in your new place. To be honest when space is limited its important to sow little and often or you end up with loads ready at the same time. The growing season is quite long.

Lovely to hear how everyone is getting started. I believe parsnips takes quite a long time I planted my broad bean seeds three weeks ago and they are only just coming up or the first one in. Brand new seeds too but I want strong healthy roots not leggy plants so don't mind.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well this weekend I finally got past the 'thinking about growing some veg' stage and got out in the garden to do something...I planted up a herb planter which looks lovely on the patio, and I've put in my onion sets (3 varieties), spring onions and carrots.

I still haven't managed to pick a spot to put my raspberry canes or rhubarb and I'm beginning to think it'll be too late by the time I get them sorted. I'd really like to put the raspberries along the border with our neighbours but they're in the process of replacing the fence on that side so it's not a great time to start planing there. The fence is going up quite slowly (1 panel done over the weekend and the spot I like for my raspberries is about 10 panels away) so I don't think I can wait until it is done. I'm wondering about putting them in pots for this season and then planting them out properly next year.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • Not sure where you live, but I know parsnips are notorious for being slow to germinate, so I wouldn't worry too much just yet, even with the sun it will take a while for the soil to warm up.

The clearing of our plot continues....it is getting harder as reaching the bits that have not been cultivated for some time, so a lot of root. Managed to get some early peas in under fleece and changed my mind where to plant the potatoes that are nicely chitting in our attic ~ going to try the areas that haven't been cultivated for a while to try and help break up the soil a bit....going to use the looser soil for some root crops instead.

Re-secured the post/mesh frame that has previously been for the sweet peas, which was much needed. Luckily this plot has so much handy pieces of wood/mesh netting/wire hopped supports that does help.

Sweetpeas, tomatoes and leeks have all germinated indoors, so will move them to slightly cooler room to continue their growth. all coming on nicely and good to read how others getting on too
  • Nice pics Tall Girl!! Jealous of your greenhouse. Not enough room to swing a cat in mine.

Well what with traumas over non paying tenants and all the hassle that has gone with that my seedlings have been ignored.

The cherry toms and gardeners delight I sowed have gone far too leggy and although they havent got next set of leaves, I have just put them into some fresh pots and buried them up to leaves. Don't know if they will survive but I can always get some plants from car boot if not. Will keep informed.

My sweet peas have just started sprouting so at least somethings working. Wish I had done them back in November though as the one year I started them then was the best sweet peas I have ever had!

Just planted some mange tout and courgettes. Really in the mood to get back into it now but got to go out.

    Happy gardening everyone :D

My laziness is paying off - we have snow forecast this weekend, so if I'd have planted anything it would have been a waste!
  • I like your thinking vic lol. Things catch up quickly anyway.

Anything I have done is in greenhouse or in sons bedroom.

Went on yesterday to sow sweetcorn. Cauli, basil, wild strawberries, corriander and some baby sweetcorn I bought last year but never used. First time for baby corns and not sure if they grow like ordinary sweetcorn..? Im assuming so?

Oh my goodness me.....I believe there has been an error in the packaging of my green beans......I am sure they must, at the rate they are growing, in actual fact be triffids!! They desperately need planting into their proper homes but it is still quite cool here...what do I do??? The dwarf one have massive leaves on as well. My mum was great at green beans so perhaps I shall be as lucky. Courgettes are almost lifting the lid off the propagator.

    I'm sooooooo happpppy ...
Looking forward to picking up my greenhouse at the weekend.
Was advertised on PreLoved 'FREE OF CHARGE' ... 8' x 6' .... just needs a couple of panes of glass for the door, so I believe.

Salad leaves and basil starting to shoot .... will be sowing courgettes and cucumbers today ... and then time to destroy part of the garden for the greenhouse.

Can't wait to hide away in my little sun room :-)

Oh help Little Vics, I'm visiting West Yorks at the moment and am sitting in a patch of beautiful sunshine. Moving on to see folks in Blackpool tomorrow for the weekend so I hope it's not going to hem us in!

Before I left home I didn't have a lot to do as it's still very wet and boggy in my north east facing garden but I thinned out the strawberries once more and kept the healthiest looking ones, planted another lot of potatoes and one courgette plant - I learned my lesson a few years ago, was inundated with the things after planting 4 and couldn't even give them away in the end! I also seeded the lawn as the dog won't be on it for a week, hoping that's long enough for the new grass to take hold :)
