  • Missymoo, we're not going to find out. We would like a surprise but also we know too many people who have been told one thing only to find out (at the birth) that it's the other!!! With one couple, they had completely gone overboard with blue nursery, blue accessories, blue everything..... everyone was in shock when their daughter arrived and they struggled to bond with her.
[I'm not saying people shouldn't find out, so I hope I don't offend or upset anyone, just that that's our personal opinion / experience]

With my last i read up on the nub theory and luckily had a really clear scan and was telling everyone i think its a girl. Her head shaped seemed to fit as well. They confirmed it was at 20 weeks scan.

I have 2 girls and a boy already so happy as long as its healthy.

The dizziness has eased off thankfully. Still tired but not so bone-crushing exhausted.

I am taking the folic acid and multivitamins i think its seven seas its the purple packed and has ginger. I actually feel better after taking them.
  • See I'm the same as you ladies and I want to leave it a surprise, I love seeing on OBEM etc when they say you've got a beautiful girl/boy and I can't wait for my own moment of that :p Someone said to me that they could get the sex of a girl wrong but if they say boy its a definite... but then that can't be true either based on your story Aunty! Maysie - I'm intrigued by this nub theory! I will be off in a moment to have a read and do some research :)

As for the clothes, yes I agree Princess that we will get lots of gifts as soon as others know the sex, so no that's not a worry. And after saying that there's not much gender-neutral clothing out there, I just popped in Sainsbury's today and they had some gorgeous little outfits! I think it will just be a case of buying when we see them but we'll have to put a limit to how much we buy, as I know a lot of people who have bought so many items and they never even took the tags off some of them!

I have to say, I think I actually prefer the neutral baby rooms decorated in creams and browns with little bits of colour here and there, but knowing OH he'll want to paint at least one wall blue or pink! We live in a new build so already have natural walls and carpet that I'm not planning on decorating, just accessorising when the time comes.

    DevilDolly- Congrats, and welcome!
Downhill- You're welcome. I hope the spray works better for your DW than the tablets!
Jedi- An early scan at the private place is £50, but they give you £25 off another package if you upgrade afterwards.

Re- Finding out, I think we will find out again. I'm not too bothered either way about what we have, but i like to prepare, and we are planning to get a 4d scan later on, which will help confirm the NHS verdict!
Missymoo, we are planning the same, neutral colour walls in our new build, and just accessories. I have a lovely muted colour jungle set that we ended up not using last time as we had n't moved in time!

I also started taking the Seven Seas instead of Pregnacare as I read that some of the pregnancy vits can actually worsen or even be the cause of constipation - some of you may remember my issues a little while ago :o I had the Seven Seas as I bought them for future use but thought I'd give swapping a go. Well since taking the Seven Seas everything down there seems a lot better, so I'll carry on taking them for the near future. Can't say its definitely the vits that did the trick, but it seemed very coincidental! I still have a few months left of Pregnacare, so I may just have to alternate every couple of days so I don't waste them as they're expensive.

I've also heard from others about the ginger in them helping their morning sickness, but I can't agree or disagree with that as luckily I've not experienced any sickness at all.

Kira - wow you are lucky that you live an area that offers a private scan for £50, mine was £99! Granted we didn't research the prices too well so may have found it slightly cheaper, but that's about the norm for where we are (North London/Herts/Beds)

OH and I both want to have a 4D scan too - will it be obvious to see the sex of a baby on there even if we don't actually want to know!? That may be a ridiculous question so I'm sorry in advance, but as you can probably tell I'm new to all this :):o

When we had our 4d last time, the sonographer asked if we wanted to know. I guess if you say no, they will try and avoid zero-ing in on the appropriate bits! If you go later in your PG, (our last scan was at 32w) then Baby is quite squished up, and you are less likely to be able to see much other than the face.

  • RE:Gender of Baby

No we wont be finding out until the birth. to me it feels so anti climatic to find out over a scan. And i have zero preference either way as long as baby is healthy, OH feels exactly the same. I dont like the whole blue for boy and pink for girls thing either so i dont think i need to know before hand to "prepare" for anything.

    RE: Nursey colour scheme

To start with baby will have no choice. We only decorated the room 9 months ago and i really dont want to do it again and we had to stick to a pink theme due to feature in the room when we started. So if its a boy or a girl, for the first year at least they will have a cream with a small bit of pink room. The baby isnt going to care what cvolour it is and i think i will prefer to decorate it again once they are a bit older and there getting their first bed etc.

For a private scan round here people use the beard mill clinic its supposed to be the best and run by a doctor but its £120 for a scan at this stage. Flipping oxfordshire! just over 3 weeks to go for scan now so i can hold out.
  • Re finding out the gender, we didnt with our first and I dont want to with this one but dh has mentioned he wants to. A girl is desperately wanted by my mum who has 4 grandsons and mil would be over the moon if we had a girl as she had two of her own sons and our boy is her only grandchild. Sounds silly but I am a bit worried about having a girl as I hate pink lol. Generally I am happy with either gender.

in terms of decorating a room stickers are great, we had a rainbow stickers for our boy up until recently when dh brought loads of dinosaur stickers.

  • We won't be finding out what were having unless it is painfully obvious on the next scan lol we decided it would be nicer to have the surprise at the end and I have no issue buying neutral colours at all :) xxx
