  • TCD - am also peeing on sticks everyday and so far they haven't got darker.

As long as it's there I'm happy(ish). Some people have said their lines were only really dark in the afternoon. Might try that.
Maybe the clearblue digital might give you more reassurance if the "weeks pregnant" increases?

Hi Teacake, you don't mind me calling you Teacake do you? I like it.
I met with M. (not P.) a few weeks ago and she was great. She said some couples return for counselling 2 years after treatment so I think it will still be valid for you.

Did you see my message for you on the other thread? I can't recall if you have an early scan booked. If not, you should phone your local hospital's Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit to get one. That's what my FS said to do if it happened naturally.

I'm going mad I think. I can't stop poas and freaking myself out. There's two camps on the poas constantly on the internet- the first being that if the lines aren't getting darker you're doomed and the second being that the tests aren't that accurate- they'll give a bfp or bfn answer, can't really be used to see if anything is going wrong only when it's gone wrong and to step away from the tests...

My tests aren't getting darker. Rational me knows the second answer is right but ttc for nearly 3 years me is totally freaking out....

Stoppit! If you must test give yourself a time each day, and prepare the same if you want to compare. So maybe in the morning with FMU, or perhaps in the afternoon after lunch, but 1 hour after a cup of tea.

Remember continual testing won't change anything, other than drive you crazy. Today you are pregnant. Enjoy it! If tomorrow you aren't, then deal with that tomorrow. I'm sure one of my rubbishy affirmation things emphasizes taking one day at a time, which I think is good advice.

Maybe have a glass of wine to relax... oh.. d'oh!! :rotfl:

Hey TCOD try not to worry about the tests I have read about something called the "hook effect" which is where at a certain point in your pregnancy (usually from 7-8 weeks ish onwards) your HCG is so high and of a different type that it "confuses" the test antibody strip causing it to appear lighter. I stopped testing after my 3+ digi at 5 weeks for that very reason I knew if it happened to me I would get myself in a panic!

Here is a paragraph from an article I found about it

The Hook Effect In Pregnancy Tests

The Hook Effect is essentially when the test antibodies are overwhelmed by the introduced antigen and are unable to bind to the antibodies.

To make this easier to understand, and to apply it's relevance to testing for pregnancy, basically what this means is that the Hook Effect occurs when the levels of HCG are so high in a pregnant women, that they can not be bound to the test antibodies and therefore the test is unable to process effectively.

The levels of HCG need to be extremely high for this to occur and this can happen between 8-10 weeks, or earlier in multiples pregnancies, before the HCG begins to level out again later in pregnancy.

When the Hook Effect occurs, you will get either a very faint positive on a pregnancy test, despite having darker positive lines previously, or you may get a complete false negative with no line what so ever. The test just hasn't been able to deal with the high levels of HCG and is giving you false results.

I hope that helps! Also remember that you have seen the heartbeat which reduces your chances of anything going wrong exponentially.

Statistics were my friend throughout this pregnancy I think I would have gone insane without them!

Tacod- my lines didn't get much darker, especially on the ICs as actually there's only so much dye in them and some has to go to the control line

Did I see you'd had a reassurance scan and seen a heartbeat? That's the real test, your chances of a successful pregnancy have now shot up dramatically :)

Please take Google theories with a pinch of salt- no one has any real idea why most early mc happen and what it's connected to. People can say lines getting darker is a good or bad thing but no one actually knows for your pregnancy. They can say certain symptoms are a good or bad thing but no one actually knows for your pregnancy. My fingers and toes are crossed for you all but what will be will be x

  • It's lovely to see so many new comers to the thread, especially ladies who have been waiting for this for so long :D

Those of you taking progesterone, is that the horrible waxy pessaries?
i am really not enjoying those, but have to stick with them until I am 26 weeks. I have to admit I have missed a few because the idea of using them and the waxy discharge (sorry!) makes me feel physically sick.

I had the worst pain in my tummy today, it was like the cramp you get in a leg or something, but in my stomach muscles. It was especially not funny as I was training a group of people who don't know I am pregnant, and I had to leave the room because it was that painful!

This! I get this if I overdo things a bit or move suddenly and it's so totally agonising! For me its either down one side of my tummy or in a line across. My midwife said it's just things growing and stretching but I had no idea that it could happen! There are so many symptoms nobody ever talks about!

Hi any name, yes it's the same thing. I found I had a discharge if I used then v-ally but no discharge r-ally. I was also advised to lay down from 20 mins after taking it but another hospital advises moving around.

As for pregnancy tests - I've done 2 (Friday and Saturday) and I'm not going to do anymore.

So excited and happy for Peonie, TACOD, WTTN and T2D! :j Really looking forward to following your journeys on here and beyond! :D

Re the constant testing: I don't know about the whole lines getting darker thing but I took great comfort in using CB Digis for the first few weeks, seeing the numbers go up when I couldn't really feel much else happening was lovely. Expensive, but worth it! ;)

I'm taking progesterone too. I've not had a problem with it - via the back. No leaking or anything. I think I'm to take it for 12 weeks.
