  • Sorry to hear that, Gelly. I had bright red spotting over the weekend - went to the out of hours at the local hospital and they arranged a scan for me this morning. I was convinced I was going to be given bad news, but there it was - little 7+2 heartbeat and everything.

It was awful! The nurse said it's very very common (even red, scary blood) in early pregnancy. Im keeping my fingers tightly crossed. Have you still other pregnancy symptoms?

  • Thanks folks, I did have some spotting with dc1 - even red spotting and all was OK so trying to stay positive. Seeing the GP later as she said to come back with any bleeding at all. Will keep you posted.

Gelly Big hugs. I really hope that everything is ok for you xxxx

Dinky - How scary but so happy that you saw a heartbeat :D

MancMama - I know how you feel, think we might have to tell the parents soon because its hard enough work keeping my chin up at work never mind with other people! At least I could slob around with the parents if they knew!
  • dinky so glad everything is ok, moneypenny keep us posted x

Thinking of you Gelly, I hope it turns out to be nothing.

I went home sick again yesterday, that's twice now. I work in an open plan office, 1 room with 22 people. I think everyone knows there is something wrong with me as I am never off. I am 10+4 today so not long before I can reveal all.
  • I know how you feel Toots, I'm a police officer so it is more than obvious that I'm pregnant especially now I'm on restricted duties... I keep saying it's my back but they are having none of it.
I'm 9+5 weeks and finding that my sickness is started to subside a little now (only a little.. as in not running for the toilet).

euro- let me know how your booking in goes, mine is on Thursday arghhhh. Have the worst phobia of needles so I'm dreading it.

Lemon- Good luck today and let us know how the scan goes!

    Hi ladies

    All went well this morning.

Midwife was lovely, but she won't be the midwife that I'll have all the way through as she was covering for someone who is on holiday at the moment.

Went through my medical history, close family's med history, same for DH and his family etc. Got weighed, had my blood pressure taken, had to take in a wee sample, and they took some blood samples. Skint - the blood sample part was done at the end and was very quick, but I'm sure they'd do it near the start of the appointment if you explain and just want to get it over and done with. She was very nice and asked if I was 'feeling up to it' before taking the blood. I think because I'd explained about the nausea and sickness, as I've never been afraid of needles and used to donate blood regularly up until we conceived.

Other than that there was lots of explanations about screening tests, flu vaccine and whooping cough vaccine. I've decided against flu vaccine as the efficacy in recent years has been soooo poor, and my immune system is pretty robust (I (touch wood) haven't even had a cold in over two years), as well as the fact that very few people I know have actually had flu recently. I will get the whooping cough one when it's offered though (later on in pregnancy) as a LOT of children of the people I know have had it recently - including a colleague's child who had it only last week. It does seem to be on the rise at the moment.

Explanation of what happens next - ie 12 week dating scan, then next midwife appointment, and all being well, it will mostly be midwife appointments from there on. A lot of asking your consent for things with regards to testing and data storing and sharing.

And then at the end, she gave me a form to send off to get free prescriptions and dentistry for duration of pregnancy and for 12 months after. A new pot to pee in for next appointment! lol A Bounty pack with some vouchers and free samples in and a big orange book which has all my details recorded in, as well as all the things we discussed, tests taken etc etc.

Phew! I think that's everything, I've probably forgotten something. Oh, we also briefly discussed the various birthing options (eek!). I'd already kinda settled on the midwife led unit, and using the birthing pool (provided all goes well/smoothly/no complications) and she agreed that this is a good option for a low risk, first time birth.

Lemon - Is your scan today? Or tomorrow? Thinking of you and hope all goes swimmingly and there is just the one in there! ;)

  • Thank you MancMama4, I was very relieved. How something that is 10.3mm long can have a heartbeat I don't quite understand - us women are amazing!!

I have my booking in appointment next Monday, at the Drs surgery. With my daughter (7 years ago) the midwife came round to our house for the appointment and I remember having to crawl on hands and knees to the porch to have a full blown panic attack after she took my blood. I HATE IT!!!! Im dreading next week as the surgery is always SO hot, and the appointment is in the morning so I won't have been able to eat anything. Humph. I just know im going to make a total fool of myself!!

    Hope everyone is doing ok....xx

  • I think I want to unofficially join the thread.

I had suspicions 6th/7th, tested Monday night and Tuesday night and had faint positives. Went to my GP on Wednesday for a blood test. Got the results on Friday and my HCG level was 58. I thought I would have been 6 weeks going off my LMP but he said the level is very low for that many weeks. I'm going back on Friday for another test and should get the results next week Tuesday or Wednesday to make sure the HCG is going in the right direction. As I've not be able to settle I've keep testing. Saturday still positive, and this morning still positive although it was fainter than Saturday. I think my tests come up stronger late afternoon.

I am so nauseous, not actually been sick yet. By boobs are sore but seem to be at their worst late afternoons and I'm really hungry but get a wave of nausea once I start eating. The next 7 days are going to be the longest ever. Looking back over the last few weeks I think I may have ovulated around the 15th-18th November so am guessing I'm about 4-5 weeks.
  • Thanks for the update on booking in euronorris, I feel less nervous about going in next week now. I haven't been asked to take a sample so will make sure I need to go when I get there in case they ask haha!

Desperate to get to this weekend as will be 8 weeks then and feel like I'm getting somewhere... nausea still on and off constantly and feeling a little dizzy (think BP is on the low side) so will mention to Midwife next week.

I think with the way the dates are lining up I will be having a scan Xmas week possibly which would be amazing (all being well of course).

Hope everyone is well, update us Lemon as soon as you can! Hugs to those who need them and welcome Athens xx
