Yay for Mama and Mumma! :D We've got new words coming thick and fast now (today's new ones: 'running' and 'bless you' - bessoo!) - in my experience, once they develop an interest and understand the point of talking, you see daily improvements, so I'm sure there'll be no stopping him now :)

LO knows six or so letters at the moment - her attention span is approx.10 seconds, so progress is slow, but she loves saying the letters and finding the ones she knows in books, on the bus and on street signs :) I'm trying to properly get my head around phonics - not something I was taught myself as a child, so I'm on a steep learning curve...

    Hallo ladies

Glad that you're all well and sorry I've been scarce. Since getting back from our trip to SA life seems to have been a whirlwind, combined with finally getting work sorted out etc but things seem to be settling down for the last few weeks of my time off. Today is officially my last day of maternity leave :( though Monday I start 5 weeks annual leave before my return to work.

I'm feeling a little better about it though than I was as had to go in for a meeting this week and OH took the day off and had LO. She is ill this week, but stayed with him and wasn't overly distraught or clingy when I got back either so that bodes well for her settling in at nursery. It was the first time I had left her for longer than a half hour.

She's a chest infection at the moment, and so I'm battling to get an antibiotic into her three times a day... it is easier to give my cat medication than A... I'm hoping she'll improve as she gets older and is able to understand why I have to do it.

I had to bite my tongue after OH had sent the day with A; he said to me: I don't think I could be a house husband... hehe he had a new found respect for what I actually do and why some days although it may look as though I have done nothing that is far from the truth!

Oh yes, on shoes, I bought A some shoes when we were out in SA, but because she wanted to walk everywhere (holding hands) and the ground was not suitable for bare feet/socks. Since being back I very seldom put her shoes on her.

A's latest thing is putting things into/out of containers... SUCH fun!!! She can spend ages doing this :D

I'd love to have another in a year's time... but have some serious work to do on other half to convince him. I think as he is finding A more engaging as she is getting older that may help. I just caught her trying to play with my devil cat - A was offering the cat a sock, then snatching it away whilst giggling madly... all very well except my cat is liable to take a swipe at A.

A is now trying to open the stair gate - she has worked out which side it opens, and which bit is the bit that makes it open and is fiddling away with it... time I got off here and engage her in a different game I think! We'll be in trouble when she does figure out the gates

Hi again ladies, just a quick Q: any reactions to the jabs at 1year?
Just had our date through and it is right in the middle of A's settling in period at nursery. The surgery won't change the date as their policy is two weeks after the first birthday and no sooner, but I don't want her to have an adverse reaction and then associate feeling grotty with being in nursery, or am I over thinking this?

I don't remember my daughter having any problems saffagal. I did split them though so she had the boosters at 1 and the mmr a couple of months later.

Can you put them back a bit and book her in for after the nursery sessions? I guess you are going back to work though so perhaps that won't work!

I did consider that Crabapple, but they only do the innoculation clinics on what will be my working days (Tue/Wed) so would mean taking leave almost as soon as I'm back which I'd rather not do.

I'm glad you asked that saffa as my lo is booked in for his mmr in a couple of weeks and I've been reading all sorts :(

My LO was absolutely fine after her 1 year jabs/MMR - no reaction at all. Keeping my fingers crossed for you both :)
  • Evening all.

Well I have resorted to the fact that work will not budge on my days of work as they have not replied to my last attempt to ask them if anything can be done so I can have Thurs & Fri off and now of course it is Easter holidays.

So have decided to put on a brave face and just go with it. Have secured my LO to continue with her swimming on a Monday and her baby yoga switches from a Wed to a Mon due to being older so have booked that in as well.

Have also managed to find a child minder that has spaces Wed - Fri and a child minder who has spaces on a Fri. So meeting them on Sunday so fingers crossed will either switch child minders all together or secure the alternative child minder for Fri and keep my current child minder for the Wed & Thurs.

Might sound petty but also very determined to stick to my contracted work hours now. Just feel my extra effort of often staying behind and doing things outside of work hours over the last 10 years has accounted for nothing.

CD, it doesn't sound petty at all - I learnt a good few years ago that "extra" isn't appreciated or taken into account when its crunch time. Like you, it sounds petty, but I now make a point of taking my lunch break and won't answer the phone, or see patients/relatives in that half hour.
Hope it goes well with the childminders on Sunday.

Will keep fingers crossed too, thank you Nutella. Hope everything is going well with the house this time
