I want to ask a question to you guys to understand something.
You know when an adult has something go down the wrong pipe? We have to be upright and try to force the feeling away somehow by patting on back or coughing it out or doing something or the other but we apply a bit of force in what we do.
The other day a baby was lying in a pram a very young thing and she started to cough in the same manner as if something went down the wrong pipe (Im sure you can imagine what that sound would sound like)
But no one flinched. I obviously became quite concerned as to the fact that the baby is lying down on back first of all I mean if that were an adult we'd have shot right up coughing and spluttering!
The baby was alright I presume as everything was normal but it just led me to think how do baby's do it whilst on their backs?0 -
Wapow - my husband asked this at the hospital when LO was a few days old, he was worried she would bring milk back up and choke. They said that babies are very good on their backs and know to turn their head to the side to let it drain.
I can only assume it would be completely different if they'd just eaten something. Saying that though I have picked up my LO when she's on her back and been coughing as it's frightened me and like you said just think it must feel so much better to be sat up right to clear whatever it is making you cough.
Thanks Saffagal re work. I'm in a school so also going to make sure I am in that staffroom for 12pm for my lunch, often I get 20 rushed minutes after just finishing off something. Will be stopping what I'm doing and going for my lunch when the students do.
Not up to much today. Saturday's are such a limbo day as my husband works but sometimes can be home for 12pm (he delivers rental cars) compared to getting home at 6pm in the week. So I never know whether to do my own thing or stay at home on the off chance he finishes early so we get some family time together.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Hope everyone has a good weekend? We ended up getting a TON of stuff upinto the loft and shifted some furniture around so ready to start decorating our bedroom - or we will be once we've ripped all the skirting boards and door frames etc out. Excited though
I've got a cherished hour or so to myself now as OH has taken G out, I've got a glass of wine and off to find something to watch while I do my meal plan for the weekNewborn thread member

Evening ladies
We had an ok weekend, we're all not too well at the moment which is rotten, but at least I had OH about to assist in giving A her antibiotic... does anyone have any tips? I am using a syringe but am still struggling - and no, she won't have it off a spoon. I asked the pharmacist - she obviously doesn't have children... her response was "But it is banana flavoured" Uh, yes, and???
We did finally get around to selecting and ordering a shed for the garden - its been on the to do list since last October! Still, at least it's done now
I really fancy a glass of wine, but have a fasting blood test in the morning so just on water
Here's hoping for a good night for us all, and a lovely week ahead0 -
Sorry I've been AWOL, just don't get time to post much and T's keeping me busy!
No advice for the antibiotics Saf, I think BLW (we've done it too) has it's advantages, but it does teach them to choose what goes in their mouths a bit more... I'm guessing banana medicine is a no! Enjoy your shed?!!?!
Katie, whoop for settling in well to your new home, sounds like a productive day, enjoy your stolen hour
Hope everyone coming on well, I'm starting nursery settling in on Wednesday with T, we've 7 sessions (?) so should be well accustomed to it when I'm back at work. They're lovely and very concerned that he'll be settled so I can relax in work (I'm a bit more wing it, but appreciate that they're so organised).
As for our weekend, we've had the in-laws over, so I've toast crumbs in my butter and a complex about how bad a mother I am but T has had a nice time with his grandparents so makes it all worth it. (and it was our 6 year wedding anniversary, although we don't do anything for it... no card or stuff, but we do try and say happy anniversary to eat other in the morning??!!)
Hope everyone's enjoyed a lively weekend with a sneaky bit of family time.

Saf, have you tried taking some antibiotics yourself and making a big deal of how fantastically yummy it is? Often works here when my LO isn't sure about something - especially if I pretend that I don't really want to share it with her... Baby psychology is such a weird and wonderful thing0

Saf - sorry haven't got any advice re the antibiotics, but wishing you all the best with it and hoping you're all better soon.
Lazywife - good luck with the settling in at nursery sessions.
That's why I am posting on here late all, back with the dreaded childcare situation.
So heard from work on Wed re working part time (via email) and told I'd be working Wed - Fri. Replied to the email which I'm sure they read again asking for it to be re considered as I had no childcare on a Fri. I also had to tell them what I wanted for lunch for the inset day on return after Easter holidays so this is why I'm sure they picked it up, however I had no reply.
Based on that I started contacting child minders again. Visited one yesterday who had spaces for Wed - Fri but they just didn't live up to what I have already found. Then today visited another who had space on the Fri and she was fantastic, exactly on the same par as the child minder I found in February.
Sooooo at the moment have decided to send LO to two child minders from the beginning of June when she is 8 mths old. Child minder A on the Wed & Thurs and child minder B on the Fri.
It turns out this 2nd child minder looks after the eldest daughter of a colleague of mine. She didn't have the space to look after the younger sister and the younger sister weirdly enough goes to the 1st child minder I have. So child minder B mentioned that she would work closely with child minder A which is reassuring.
Both child minders got outstanding from ofsted and I could definitely see why.
I'm also thinking of visiting a nursery that has been recommended to me, can't hurt.
Just soooo scared to make the wrong decision for my LO. Both child minders are just fantastic, it's just a shame neither of them can do the whole 3 days. Though child minder B said she'd keep me informed if she was able to have LO Wed & Thurs.
Am I doing the wrong thing having an 8 mth old going to 2 child minders? A colleague of mine who is also returning from maternity leave is sending her LO to her parents 1 day a week, her husbands parents 1 day and then a nursery the other day.
I know of course it's going to grandparents so they already have that connection but keep thinking that eventually my LO will build that relationship up with her child minders.
Feel free to tell me you think I'm doing the wrong thing and it would be better for LO to go to the same place Wed - Fri. I'm purely positing to see what people think, not looking for reassurance of my decision or to see if anyone has done anything similar and how their LO got on.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
CD I wouldn't worry about the 2 childminders, 2 outstanding has got to be better than 1 so so one.
Saffa have you thought about mixing the meds into some yoghurt?
Afm, all fine here. I am managing ok with the lack of sleep, my LO stopped sleeping through when we started weaning, I would really love a full night's kip, I wonder how long it will take! I just hope that it doesn't get even worse at 9 months when I hear there's a common sleep regression!0 -
I wouldn't be worried about having two childminders
babies are quite adaptable like that
Another horrible day here... rain rain and more rain!
Plus it's the easter holidays now so we're stck indoors being bad tempered and falling over each otherMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
