  • So I seem to have found some of my MSE fight again! I've listed 14 items on ebay, 1 with a bid already, have started filling in my hubbys PPI claim form for him and have done a quick rejig / update of our finances.

So my updates are as follows:
    • DD has dropped an activity so that will save £60 per month
    • I've dropped my ironing lady (hangs head in shame at having one) so that will save £20 per week
    • childcare is slightly less per week now the kiddies are back to school, so that will save £12 per week
    • Phoned about my student loan and it has been overpaid, so have to send in my payslips after my September pay and they will refund what I've overpaid.

Hopefully this will all help make some inroads into the debt!

Will be trying to have an MSE weekend and see if I can list a few more bits on ebay.

Hope everyone has a good weekend,

  • Ooooh where has my motivation gone :(:( Feeling totally demotivated with everything right now, its miserable!!

Have paid the basics this month, but it still doesn't feel like we're getting anywhere. I really need to give myself a shake and get on with it and get busting.

I seem to be busy and not very organised which isn't helping, so maybe I need to get myself organised again over the weekend and then I'll get my mojo back.

    Here's hoping anyway!.....

  • Right! I'm back! Hopefully with my motivation in tow!!

I've written lots of lists and have lots of money "jobs" to do tonight online. Will pop back later and update my progress once I have actually made some, but really need to get back into my diary as its what keeps me focused.

    I WILL do this!!

    Hi Diaryland,

So I'm creeping back in after a lazy while, but now determined to make a dent in this debt and get it as close to £10k as I can by the end of the year.

Our mortgage was up for renewal so that was the first thing to sort, have managed to get a lower rate for 2 years fixed, by then we will hopefully be on the move.

My mobile contract ran out, so instead of taking a new phone I'm keeping my handset and have gone for a sim only deal. Its £17 per month but thats 750mb data, unlimited texts and 1200 minutes so I should never go over that. My current contract was £36 a month, so thats a saving of £19, plus there's £40 cashback tracked on quidco for the new sim.

Have written to the student loans company about my refund, as I've overpaid that so will get the letter posted off tomorrow along with my payslips since April and then we'll see how much I am owe.

Posted 3 ebay items today that I had sold on ebay so even though it was only £7.66 in total, it was better in my pocket than not!

Anyway, not feeling too great so off to have an early night and hopefully will feel better tomorrow.

    Back soon!

    Hi OF and Crunchy!

OF I'm glad we're both back, and have found out motivation! I'm excited for your debt free date, I don't think I have had an MSE buddy who has reached debt freedom yet, you'll be my first! :j

Thanks for taking the time to read through the diary crunchy, I'm sure its rather boring in parts! Glad it has helped to inspire you though, its all good if we're helping each other!!

So I have been playing around with numbers and need to get myself properly back on track so I know where I am. The likelihood of being at £10k or below by year end is slim, so I am thinking it will be more like £12k-ish. I can handle that, and I have to be realistic, as nice as it would be to get it down below ten thousand for the new year.

My plan is to aim to pay off £888 per month from October to June. This should bring the total to around £6500. From June I shouldn't have childcare costs which should mean that I am able to pay £1200 / £1300 a month from my pay, so we should be looking at debt freedom roughly around 1 year from now.

I'm going to give it my all, and I realise that its not an easy time of year with Christmas coming up, but I've got to give it a shot otherwise I will sit on my lazy bottom and not do anything!

I will do a mini-signature at the end of my posts for each month to try and keep me on track. Hopefully there will be the odd month that I will be able to pay more than the £888 but we'll see. I'm going to start with that for now and if its more great, if its a little bit less, well hopefully more successful months will make up for that!!

    So without further ado:

    £34 of £888 for October

I get paid at the end of the month so it will look like I haven't paid anything until the last week of the month!

  • Thought a to do list might help keep me focused so for October:
    • List on ebay things from DD's wardrobe clear out
    • Clear out DS's room and get rid of baby toys on ebay
    • Sell Games Console that no one uses
    • Do a car boot sale
    • Check Quidco for any cashback
    • Remember and check bank account daily pay any excess off
I will perhaps pop back and post more on my list as the month progresses!
