Thank you lazywife; I am loving my family of four. We have had a wonderful two weeks whilst OH has been on pat leave; sadly he has to go back to work on Tuesday... and I am quite terrified of having both A and E all on my own on Wednesday. (A goes to nursery on Tuesday).

A LOVES her little bro; she constantly wants to cuddle him and kiss him. We had a a few days of being really otherwise and throwing her toys everywhere, not tidying up after herself but she seems (touch wood!) to be back to her usual self now.

E is thus far a really chilled out baby - he lets me put him down between feeds which I am totally not used to as A would last 30s if I put her down before a screaming meltdown.

With regards expressing, some women are not able to express as cannot simulate a let down for the pump. Expressing is no indicator of supply whatsoever which many women sadly don't realise.

Hope everyone else is well x

Wow, time is going quickly - my little man is almost 7 weeks old now! I'm fully recovered and as have been back driving this week have done a few outings on my own with both my children - some for appts and others for fun. I'm pleased to say all outings went well even a wander around to feed the ducks.

A is still LOVING her brother and we've settled into a good pattern at home. She still wants to cuddle him and kiss him regularly and so gets to hold him on her lap whilst I get dressed in the mornings and again in the afternoon always requests a hold. She understands when I need to feed him and will either bring a game/book we can play/read together or go and play a game/build her jigsaws on her own.

E is getting more interesting now. It sounds terrible, but even I found him quite uninteresting to start with - amazing yes - but all he did was sleep, feed and repeat! Now he is smiling and has lengthy awake periods each day. He's also managed to roll himself from his tummy onto his back a number of times though at not yet 7 weeks I count that more as fluke based on how I positioned him for tummy time than actual ability!

I have found the change from 1 - 2 so much easier than it was going from 0 - 1. I think I am also far more relaxed this time round which most likely is contributing.

Hope that everyone is ok x
  • Thought I would pop in, my DD is 8weeks now and time has just flew. Saf, I'm the same it has def been easier this time as I have known what to expect but I really struggled the first few weeks with adapting to looking after a newbie and a toddler and surviving on little sleep. Now that DD is sleeping better at night I'm feeling like I can juggle things better. She has her first jabs yesterday and I forgot how awful it was.

We have also started to potty train ds which has been hit and miss! He is peeing on the potty but not getting his pants down, I keep missing him doing this as I'm seeing to DD or in the kitchen or something! I've been putting a pull up on when we go out as he isn't saying when he has to go. And when i set him on the potty or ask him if he has to go he says no. He is at nursery 3days next week so will see what they say about sending him in pants as there won't be a potty there like home! Finding it a tad stressful, any advise or suggestions welcome!

Hi saf and minimuffin, congrats on new babies and glad everything is going well for you both. Ds2 is now 4 months old and he's fit in really well.

Minimuffin - we've been potty training this week, ds1 turned 3 last month and we've tried a few times to potty train without success but this time he has just gotten it straight away and apart from one accident since day one he's doing brill. I think it's all about timing. You can either battle through it and hope one day it clicks or wait another month and try again. You have so much going on already don't stress yourself if it doesn't happen.

It's a big thing for them to know how it feels when they need to go and then telling you and manuvuring pants as well. You could try putting him on every 30 minutes and hoping to catch it when he's on but speaking from my experience it's a lot easier when they can tell you they need to go .

We're still waiting on our appt for the jabs but DS is 7 weeks today. As he's my last baby, in some ways I am sad but in other ways am looking forward to him being bigger and better able to interact with DD as she just loves him so much.

Minimuffin, is DS ready for potty training if he doesn't tell you he needs to go or denies needing to go? If it is hit and miss because he's struggling to get his pants down, how about a few days pants free at home? When I potty trained DD nursery continued with what I was doing at home.

    Hi Mrs H :)

Minimuffin, when I potty trained DD she did just "get it" and we only had a couple of accidents. She had been telling me for a while beforehand when she was needing a wee. She's been dry for a few months now but makes me laugh as she'll often take herself off to the toilet. If she tells me, she says I need a weewee for a wee, or I need the toilet if she needs a poo.

Hi, my first baby is now 2 weeks old, can't belive it! Just wondering if I could join everyone? We're still settling in, loads of visitors still appearing! Think I've finally got the breastfeeding down and hoping to make it out the house further than the supermarket/doctors/bank at some point. Got a breastfeeding cover to use in public, just arrived today. Not looking forward to my husband going back to work especially because I can't drive/vaccume/lift the pram after my EMCS but hoping that'll improve.

I am absolutely loving the cuddles, scared to leave her to even have a bath/shower incase she needs a feed but warned OH to shout me if I'm needed. Both grandparents are desperate to watch her but I don't want her out my sight. My aniexty has calmed a bit but at first anyone else holding her or strangers out and about trying to touch her made me feel awful, I was being quite irrational but I just wanted to protect her. Think I'm almost over the baby blues but day 3-5 I cried at everything! Happy or sad!

Hello I'm just gate crashing here :D

Can anyone offer any advice about breast pumps please?

I had a Medela Swing single pump for my first child. I sold it thinking there would be something better out there if I ever had a second.

    My questions are:

    1. What breast pump (if any) do you have & would you recommend?

    2. Does anyone have experience of using double pumps? What are the pros/cons?

    3. Anyone have any experience of Medela Swing Double or Medela Freestyle Double that they would be willing to share?

    Thanks in advance :)

I have the Avent electric and medela mini electric (ordered the medela one online but LO had jaundice and I needed to feed her fast so bought the avent meanwhile). The medela is quite noisy, I like the avent one. The hospital leant me the double medela one it was fantastic, pitty it's just a loan but she said they are £1400 to buy so not worth that. I bought the calma teat from medela, LO needs to work at feeding from the bottle so is choking less going back and fourth.
  • Thanks saf and mrsh! We had a better day today, he was bare bum this morning from he woke and he went on the potty on his own! Was so proud of him. Then we were out all day so he had pull ups on and after his bath he was jiggling about and I asked him if he had to go and he went over to the potty and went.

Saf he goes to nursery 3 days so I'm going to see what they say on Monday, I think he is doing OK but will have to see how he gets on there as he can't run about bare bum but if he isn't saying he needs to go then Ill see what they suggest. They thought he was ready as he asks to go in nursery but that could be a novelty as the other kids have loi breaks together!

Mrsh at the start i did set him on every half hr but he got fed up so I left him to it and kept asking him. He had a couple of accidents and I think eventually clicked that he had to sit on potty. Hopefully the pulling pants down will come to him eventually, will have to see how we get on.

DD is also our last one, I absolutely love the tiny baby stage and I'm sad that we won't be having more but we couldn't afford to have 3! Ds loves her (for now!) And I can't wait for them to play together.

  • Hi sweetie, welcome! Congrats on your DD and hope you are feeling OK after your emcs. I was the same with ds, hated people i didnt know well holding him and I googled literally everything when he was tiny. It's terrifying having to be responsible for such a delicate little thing but it gets easier. When does your dh go back to work? Once you feel better you will be able to go out on nice walks etc if the weather is nice, i find it really lifts my mood, and you and bubs will find your own wee routine :)
