Hi all, just wondered if anyone would could shed some light on this. I went to the midwife yesterday for bloods etc and while I was there she made an appointment for me to have 'something' done at the hospital when I am about 14 (?) weeks I think it was. It doesn't tally with the lucozade test (time wise) and last time that was done at the MW office not the hospital. I did try asking what it was for but the MW was so full of a cold and sneezing everywhere I was desperate to leave! I don't remember doing anything like this for my last pregnancy. Does anyone know what it could be? She did say to take a book and sandwich and stay sitting down for a while afterwards.

It does sound a bit like the GTT ? Not normally anything done at that point.
  • We've been thinking about antenatal classes recently as I read somewhere that they can get booked up quite a way in advance. Is anyone else planning to pay to do the NCT one? I didn't realise how expensive it was until I started looking into it properly... Or how long some of the sessions are. I like the idea of using it as a way to meet other couples in our area and we are planning to breastfeed etc which is very much their thing... Just can't decide whether it's worth all that money...?
  • Downhillfast - we didnt do the nct classes with our first I think the price put us off. I did do daisy birthing classes which I found very useful. Went to the nhs antenatal classes which i didn't find that helpful, I dont think we will attend this time around. Breastfeeding wise there is lots of support locally here, get your partner to ask her midwife what support there is. With my first I attended an nhs breastfeeding class before birth then received support after birth from hospital drop in and breastfeeding cafes.

We didn't do NCT just a one day nhs course but to be honest I didn't learn that much as had done a lot of reading myself.

I did attend a breastfeeding workshop on the nhs as well which i did find really helpful.

My friends who did NCT found it great for the social element but average for the other stuff. If you want it to meet people then i think its a good idea.
  • I definitely think we need to do some sort of class for the social aspect if nothing else. I work away from home and we live a long way from most family members so I'm a bit concerned about DW feeling overwhelmed and lonely during her maternity leave. The thought of having a network of people in our area in the same position is quite reassuring.

Sounds a good idea in that case!

I knew no-one in my area before i had my daughter but have made some good friends that i met at baby groups. I forced myself to go and was good not to feel alone. Is good to have a support network.

Went to have my flu jab at work today but on the leaflet it said can't have if in 1st trimester. Weird as on the nhs website it says can have at any stage.
