Summer holidays - are you planning one for 2014?

Hi all,

This time of year, peoples thoughts are turning to booking their summer holidays, if lucky enough to be able to afford one.

We haven't been away for four years as have been saving for a house deposit - we have just managed to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, and we are on track to reach our goal in the first quarter of 2014. We have decided to treat ourselves to a little mini break within the UK, probably Cornwall, we LOVE Cornwall area - late summer. Which we are very excited about

Is anyone else planning / booked a holiday this year?

We've booked five days away in a log cabin with hot tub in the countryside around the Dumfries area.
Went last year for honeymoon and it was lovely - our fist experience of self catering (we usually just go to b and bs for a weekend break) and it suited us down to the ground...lovely to be able to kick back and relax, get up and cook breakfast as and when you want and be able to chill out without worrying about getting dressed/going down for breakfast at a set time.

Really looking forward to it - we always try and book something this time of year because it gives us something to look forward to for the new year!

Oooh, I love the West Country. Good choice :) We're planning on a driving holiday: we live in France, so planning to drive out of France into Switzerland so hubby can visit the watch museum (and I'm sure I'll find a chocolate museum of some kind :D ). Shan't be staying there long though as Switzerland is expensive :p Will then drive out of Switzerland down into northern Italy and stay for about a week hopefully. Ideally in an agiturismo type place. Then back into France from northern Italy and across to my husband's parents' place (they live in the south of France, about an hour's drive from Alès) for 1 or 2 weeks before driving back home. Good times :)

Annual holiday at Haven Devon Cliffs again this year, but going for 2 weeks this time and a friend is joining us (in another caravan) for 4 nights.

If things go to plan there's a possibility of something else too but we'll see!

We go away with my parents every year as they have a timeshare, it just costs us flights and food when we're there.

It's in a stunning hotel in Madeira, beautiful place.

EDIT: We're going to have a week in a cottage in Shropshire in August. Luxury place with hot tub etc - going to meet up for the first time with longterm friends from the internet. I've got a hideous year ahead of me workwise so I need something to look forward to. We haven't had a holiday together since 2006 because DH is a teacher and I can never get time off during school holidays, so I've arranged it early this year.

Going to Vegas in 4 months, has been booked for ages and I cannot wait.
Once that is over we will probably start looking at something in the autumn.. something cheap and cheerful, but most definitely abroad. Perhaps europe, something self catering in a small village somewhere in Italy, Spain or France.. just somewhere we've never been before, as we love discovering new food, places and customs..

10 days in Italy for us, in a small non-tourist town near lake Como, ahhh can't wait.

I'm really looking forward to this holiday, our eldest two aren't coming this year, they're off doing their own thing, so it will be the first holiday we will have had in a long time without having to cater for the interests of children with a 6 year age gap.

Lovely, that was where we stayed two years ago. Which town?
