Another funny question from me! ! Does anyone use short sleeve vests? I don't get it. I've always put lo in long ones but I've been out this morning for a new pack as I needed bigger ones and I thought since it may get warmer I should buy some short sleeves but then I thought if it's really hot would he even need a vest? And if it's cool he'll wear long sleeve and if it's mid weather I usually put a long sleeve under a tshirt. So really are short sleeves necessary? I mean they cost nothing really so it doesn't matter but I just wondered what does everyone else do?

I always use short sleeves/sleeveless as my house is quite warm, I just see it as a bit of an extra layer to keep the chill away. The short sleeve vests are really handy once the weather gets warmer as in the house you can just leave baby kicking about in one, saves on the washing and ironing ;).

Just popped on to see if Claire and Becca had given birth yet as they are the only ones on that thread that I recognise. I guess they'd be on this thread.

A bit of news from me. Found I was pregnant again 5 weeks ago.....
Sadly, it turned out to be ectopic so I'm just sort of recovering from that at the moment. I managed to avoid surgery and got away with only needing a double dose of methotrexate so hopefully it won't have done much damage. That aside, Clover and I are both doing well.

Just a look at your pics MV - your DD is lovely :)

I will try and pop in a little more regularly from now on :)

Sorry to hear your news lilymay. Look after yourself. I'd have to double check but I don't think they've had babies yet. Have a look on the pg thread.

Can I just ask following on from veggie thing. Did you ever give your lo follow on milk? I'm reading conflicting things but some sites have suggested it's good for non meat eaters because it's iron rich. Plus let me be honest. .. Id earn advantage card points if I bought that over first milk once he hits 6 months!!

There's a lot of iron in formula but it's not necessarily that easy to digest in that form so they have to jack it full of the stuff. The follow on milk is hardly different from first stage but the formula companies came up with it because they can't legally advertise or offer incentives (like the points) on anything for babies under 6 months in this country.

I've seen people saying that their babies didn't take to the follow on milk anyway, but you can always try it and see. If not and you are worried that there isn't enough iron in the diet generally then you can get drops. Meat is not the only source of iron - in fact some veg sources are easier to digest anyway.

Metranil - that's a gorgeous picture of your lo! I can't remember sleep right now (got a 3 week old!) but from memory my 2 year old didn't sleep through at that age and was a bit random on naps too. The main problem is all babies are different so they do whatever works for them. It could be a growth or development spurt if she is all of a sudden not sleeping as well, in which case hopefully things will improve soon.

Thanks for this.. its really useful. The hv says no need for follow on so I wasn't going to but then a couple of popular mum sites said it was a good idea for veggie babies. I've been veggie about 23 years and I've managed to get plenty of iron in (aside from after birth when I lost a litre of blood) so I'm sure lo will. When I was first preg mw was shocked at his high my iron was so I must do something right and lo would only be having what i eat later down line so I guess it's not a major worry. I guess I'm just really nervy about weaning in general in case lo is deficient or overweight. He's not likely to be under since he looks more like a 9 month old at 5 months! Amus Thanks for vest advice. I bought tons of short sleeve when pregnant that he never ever wore plus I was given some and even friends who had their babies in the depth of winter gave me short sleeves. A lady at baby massage doesn't use them at all! Which I'm not criticising as her baby is always in a pram suit but it always seems weird that he's bare under his clothes! Did anyone know the reason the shoulders on vests are like they are is so you can pull them down the body (if baby poos on himself for example) as well as over head or am I the only one who's just learned that! !!

Haha nope after 3 babies I actually didn't know that! I end up just pulling them over her head so poo ends up all up her back and in her hair, obviously at this point the only option is a bath!! Luckily she doesn't do explosive nappies too frequently.

I've been through 2 pregnancies with no iron problems either, but it does seem to worry the midwives when you say you are veggie!

My mum (a meat eater who happily dealt with both kids becoming veggie in their teens) once told me I would probably crave meat for the iron if I ever had a baby. So glad that didn't happen!

I did know that about the vests but I learned it on here.
