    Hi ladies :)

Mrsh2b try not to worry too much about the play groups. I hate making small talk too but now G is bigger it's much easier at groups - when they're babies and just lie there you're stuck with the same people for the whole session, but now he spends 5-10mins if that in one place so I get in a couple of minutes chat with the mum at the playdoh table then use G as an excuse to move on to the sandpit. So less pressure to keep up a convo for ages. Also if you go to a sure start run playgroup there are normally staff there who will introduce you and have a chat so you're not just on your own. Agree with Nutella on Netmums too, there are sometime local meet ups arranged you could go along to.

Saff I'd stick to your guns with the food. Your OH is welcome to come to ours at teatime to see a REAL fussy eater! Is LOs tum all better now or still a bit dodgy? You can get kiddy probiotic yogurts that have really helped g when he was getting over bugs. Think they're Yeo valley.

  • I agree that groups are difficult when lo is tiny and that focused activities are a lot better.

Whilst I didn't keep in touch with anyone due to lo being the youngest so everyone else moved up a group I did enjoy going to baby yoga. I take lo swimming and am hoping to make some friends as a result, though obviously not taking her today with her being poorly.

In September we'll be going along to a music group that is starting up, lo will be 11 mths then so thought that was the perfect age to do an activity like that.

Hoping the weather stays nice, I've suddenly increased my washing amount due to remembering that I'd stored bigger sized clothes for LO and thought I better have a look. So glad I did in the sense that I kept thinking I must get her some t-shirts etc for the warmer weather, no need now, we're sorted that's for sure.

She's 8 mths now, but only just washing the 6-9 bundle of clothes. At least she'll have plenty for the nice weather instead of having already out grown it.

Have a nice day everyone. I'm off out end of the day for a coffee/cake with a friend when she finishes work, it's so nice to keep 1 thing going that we always did before I became a mum.

Benice, I've never given A a jar or any puree! Yes, she does eat sandwiches, pancakes, breads, cheeses too just isn't overly fussed with hot food.

Ooh Nutella, my work is giving everyone some M&S vouchers and I wasn't sure what to do with them as don't shop there but I may have to use the vouchers to buy some clothes for A... Not that she needs anymore but those are gorgeous!

That sounds like loads of food! Plenty of variety there. My LO loves musical banging too and we love it. Musical isn't aggressive!

My mum gets M&S discount - we get baby clothes, underwear, stuff for the house, interesting fruit for LO to try (golden kiwis are yum!) and I love the key lime pie!

MrsH as suggested, a group centred round an activity could be good as there's less small talk and more chatting about the activity. If you find one you like, maybe you could enroll in a course? that way most people won't know anyone else so there'll be less intimidating cliques/ people who already know each other well.

saffa - I don't really understand your OH logic (honestly no offence there) but if she is eating cold things I'd consider that not to be a problem. Not when it's so warm! It's hard though because your OH is entitled to make suggestions and we frequently have this spat in our house because OH feels over ruled by me (at times)

CD - congrats to OH on the new job/better pay. I'm in my last month of living on mat pay. I don't know if I'll be ableto hold back on spending when I get my real wage back!

I have a nursery question? I love the place I've chosen (3 childminders working from a large converted house) but come nap time they have children sleeping on cushions on the floor. I'm not keen on this as my lo has never gone to sleep on the floor and I don't think he'll get it. Anyone else have this?

We've had some crazy wake up times this week. 3.30am on Monday, 4 am , 4.45, 5.03 and finally 6am this morning! a friend told me my lo has no body clock as he doesn't wake at the same time ! eek!

Bangton, at my LO's nursery they sleep on mats on the floor. He'll be fine - he'll see that everyone else is doing it and they love copying each other. Plus, they're so active and do so many new and interesting things that come nap time they all fall asleep fairy easily. Some children bring a favourite blanket or teddy bear from home.

Thanks ladies for your suggestions, there's isn't really much going on where I live in terms of activities, we do go to signing classes and I do have small talk with the ladies there but apart from that my other option is playgroups. I will eventually go to one, I just need to kick myself up the bum first!!

Netmums hasn't brought up much, I've spoken to a couple of ladies but it's never progressed from that. It's a shame you lot are all over the place isn't it :)

We're a supportive bunch - we'll happily arrange a collective kick up the bum :D Just tell us when it's needed. You'll then have to report back and confirm that you actually went :p

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hello all I'm still here!
Been reading, just not much time for posting now I'm back at work. I feel we've struck a really nice balance, I really enjoy my days with him, we seem to do loads more together as I'm making more of the time we spend together. He's had an eye infection and many colds since going to nursery, but thankfully no sickness bug... yet! His nursery do have cots for them to sleep in when they nap, in a different, darkened room. They set a timer and do a sleep check every ten minutes, I think it's more intensive when they nap in a cot, to sleep on cushions on the floor means they'll always be able to keep an eye on them. (they also have a cushioned area in the corner, so they can sleep in the cosy corner if that suits them better. If you feel comfortable with the set up generally I think that you can trust LO will adapt to it well.
Not keen on the jars idea Saf? Maybe make your OH eat one for his dinner and then see if he can tempt A back to food with it!?! I think she'll come round in her own time. T has such variable food tastes (day by day). I do have some Ella's kitchen fruit smoothie pouches that he has if I feel he's not eaten enough of his 5 a day (he'll happily suck at them and it's cheaper than me making a smoothie with just as much good stuff in it!), but generally go with the flow. If he has a day of eating cream crackers, then he'll probably just eat cheese and peas the next day.
I like M&S clothes for T, they do seem to wash well and are a tasteful style, often have a nosey in the M&S Outlet near us so stock up if there is a bargain.
MrsH, I'm not great at the small talk of toddler groups. I've made a few friends from the church group which was only once a month (part of the agreement of having him christened) and then we've kept in touch. We then do swimming once a week and that's a pleasant way of seeing other children with a bit of a focus. I have to say I use nursery as his socialising bit so I'm happy he's mixing with other children then. Well done on the signing classes, so cute that he can sign he loves you. Does he still wear his helmet? Has it helped?

Glad to see everyone getting on well.
    L.xxx
  • Hey lazy wife, no his helmet came off just after his birthday because he didn't want it on anymore and kept pulling it off. His head is soo much better and I doubt anyone will ever notice that it's not perfectly round. :)

Nutella - ill let you know when I'm ready for my kick ;) maybe next week maybe the week after

Any plans for the weekend? Have you all had nice weather?
