  • hello... tentatively joining this thread as I am 4wk 6days today. Feels very early and I feel like I can't take anything for granted yet although haven't been able to help myself peeping down the previously foreign (and mind blowing) baby sections in the supermarket (how cute are the Christmas baby gros?) :)

Going to GP between Christmas and New Year although I am about to change GPs and was wondering if I should do that first (have moved house recently to a new area) or shall I go to the first appt with the old GP and then change over? I suppose having everything joined up would be easier but paranoid signing up to new practice and then getting an appt will take forever!

Lovely to read that some of you have had scans recently, can't wait for the reassurance a scan will bring. Ovia tells me that my little bun is the size of a poppy seed, just seems so tiny and vulnerable for now. :o

I would do it with your new doctors, but tbh the first meeting with the doctor was about 10 mins long and didn't seem massively important. He just needs a positive to put in the file to book you in with midwife, which won't be booked til you are about 8 weeks. I would just do it at one doctors so I would have the same medical people all the way through. But if you want the confirmation at the doctors get that with the one you're at now x

Hey chickenmama just delurking to say have you checked you need to do GP at all? In many areas you just ask for a referral to the midwife rather than needing an actual GP appointment - no point wasting your time if you don't need to x
Exactly this- I asked at GP reception and they just gave me the midwives' number. They didn't need to get involved at all.

I did book to see my GP, but that was to manage my antidepressants in relation to now being pregnant. Also booked my flu jab and got the prescription exemption form thingie at GPs which nurse signed off for me when I had my flu jan

I had my booking appt at 5 weeks as they had a slot free and definitely seem to be of the prefer to see you sooner type around here. Does make for a blinking long wait til the scan though- now under 2 weeks, finally. I've then had to ring the midwives, even before I was eight weeks to discuss risk of Zika as we were in Singapore on holiday from LMP

My doctor really didn't seem that bothered, he said there's nothing he can do and it's all up to the midwife from now on. That was 5 weeks for me too. Unfortunately, two days later it was suspected to be an ectopic pregnancy so had to be admitted to hospital until it was determined that it wasn't.

I have a question actually - the hospital did an internal scan and found a 17mm cyst on my left ovary and said that my right ovary looked scarred and damaged from previous cysts. Any idea what all this is about? They said it wasn't polycystic ovaries so I'm a bit stumped as to why theres a 2cm cyst and they're not really bothered about it yet?

Actually, the first confirmation that I had that I really, genuinely was pregnant was when I had my scan. I still haven't had a urine sample taken, though my midwife did give me a sample pot for my 16 week appointment.

And apparently in Essex, you can self refer to Midwife - although the Dr receptionists didn't seem to know that...
  • Maybe it's just my doctor's then, most of the staff are lovely, but the doctor never really seems to have time for anything.

So excited for my scan tomorrow!! Literally counting down the hours!

I had urine and bloods done at booking in (urine tested there and then for glucose and protein but also sent off)

And another sample pot waiting for the 16 week appt.

Am really hoping it all becomes a bit more real at the scan.
  • Looking for some advice about getting time off for preg related appointments before announcing pregnancy?

I was thinking of just taking a half day holiday (for Xmas shopping or whatever) for my booking in. However it clashes with my work Xmas meal, and I don't want to look _that_ antisocial! Maybe I should say 'doc's appointment' and fudge it?

It's a medical appointment - just call it such. Your employer is obliged to give you time off to attend antenatal appointments - you only need to mention it's antenatal if your line manager questions it.
