In some ways I'm not surprised by m&p news, I find them overpriced - mostly the same stuff you'll find at Kiddicare but twice the price!
I always expect mothercare to go under: again they are so often undercut by Kiddicare, Amazon etc but I think they'll go on thanks to the convenience as there are mothercares on every high street. The easiest option when you need something quick...fran-o0 -
Saf -thanks, I don't tend to react when he falls, just say oops pick him up and show him his toy etc, sometimes he cries loads and needs a cuddle but other times he's not bothered. Re bibs, I've tried all kinds but don't tend to use any now as I find they either get in the way, get pulled off or get sucked on anyway. They all seem too big around the neck and the long sleeved ones are also big and lo gets his hands stuck in the sleeve.
Re your lo, it has been really warm here, don't know about your area but she may just prefer colder foods in the hot weather rather than cooked meals. I know I go through phases of not wanting cooked meals. If your OH things your lo has aggression issues he should meet my little boy! I get pretty much beat up everyday, unintentionally of course! And he has now discovered banging his hands on the table too!
MrsH - re groups, I only go to 2 and was hoping to make 'friends' as I'm the only one of my friends to have a baby but unfortunately that hasn't been the case, we have a quick chat when there etc but that's it. They all seem to know each other from elsewhere and are older than me. I have avoided baby and toddler groups so far as I'm guessing my ok is too young? Instead I only go to classes with a purpose (and which I pay for!). Was it you who does baby signing? That's one of the classes we go to and love it, has your lo started signing yet?
On the subject of clothes/nurseries I wanted to ask a few questions. Lo is currently in 6-9/9-12 so I'm stocking up on the next size now but don't know how many clothes we need? As he'll start at the childminders soon I imagine he'll need more than usual to cater for getting messy (well messier than usual) and for spares etc.
Also, these are stupid questions but once lo has reached 1 are short sleeved or long sleeved tops more suitable? I'm thinking I should probably have more short sleeved as can layer up/down more easily and there's less surface area to get dirty, but it's winter coming up? I'm really baffled by this, it's ridiculous.
Also when do you stop using bodysuits and use normal vests instead? Nappy changes are already a battle so I'm sure not having to do poppers on the bodysuit would make it slightly easier but worried about normal vests riding up. And finally when did you stop using babygrows? I realised I haven't used them for months so unsure if I should bother buying any in the next size.
I know how ridiculous this is and it's probably personal preference but baby clothes get me so confused!0 -

I find most people at groups seem to know each other from other places (mostly having children at school) and are younger than me!
However, I kept going and there are several mums and grandmums I chat to when I see them now. It is hard at the start but gets better with time and you becoming one of the regular faces as well. Everywhere I've gone there is a range of ages of children - lots of people who have toddlers also have babies!
Clothing - we don't send the best stuff to nursery cos it comes back with all sorts on it. Well, that's the plan, but sometimes hubby forgets and puts her in a lovely new outfit and I have to send him back to change her! If it's her older things I don't mind if there are things that don't come out and they are always doing colouring and playing in the sand as well as eating meals that always seem to be tomato based.
I'm not a good judge of how many clothes to have. My daughter seems to have tons. Like they don't fit in her drawers tons. Most were given to us though so not like I spent a fortune! I'm trying to move her up to the next size but hubby is failing to get up to the loft to get the boxes down for me (there are spiders up there and I'm not good with heights so not my job!).
The poppered vests only really become a problem when potty training, and personally I don't like the riding up the others do but it's less of an issue with an older one. It's up to you though. I tend to do long sleeves in colder weather and short in hotter. Little man spent most of last week living in a short sleeve vest.
I'm popping into work in a bit as I haven't taken little man in for ages. Both kids having chicken pox didn't help! I guess I need to start working out when I can go back but as much as I enjoy my job I really don't want to think about that:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

