As always Kat, you are one smart putty tat. I know I will get the PM about the blog
- will be sure not to carelessly pass it to others who may troll it. With a blog at least you have the option of blocking users but too much fuss when you're out there in the middle of nowhere, digging your toes into the sand and drinking something cold and fruity!
Cannot wait to see what it ended up being named hehe!!
Ref your friends bridesmaid... how absolutely awful! I am one of those people who obviously doesn't taste nice and never get bitten, but regardless I would be taking every shot and tablet I could everytime it was necessary! You're smart travellers
Indigo where's your diary/blog so we can follow you on your travels too!!

Sorry to intrude, but tax is what I do for a living so I thought I could offer some assistance (and hopefully good news).
Basically, when you get your P45 - look at your Gross Pay, subtract £10,000 from that, and multiply what is left by 20% (I'm guessing from figures you've mentioned earlier in the thread that you're in the 20% bracket)
Whatever figure you get, is your tax liability for the year - so basically the difference between this, and the tax you've paid so far, is what you will get as a refund.
Another way of working it, is by saying if your final pay and P45 is dated September, then this is Month 6 of the Tax Year - therefore you still have £5k of your allowance unused as you only gain 1/12th of this each month.
£5k x 20% is £1000, so this is what you should get back :T
Hope that helps, been lurking in the thread recently and am both in awe of what you've saved and jealous of your upcoming travelling :rotfl:
Ugh! This makes it so much easier to understand - bet you sat chuckling at my few "trying to figure out tax refund" posts. :rotfl:..yes this makes things a lot easier to understand so thank you very much. I appreciate it as I am sure everyone else will.
I am glad you have lurked and especially surfaced to say hello - always great to meet (:)) new folk. Thank you for saying you are in awe - sometimes I think it might not be enough or perhaps there have been so many other people before me that have done the same it might not be that fascinating - but I don't want you to be jealous... would you ever considerate it yourself?
Dare you tell us a bit more about yourself..?:o“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Have been following your diary quietly and silently.......would like to continue with your blog. Please PM the blog name when you have it.
There is a chance - as Lilt says - since it's my blog I can boot people off it and block silly comments. I will contemplate posting the blog name here over the next few weeks but if I decide it about it I will message you personally don't worry!
Thanks for commenting and letting me know your interest - the change to the big bad web is frightening and I will need some familiar faces/ names to keep me on the straight and narrow!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. PM sent - its very very simple but took me a long long time to come up with. Clearly simplicity doesn't come easy for me -..
Yes as mentioned above I am taking on board what you said - I can delete comments and I don't want to miss anyone on here that might not post as often or at all.. I will consider putting the name up here as long as you all don't get too excited..:p.. I'd feel guilty if it turns out a bit or a bore for you although some base level entires might be hitting old ground for you MSE'ers who have been with me for the entire journey... I will try and be witty as least and I guess you will all get to see what I look like at last... lol!
Yes Indigo do you have a blog set up?“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Hahaha yes you do seem to think.. a LOT. But you are also an epic do-er too, so I can forgive the thinking :P
I am sure all of us waifs and strays that you have picked up on your journey will love to read about it, whether it starts from the beginning or not! You need to start at the start
As for seeing what you look like...are you feeling shy? Have to say I have no fear posting pics of Jellytot... but me? Hmmm scared! Lol.

Wow you have been busy these last days! It must be so exciting to know you'll be setting off on your adventure imminently - do you have a countdown calendar (in the style of 'last week of school year')?!
It would be great to be able to keep up with your travels when you take the first step of your epic adventure, please would you PM your blog?
Did the bike selling go to plan?
Very pragmatic to take malaria tablets - no point in putting yourself at risk when it's so easily prevented, and you have heard of the effects it can have. A former colleague had malaria (a less serious type than you friend's friend) and every few years it will make an appearance and lay him low for a while (normally after stress)."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

I have been following this diary Kat for a long time, I too was very happy to see you made the big decision to hand in your resignation so are completely free!!
I have 6 1/2 months of travel starting in December as you may remember me mentioning in the challenges. I am not resigning as I have an unpaid sabbatical.
Mich81 - your explanation makes perfect sense - I am taking unpaid leave across two tax years for a few months either side of April, I won't have a p45, do you know if I would complete a p85 prior to going or on my return when I have my p60 for 14/15 then 15/16?
I have been inspired by the blog chat and decided some time ago to write one for my travels, do you have any hints and tips for setting one up Kat? Would very much like to read about your travels as you have mentioned so many bits of your plans as you have gone along would be great to see how you enjoy experiencing them.
I have just bought generic malarone tablets for my trip - by far the cheapest place was Asda Pharmacy - face to face discussion with the pharmacist no prescription required and £1 a tablet.
Lovely to see you around Lilt - your pictures of Jellytot are awesome, she is such a cutie!0 -
Ooooooh Oldestgnome I think you have beaten us all on those malaria tabbie prices - what a superb price! Well done you! Yes I remember you mentioning your travels! Are you excited? Where are you going though?...And dare I ask how old you are?.... I am excited for you though... even better that your company gave a sabbatical, not many do.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Yes - just messaged the guy as he left an alarm fob here with me. He says it's currently in bits getting a makeover so he is the perfect new owner although it's a little sad still. I keep seeing bikes whizz passed when I am in my friends car...:o... all for a good reason thought right.
And yes I will message you don't worry!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
