Summer holidays - are you planning one for 2014?

We might be going to a music festival in Budapest for the week in August (all-in cost for the week including nice hotel to stay in and a much superior festival- same as 3 day T in the Park here!) and we also fancy 2 weeks in Orlando towards the end of the year- would be our first time in the US.
All depends though as OH is a mature student and graduating (hopefully!) in July so it all depends on what kind of job he manages to secure (if at all!
), when it starts and how much holidays he will accrue before the end of the year. We're intentionally not booking anything so he can be flexible with potential employers. It's frustrating me as I live for my travels and planning time away and last year was jammy enough to have lots of trips- 2 competition wins (couple of nights in Dublin and a weeks luxury cruise round the Med that would have never have done ourselves!) as well as a trip to Alton Towers and our 10 year anniversary fortnight in Canada. Having to work to get into the mindset that last year was a flukey exception rather than a lifestyle to which I have become accustomed!!

Love this thread! We actually booked our 2014 holiday in September, before we'd had our 2013 holiday! We're doing an Adriatic cruise from Venice. We fly out 5 days after my 50th birthday and we got deals with half price flights and free drinks package so worked out perfectly for us0

We just booked our flights to Thailand for July. Going for a month with our two young daughters to explore the country.
Can't wait to show them that there are countries with slightly more sunshine then a week a year. ;-)
We are also just starting our plans for summer 2015. It's my 40's BD, and we decided to go with the Kids to Florida instead of having a Party etc. Will show the kids Disney, drive down to Miami and Key West and then take a Caribbean Cruise from Miami for a week.0 -
Four weeks in the Caribbean (3 in Barbados, 1 Antigua)- booked and paid for and much needed. We haven't had a holiday for five years. Was planning to go the Cuba but then discovered I was expecting DS1 and have been pregnant, giving birth or lactating almost non-stop ever since.
(sincere apologies to anyone who happens to be on the same flight as me and my three preschoolers!)0 -
Any info on that would be very useful as I was just thinking we would do the ship's excursions there. We never do that, but the visa issues seemed to be hard to sort out.
I did Baltics with P&O in end May 13, it was lovely everywhere.
We did our own thing in every port, took the P&O coach into the town and then either got a train somewhere (like in zebrugge for bruge) or just walked round (tallin/Stockholm/copenhagen)
St Petersberg, we did a 2 day grand tour, run by Alla tours which was $300 each (plus tips) for 2 days of being in a small group of 15, visiting everywhere you can think of - all entrance fees, lunch, commentary included. It was fantastic but tiring. If we did it via P&O it would have cost around £240 for 2 days for seeing say 3-4 things max in a group of 60 or so.
I used the cruisecritic forums ALOT, to research every port and get great walking tour plans.
My plans for this year - Butlins for a weekend music break. Then another cruise later in the year, maybe Norway this time for 7 days.0 -
Yeah, booked a week at a spa resort, and hot tub in Devon for July, and then a lodge holiday near Exmoor for early September.
We were really lucky with the weather last year, and hope it's the same this year.
We can't really go abroad (disability and health insurance issues), so we like those Hoseasons Autograph places because they are so nice.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Off to Thailand later this month for 11 nights, not been before and looking forward to it! We were due to go to the Maldives at the end of April for 10 nights but have postponed as we are now moving mid Feb and need to get that out of the way, may possibly switch to doing a Sri Lanka/Maldives twin centre or just Mexico in May or maybe June.
Then Egypt in Sept for 10 nights, we did Egypt twice last year and were impressed with the value for money both times, especially for someone as obsessed with coral reefs as I am.
A few years ago I was struggling to make ends meet on a DMP so now I am debt free I live to travel
We went to Thailand for our honeymoon last year - where are you going?0 -

We did that cruise last year, it was great.0 -
We weren't going to go away this year because we've spent an absolute fortune on home renovations, but we're now reconsidering because hubby has been off work since november after a knee replacement and is going stir-crazy being indoors all the time.
We're thinking of Crete - any suggestions for a good resort? I don't know anything about it other than that it's a Greek island. I don't want to go to a teeny-bopper party-paradise, but do want a good beach and a good range of sea-front restaurants with a shortish airport transfer time. We'll probably take one of the First-Choice all-inclusive options but we want to be able to dine out as well when the mood takes us.
*Next* year I want to do this cruise:

Elounda in Crete is gorgeous and just across from Spinalonga which is quite enlightening, but long transfer time
Hotel Nana Beach is fantastic in Hersonissos0