When they're a bit bigger but not yet potty trained, the poppered vest can be a good deterrent to taking the nappy off.
If DS runs round in just a nappy, he's likely to whip it off and piddle on the carpet/sofa/me. If he's got a poppered vest on, he sort of forgets about the nappy bit.0 -
wow I can't believe mamas and papas!!! Must say, I went alot when I was pregnant and when lo was tiny but I don't find it that good now he's older. The clothes are expensive and there aren't many toys that suit him. It's all bouncers/play mats and little baby toys.
On the other hand I love mothercare! I'm in there constantly.
clothes wise.. I buy short sleeve most of the time. You can buy packs of tshirts almost anywhere but next/boots in particular sell nice packs (as in. designs rather than just plain). If it's cold I then layer over a plain white long sleeve popper vest (you can get them cheaply at supermarkets but mothercare do 7 for a tenner which isn't bad)! I tend to dress my little one in fabric bottoms with a tshirt. I hate jeans as he's constricted and they are expensive! so basically none of what I have is massively costly and upsetting to me if it was damaged. At the moment with it being warm he's in short rompers but boots sell them for a fiver and often on 3 for 2. I have a lot of clothes for him at the moment but I buy big and don't worry if things are a tad billowy!
Got my second stage car seat today so I'm getting used to no longer using a travel system and lifting lo out rather than lo + car seat. I love it though. It's an ERF because I felt he'd outgrown his baby seat at an age that was uncomfortable for me to be ok with him forward facing but I've now realised he can stay rear facing till 4yrs old..unlikely!0 -
We were incredibly lucky with clothes and were given almost his entire wardrobe from birth til 2years by a friend who had two older boys. I've topped up with a few bits, eg I love sainsburys jeans as they're lined so nice and soft, and soft elastic waist, and his current favourite two t-shirts - one Lightning McQueen, and the other Mater from Cars. He'll go round telling anyone who'll listen he's got "Mainter" on his tummy
I honestly think we've spent less than £50 on clothes for him so far :money: We've moved away now though so when he needs the next size it'll be either supermarket or ebay bundles.
I kept him in long sleeved poppered vests and jogging bottoms for months, layered a t-shirt over the top if it was chilly. Now he's just in trousers/shorts and t-shirt alot of the time.Newborn thread member

Having said my daughter has lots of clothes, while I was in town I had a spending spree. Meant to buy things for baby but he got one t-shirt and a pair of jeans. No idea how much I got for her! I don't know how much of the next size we have or what until the loft is empty so just getting pretty things! It was primark though so not exactly spent a fortune...
Yep Bangton, the erf seats are until 4 years or usually either 18 or 25kgs. To be honest my daughter is nearly 2.5 and we've not got any plans to turn her around. She's a bit of a dink though, nowhere near the weight limit and this next size clothes we are just trying to get her into are 18-24 months!:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

I tend to use coloured long sleeved vests with trousers most of the time. Or a short sleeved vest with a long t-shirt over the top. Occn just a short sleeved vest with shorts if it's warm.
We gave up on babygrows at about 10months, got T some pjs and he looks so cute in them. His feet started to get tangled in the poppers at the bottom of the babygrows so that's why we stopped.
Another milestone this week. He's stopped breastfeeding, completely. He stopped the morning feed when I started work (about 1 month ago) and has just started to fall asleep without the night feed. I have to say, I'm pleased that we do a bit of a routine, so he recognises bedtime without the need for a bit of b00b. Now the excitement of nice bras again, only to realise that they are wither old and grey or no where near my new Katie Price size!???!?!! Keeping my eye out for a 20% off M&S so I can stock up on some nice bras again.

We use lots of short sleeved tops and cardigans, but I realise this is less of an option for boys! But anything that's easy to layer up/down is useful.
Our little people do get very messy indeed, so you will need some extra clothes and a spare set or two for his daycare bag. My LO's nursery asks for two spare full sets of clothes, and more often than not one set will end up covered in water/tomato sauce/some other substance and I get to take it home in a plastic bag, cover it in Vanish and hope for the best!
I can't remember when we stopped using babygrows in the daytime, maybe 4 months or so, but we still used them at night until she was 1-ish I think.
Bodysuits vs. normal vests - I think we changed to normal vests when she was 9 months-ish, partly because of the nappy change battles.
As you say though, it's all about personal preference, so I'd go with whatever works for you0
