Why not use the self service checkout?

You'll get a receipt every time, without having to ask for it.

Or indeed speak to anybody, which I have a feeling would be welcomed by all parties concerned.

A lot of condescending people on this thread, not least the OP Anyway i just ask for a vat receipt and never have had a problem.
And the address supplied; would the head office in Cheshunt be better? Surely policies and training is set company wide rather than locally?

you quoted Tesco, not Tesco express!!

and Tesco has a bank instore thus a teller.

The op says they went to a Tesco Express.

Even if a Tesco has a bank in it the actual employees for the grocery part of the store will be normal cashiers, not tellers as they don't work for the bank part!

Again you'd only find a teller in a bank, not in Tesco!

A Tesco or Tesco Express could have 10 banks in it but if you are buying groceries the person who serves you is not called a teller!

well they are a teller as they tell you how much your goods cost.
and they don't serve you as its a self service store, they just tell you how much you ought to pay thus a teller, the cashiers work in high street banks as it says over their counter, cashier not teller.

    you have things wrong

    how many times, now.

we need a teller to add it up, and tell us.

No I am correct. Go and look up the definition if you don't believe me! All you're doing now is scraping the barrel.

Note that cashier in a supermarket is not listed!!
strange that it not being listed, I wonder why!!
    because there a teller.

in the bank is a speaker that when the cashier is free says " cashier number 3 please" ect, not teller. see if you can find the legal definition, when you don't post back then we'll know why
