Wow 27+1 whes the time gone? I keep expecting g af to come as the only thing I ever have that looks like a cycle is after fertility treatment. I'm pretty sure I've only ever ov 4 times in my life on treatment that is and one for them I somehow got pg on.i always knew the odds were so hugely against me ever getting pg that despite trying I accepted it wasn't realistically going to happen for us.

Also maybe tmi but has anyone been really gassy and bloated?

    *delurking*

Great results - so glad to hear it's very unlikely to be ectopic.

Re your tmi questions - the answer is yes, a lot in the first trimester and a fair amount in the second. There were not a few of us rolling aorund with sore tummies. Also a common symptom was diarrhoea for a few people just so you know!

I second tcod - emily oster is a reassuring read and very informative if a bit chatty. Also on the pg not being a great ride. So hopeful and excited about having a baby but the actual process, particularly in the early days of feeling rubbish (tired and nauseous), hormonal surges, dodgy skin and bowels and all wihtout knowing if it is going to turn out alright or having any proof was horrendous. I went to my 12 week scan convinced they were going to section me for being a crazy non pg lady. It has got easier once I started to feel better and feel movement which wasn't until 19+4 in terms of movement. Feeling better started around 15 weeks but boy do I still get bad days...

Oh and the wait SUCKS to find out if things are ok. PS I think some scan ladies can be a bit rude. Pay no attention and focus on the screen and OH. Mine ladies were all fine but it can be a bit of a lottery it seems.

Lilmiss is good to hear I'm not the only one with a dodgy tummy.im at the end of weaning my self off my anti depressants and feel pretty emotional.im back for another scan next week, I'm still sure I can't possibly be pg.i go to all appts on my own unless dh has to be there and being pg won't really change much.oh and I can't wait for sleep.

Yeah there are many things pg is but glamerous ain't one of them! I wasn't depressed pre pg and my hormones took me on a rollercoaster so have a think if you are not going to be on them how you are going to look after yourself. The advantage of being depressed in the past is that you will be a better judge of what it feels like so you can act promptly.

There are a growing number of NHS trusts that now commission special fast track services for pg ladies so you can discuss this with your GP and maybe see if they offer counselling/CBT? Otherwise a service called IAPT - Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies is nationwide although local services may have adopted their own name. They are primary care and many accept self referrals as well as GP ones. Apologies if you already know of or are thinking of this.

Oh and the exhaustion? I did NOTHING at the weekend for about 4 months. Weekday evenings consisted of returning home and either napping, eating, back asleep by 8pm or having to go straight to dinner and sleep. Having loved cooking DH was in charge of all our meals which was terrifying for us both. I had no interest in doing anything other than sleeping. I went from reading a book a week to not having finished one this year yet! I also ate pretty unhealthily in the first trimester as I all I wanted was starchy carbs - white bread, breaded anything, chips, onion rings, cheese, supernoodles - you name it, if it was bland and unhealthy it was on the plate and in my belly...no cravings as such though.

If you think of any other symptoms that you weren't expecting any of you - just share! It's surprising what is common but not talked about like dodgy tummies! I've had many surprises! Also, don't worry or feel guilty if you don't feel filled with the joys of pg - the end result is amazing and miraculous (hopefully) but I found the journey tests your emotional sanity and patience.

Hello all - dipping my toe into this unknown land of pregnancy! I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow and do indeed feel like its all surreal and pretend, lol! My symptoms so far include being bloated and gassy and boobs feel weird - both of which could easily be PMT but I'm a week late tomorrow and have had 3 positive pregnancy tests so hopefully I'm not making it all up!

Congrats Nicky! I must confess in case it is confusing that I am a naughty lurker at 23 weeks now but I found further on ladies could be very helpful with sharing what it was like for them as so much was a surprise/mystery to me.

I had lumpy boobs at one point and they got very heavy, not mention ridiciously sensitive! There is a list somewhere further back if you'd like to add oyurself too it but not everyone feels ready to do that.

Right must stop interfering (but it's so hard...)

Nicky welcome I've just joined aswell.

Lilmiss I'm not really to sure about the depression side of things as I've spent most of my life on anti depressants.i had to change GP's receintly and found its so hard to get an appt and when you do there not very understanding.im going to call them again tommorow to try and get an appt to see about this water infection, didn't get anywhere at the hosptial today about it.i will also seeabout being refered to a hosp rather then the epau.
  • PM- as part of your booking in appt they'll go through mental health etc so you should be able to get mw to access services for you if your GP is a pita! There are anti-depressants that are ok for use in pregnancy. I was on prozac (fluoxetine) last year as my GP knew I was ttc/ potentially having IVF and it was a tablet I could continue to take during pregnancy. I ended up coming off it cold turkey as I was a bit crazy at the time (NOT recommended to anyone!). Definitely push to see your GP before your booking in though as they may be able to put you on appropriate meds.

Most pregnancies before 12 weeks have to go through EPAU rather than hospital clinics etc. I was a known high risk pregnancy, with the fertility unit and as soon as I got my BFP they referred me to EPAU and wouldn't see me. Didn't get seen in clinics until after 12 weeks (for cevical length scans and to discuss risk etc.). It seems like the longest 12 weeks of your life but imo the EPAU is the best place for you as unfortunately there is very little the hospital clinics can do for you prior to 12 weeks. All of the signs you have so far (HCG etc. ) are really promising and it's good that you have an early scan in a couple of weeks- just look after yourself, take your pre-natal vits (folic acid and vit D are recommended), eat well (though like lilmiss if it was beige and stodgy I'd eat it- anything remotely healthy was not for me!) and... I'll say it.... Relax! As much as you can. Seriously- the hormones during the first trimester drove me mad. The fear, worry and stress was insane but it's totally natural- it's something you've wanted for so long that obviously you're going to worry- and that's without trying to come off your meds! Take care of yourself as that is what your little baby needs you to do. Xxx

Evening all, can i tentatively join this thread too please, got my BFP last week.

I picked up my pregnancy pack from the doctors, I don't know when to ring to book the first booking appointment with the midwives although if they don't see you until 8+ weeks I guess there is plenty of time. I know it varies by area but does anyone know how far in advance you should ring?

I'm glad I'm not the only one with cramps and bloatedness. The cramps can be a little painful but then pass quickly. I guess that's normal. Although before I got the BFP I had nothing, so I feel like it's psychological!

The last 4 days have gone so slowly, I don't know how I'm going to cope until the scan! How silly does that sound.

In the preg pack there is a whole booklet of maternity notes which I'm guessing gets filled in as you go, but have to admit I was slightly concerned about the mental health questions asked etc... I really don't want to say I've had depression issues in the past as it says I will be referred to the GP for the appropriate care pathway. I don't think it's necessary IMO but I suppose they think it will be.

Tcod opps I know what coming off cold turkey is like, not fun at all. I started my ad life on Prozac but didn't find it very helpful.i then went back on it when I went on clomid but found my way back into the ones I'm on now.gp's can be really hit and miss with mh issues I've found.

I'm on pg vits with vit d. We had chicken with whole grain rice for dinner but I seem to have the munches for sweet stuff.im trying to not stress but so much easier said than done.
