Midwife putting the booking in stuff onto the computer system triggered my scan appt, which arrived in the post shortly after. But it seems every NHS trust has their own way of running these things

I had my scan at what we thought was 12+3 on 28th Dec and was moved forward to 13+1 based on measurements (and bean is on 90th centile now at 35 weeks according to growth scans)

And, at that first scan, you don't 'hear' the heartbeat, although you should see it on screen.

They don't even start listening for it at appts til about 16 weeks and even then it's not guaranteed and they might not try, or if they do, only if it's been made clear that as baby is so small, they might not be able to find it but it does not mean it is not there. Mine was clear at 16 weeks but bean has been hiding/ in odd positions since then so it's actually been harder to find later on. HOwever, I've seen it beating away on the growth scans

Thanks for asking 20somethinggirl, scan today was fine, and they gave me a due date of 6 December. I had to go back in n twice, once after going to the loo and once after having something sugary to eat and a walk, in case that got baby into a better position for the neck measurement. So relieved and lovely to see little one (and only one!) on screen!

Welcome and congrats fluffy socks, sounds like a bit of a surprise and lifestyle adjustment!

Tasha, I think T was a few days after my first midwife apptmy scan letter arrived.

I shall be moving to the 12-24 week thread, hope to see you all there. Sticky baby dust and sickness free wishes to you all!

Congrats on the scan Timeflies, and thanks for the welcome xx
So, doctors appt tomorrow. No doubt they will ask for date of LMP- which I can't remember- whoops! Doctor then sends referral to the midwives at the local hospital.
In my area, the booking in appointment is done on the same morning/ afternoon as the 12 week scan. They usually ring to make the appointment before sending out a letter to confirm. This caused a drama with my first pregnancy as It turned out I hadn't updated my phone number when I moved out from my parents several years earlier. So my mum got a phone call from the "hospital" trying to contact me to make an appointment. Her reaction was quite neurotic. Her best guesses were either I was terribly ill or I was investigating getting my eggs frozen lol. So I will tell her sooner rather than later this time to keep myself out of trouble :)
I did use a clearblue digital test which placed me at approx 5 weeks pregnant, not sure if the doc will take that for the date or send me for a dating scan.
DH literally has not mentioned my announcement since but did point out a little newborn baby to me today so he does have a soft side really. Plus he has been very affectionate so he can't be too cross?!?

For those searching for maternity pants:
I bought these for work a couple of weeks ago (not realising why I was feeling uncomfortable in my usual work trousers lol) They aren't maternity wear but I went for a size up. Lots of room to grow, with the drawstring allowing you to get the size right.
Rather than wearing a tight top like the model, I find they look really quite smart with a looser top. Plus they are nice and cool and don't need ironing. I think they do olive green too.

  • Hi

Just popping in to say I'm in Buckinghamshire and I filled a form in at the doctors once I knew I was pregnant and got a scan letter a few days later. That was a few weeks before the booking appointment so it really does seem to vary wildly how it's done across the country.

Thanks for the suggestion of trousers fluffy. I actually have a paid of pjs similar to that and did ask my husband if I could get away with wearing them out... and welcome and congrats!

Over to 12-24 weeks I go...

Haha they are comfy on the waist like pj pants, but smart fabric, not like jogging bottoms. And lovely and cool too ;)

Gosh its quiet on here :(
How many ladies are Still here? I know a few have recently graduated to the 12-24 week thread.
    How is everyone feeling?
Touch wood, I haven't had nausea for the past couple of days but I am so tired! And I have been off work for the past week. Back to early get-ups tomorrow
Thankfully its not too long until the Summer hols. Mad to think that after the Summer I'll only have one term to do before I go on Mat Leave again. (I think this baby will be due in the January- but honestly not sure)
Another family gathering today, lots of babies and toddlers, plus my pregnant sis-in-law. Really hard to keep our secret. Especially when it hit 6pm and my body wanted a snooze :rotfl::rotfl:
Been browsing local Facebook selling sites as we had literally given everything away, from baby monitors to cots. So will need to start from scratch like with our first child.
Also concerned as to whether we now need a bigger car. 3 car seats won't fit in the back of my car. Could put the baby/ or my eldest in the front but if DH was with us too, he would have to be squashed in the middle.
    Need a lottery win :rotfl:

So they've changed things around here since my last pregnancy. Now the booking in appt is done a couple of weeks before the scan.
Got my appts today through the post.
Booking in 10th July, conveniently it is on my day off and in the afternoon so DS2 will be at preschool.
Scan 31st July, after our week's holiday but still during school hols so no work missed for me. Plus its very early in the morning so possibly easier for DH to get to.
Worried that I already look and feel very pregnant despite it being very early days. Hope I'm not further along than I think. Particularly finding it almost impossible to bend over / lean forward as it feels like my belly is in the way.
I am not sure my tummy muscles ever knitted together properly after DS2, perhaps that is the reason my belly is sticking out so early?
One of my friends has just messaged asking to meet up for "drinks". I am still deciding on a suitable reply. I am not up for late nights atm, never mind making excuses why I'm not having a drink.
Hoping we get some new members soon.... talking to yourself is a sign of madness lol.:rotfl:

  • I'm still lurking about so you're not completely mad!

The drink thing wasn't too much of an issue for me because I barely drink anyway but good luck with the reply!

Thanks Twentysomething. Just wrote a long reply but then the site logged me out! So will save my thoughts for another day.
