Hi
just checking in quickly, bathroom is almost done and kitchen functional now. I had to scream at OH over the weekend and tell him I was at the end of my tether before he paid attention. He likes to disappear upstairs for a 3 hour nap without telling me and doesn't understand why that's rude!
Had a weird moment yesterday as LO is baby led weaning. Met up with some mums yesterday and our babies were having lunch. Mine is 29 weeks and was munching on big bits of roast veg. The 10 month old and 9 month old were being spoon fed little bits of pasta! I do feel like a bit of a loon doing BLW but I'm so proud at how well he's doing getting some bits of food down and don't mind breastfeeding a lot. He was a right mess at the end but I don't mind - hoping that he'll have a healthy attitude to food and won't be as fussy at the end of it, or at the least he'll like fruit and veg!0 -
Ha Delain, I've a load of washing hung out too, there is something ridiculously satisfying about a full washing line flapping in the breeze!
CD I think your plan re play group near the CMs sounds goodAlso with the eggs just let her have a bit of whatever you're having, I wouldn't bother doing anything special. G used to love a good cheesy omelette. Not so fussed at the moment, but thats because he's an unpredictable little monkey
BNTMS yay for BLW! It is messy but I found it much less stressful than the month or so I was pressured into spoon feeding. Although have to admit - G used to eat broccoli and carrot etc but now won't touch any veg with a ten foot pole. But he'll turn into a grape before too long with the amount he gets through!Newborn thread member

Hahaha, grapes are a favourite here too - she asks for them every time she comes into the kitchen.I sometimes end up hiding them and pretending we haven't got any left!0

Thanks for all the comments regarding childcare and drooling. The drooling seems to have eased up a little bit but still no teeth. I also think I've found the childminder I'm going to use and work have helped out a bit by giving me a few set days (I work shifts) so it should make things easier.
CD just go with your instinct, I'm sure your lo will be fine. My lo is a very fussy baby and is not very sociable but he seemed ok with the childminder when we went to visit. However I'm in a bit of a similar situation as you as the childminder I'm going to use is slightly different and is 2 childminders who work together in the same house so my lo will always be around both of them.
Saf(?) can't remember if it was you asking but I've seen 'medicine' dummy's which you put medicine in to encourage babies to take it, don't know how they work and obviously no use if your lo doesn't use a dummy.
I'm looking for advice on blw, lo is 24 weeks so we will be starting soon. He's not interested in any baby food that he's tried but is trying to eat everything (including the dog!)
I've got the cookbook but don't really know where to start. We don't eat our tea until lo is in bed and during the day I can only leave him alone for 5mins before he starts crying so I need some really quick and simple ideas. I'm a very fussy eater so will start buying food especially for lo. Also looking for things I can give him to suck/chomp on that won't break up into pieces, I've given him bickie pegs which he loves to suck but they lack flavour. Can I peel and core an apple and give him that? So he gets the juice but won't eat the apple?
All ideas welcome.0 -
The most successful things for BLW so far for me have been broccoli, large orange segments, melon, mushy ripe strawberries and roasted sweet potato. LO swallows some things but hasn't quite got the hang of chewing - he spits a fair bit out!0

Evening ladies
Gave A her last dose of antibiotics tonight, fingers crossed that will be it -she still has a cough but hoping that will go without another course. She doesn't have a dummy so a medicine dummy wouldn't help. At lunch today she took her medication like a star - this evening we had major drama... but its over!
Re BLW, I give A (and have from the start) all types of fruit - bananas, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, apple, orange, naartjies, grapefruit, pear. She also has salad things - loves tomatoes, cucumber etc. She prefers raw veg to cooked. Toast fingers are also good with a selection of toppings. Yoghurt is messy! Hmm I tend to give A whatever I'm eating and have never made her a separate meal to what we have. We adjusted the time of our evening meal so that we could all eat together as A eats better when someone eats with her rather than expecting her to eat alone
The other thing I found with BLW is that somedays A would eat loads, and other days she would play and barely eat anything... kind of how some days we're hungrier than other days.0 -
Thanks Saffa gonna try cucumber and tomato soon. Tried grapes and raspberries but they were too small for him to hold. The pears I tried were too hard. Did you soften the apple and pear somehow?0

BLW we started with cooked broccoli and carrot (in sticks and obv cold enough he could hold it himself). Remember is it baby led, so they'll eat what they fancy and some days not much , that's why you still keep up milk feeds as they want too. Cream crackers and breadsticks went down very well from the start as very easy to handle and he could suck them til soft for eating. Lots of veg and fruit to start. Apple sticks good. Even if stuff was hard (like apple) T tended to just suck it mostly to start with and then the bit of apple would appear again a minute later! It's about getting them used to moving things around their mouth and exploring as much as eating. Then, like BeNice said it's very satisfying just giving them some of your sandwich when your out whilst others are dealing with spoons and purees.
Have to say we're not big on mess here, I reluctantly give pasta in a tomato sauce (more likely to be pasta with a raw tomato and cooked veg) and yogurt he gets on a spoon, fed to him, but will barely get through a pot as he's very much in control of knowing when he's done.
Aaaaaany way. A rough night here, t didn't go to bed until gone 10 and now I'm lying awake at 3am... Grrrrr
Night all.x0 -

With pears, get a softer variety (comice, rocha etch) or even rock hard conference pears will soften a bit after a while in the fruit bowl.
I don't know too much about apples but it's Gala apples we usually get and they're ok!
rasperries are awesome if you freeze them and LO can eat them straight from the freezer. I eat frozen rasperries all the timethe ones frozen from fresh are the nicest ones.
watermelon has a really nice consistency, you could also try peppers cut into sticks, banana, breadsticks are a godsend for out and about, also strawberries and sticks of cheese.
that turned out to be a mammoth list, sorry!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

This weaning discussion is quite handy as I'm going to have to tackle that again in a few months! My daughter was blw but even at gone 2 she will have funny days when certain things are not to her taste.
Most recently one day she refused to eat any potato, the next day at nursery that was all she ate of her lunch. Children are weird!
CD glad to hear you have found childcare you are happy with. Your gut is definitely the way to go. I had a nursery recommended to me and went to visit and didn't like it. I think it was a nice place in a way but very big and my daughter wouldn't have enjoyed being in such a big group at the time. It just wasn't right. Where she goes now felt right straight away.
Off today to see one of my best friends who lives away but is staying with her mum for a few days. She has 3 girls, and my daughter loves playing with them. As a bonus it will wear her out ready for naptime!:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls
