I have been a BT customer since 1965, although I have only had BT Broadband for three years.

I have seen the service from BT go from good, when you rang to report a fault on your phone you spoke to someone in your local exchange, to the current appalling practices which masquerade as Customer Services, when for any small enquiry you finish up talking to someone in India who is very difficult to understand.

The latest round of price increases, including charges for Caller Display, line rental and call charges, have resolved me to leave the company. Unfortunately, I took out a new 12 month contract in July to get free BT Sport, so will have to wait until then to leave.

BT Sport has been a big disappointment. All I watch is one Premier League match a week, and have never even watched BT Sport 2 or ESPN. As far as I'm concerned the content is total cr*p. I'll just have to forgo Champions League football in the future. I cannot help but feel that the throwing of money at Football is a desperate move to buy a following at the expense of the average customer. Only by telling BT to stick their channels where the sun doesn't shine will common sense return. All I can see happening is the raising of fees to Sky which in turn will cost me even more to have their sports channels.

Comparing their Broadband prices with others show they are massively overpriced, and the forum reviews show intense dis-satisfaction for BT Vision.

It will be Sky or Talk-Talk who will be getting my custom come the summer. I just have this feeling that in a few years time, BT as we now know it will not exist, as their offerings are over priced and under resourced, and if someone like me, a customer for almost 50 years, calls it a day, what hope can there be?

    He mislead you.

LRS does not include caller display.

There was a recent offer if signing up for 12 months with LRS, that will include bt privicy and caller display free for 12 months.

I had the mysterious line rental charges of 3.70 added to my bill too....or rather credited, debited, credited, debited....thoroughly screwed up.

It took about 30 mins for the BT rep to finally grasp that they'd added line rental charges, even though my line saver runs until May. I have been promised a refund, so shall keep a close eye on my bank account / BT account, as the also promised e-mail detailing all of that in writing, hasn't surfaced.

    Think you are mistaken.

There was no offer to get caller display free by doing LRS.

You had to commit to a further 12 months contract from 4/1/14. LRS didn't come into it. (You got it free by signing up for a further 12 months, orrespective of how you pay your line rental)

No use for gardner1 who started his LRS last June!

    That one is correct.

    That one is wrong.

I had a long email "conversation" with the UK staff last September when it became clear that Caller ID was going to be chargeable. I was being told that if I renewed my LRS in October that I would be free to leave the following October - ie 2014. In January all I had to do was say I wanted free Caller ID and then in October 2014, when my LRS was up I could leave if I wanted to.

I then replied with the T&C for free Caller ID and said that this would tie me into a contract till January 2015. I was told it wouldn't and that I just had to cancel Caller ID and there would be no charge. I even asked her again and again she told me that.

Knowing this was wrong I escalated it to the CEO. The reply from the Executive Office complaints team, was that I was correct and what I was being told was wrong. He apologised and said that feedback would go back to the CS advisor's manager.

I chose to leave in November.

I have these 1571 charges on my January bill - with definitely NO pre warning from BT. I had however read the advice on the Money saver newsletter and TRIED to cancel the 1571 and caller display online - clearly to no effect.
I could bore all with the trouble I had when calling to resolve this - needless to say several phone calls later, ages spend in the depths of automated systems and two useless live people later I am no nearer a solution. The first one "could not" help with bills because I had apparently selected "ordering a new service", and the billing person first of all took it that I wanted to cancel my (12 month) contract early. And after that was explained still would not agree to cancel the 1571 from that point on, even leaving out the payment on the current bill. Further than that, the fact I hadn't been informed was questioned.
Apparently I am waiting on a call from a "resolutions team".
A poor show all round and one that does not endear me to BT - an official complaint will be going in.
BT is a terrible company to deal with, seemingly feeling that they are unaccountable.

I have, of course, not had any type of contact to resolve this either to refund the current charges OR to cancel going forward. I have written to them using the web form. If i get an automated reply I will treat this accordingly.
Been with BT for over 30 years - not for much longer!

  • It was sneaky and sly of them. I found it in the price increase email, though I didn't notice it at the time - I have no doubt whatsoever that they intended people not to notice. It's no wonder they're so poorly thought of.

I really wish they'd start bothering about this sort of thing. Because the service itself is really dependable and good value. And an email to their customer services did get me an apology and refund of the extra charges. It's just that it's certain that something like this will happen again with BT in due course. And not by accident, either.
  • I went mental with BT yesterday when I noticed they had popped on an extra £3 a month HD package for their "Free" BT Sport package, never mentioned at the time when it was offered.
I have told them to stick their HD package where the trolls live in the chocolate cave, AND demanded that they refund any charges that they never had permission from me to charge. Complete theiving !!!!!!.
