Caffeine is causing me problems already so that's going to be interesting at work, as we always make drinks for everyone. I think I'm going to volunteer to make tea a lot, and sneak a decaff teabag in mine! I'll need to tell work quite soon, but will leave it a week or so.
Congrats Bluebell! I am 5 weeks todayI tested positive using first response tests on 2nd & 3rd Jan and then again using a Cearblue digital test on Sunday 5th.... seems like ages ago already. Due date is 15th Sept.
I have gone back to work using the excuse of the New Year to cut Caffeine (replaced with decaf and fruit teas), Coca cola and all other rubbish.
I have had no symptoms at all yet and really want to hold off telling work until 12 weeks.0 -
It's so hard deciding when to tell everyone and especially work. I've been tempted to mention it so many times when I'm having a bad day, just to go some way to explaining why I'm being a little bit rubbish, but I've not yet plucked up the courage.
So...10+5 today and after my loss of symptoms...a day of rotten nausea and bloating. Never thought I would be pleased to see it back!0 -
I am wondering whether to tell my manager tomorrow as I have a 1-1 meeting with her. I know she will be incredibly supportive- she has been throughout all my pregnancies and miscarriages, but as she will consider me to be high risk, I am worried she will make a big thing about restricting my work activities.
On the plus side, it will make it a lot easier to get time off for appointments!0 -
It's really hard deciding when to tell work/the wider world, isn't it??
I've ended up telling both my employers this week - far earlier than I'd ideally want given that I'm only 7-8 weeks gone. In an ideal world, I would have announced it to everyone at 12 weeks after the scan. But given the circumstances of my absence last week, I felt it was fair they know - especially if *touch wood* such bleeding/scares happen again and I need to leave work suddenly. As any name will suffice said, it makes getting time off for appointments a lot easier too!! Also, I work in schools with small children, so they have already put risk assessments in place and limited my duties (no heavy lifting, no climbing ladders, no approaching/addressing situations involving distressed children, etc). There's also the matter of being exposed to illnesses such as measles and slap cheek, so if I need to steer clear for the safety of my unborn baby, at least they know and understand.
I don't particularly like people knowing this early on, seems like tempting fate, but it is a weight off the shoulders knowing that they're looking out for me and understand things.

I told my boss today, who was really happy and excited for me! I had been hoping to leave it but with the possibility of extra bp checks it seemed like a good idea to say something now. I also work with chemicals so will have to be careful about exposure etc.
I'm quite jealous of those of you with no symptoms! I was pretty much fine with DS, just a funny taste in my mouth and wanting to eat lemony foods all the time. In fact I spent most of the pg working full time then renovating the house in the evenings - plastering, painting etc. This time around I'm feeling much worse - nauseous on and off, and just burst into tears because DS's two plastic beakers fell over when I was washing up. Felt a complete fool but couldn't help it. Hormones, bah. Hubby reckons it must be a girl this time.0 -
Hi all
Hope you are well?
Bluebell - so glad your boss was happy and excited for you, it's lovely to hear. I think my boss will be ok about it when I tell him but equally, will be frustrated too - he's always commenting on "other PA's going off all the time to have babies" - so I raised it with him months ago and said "and where does that leave me as you clearly have a problem with it" - to which he replied "oh if it's you, it's fine".
In fact, make you giggle - early last year, I had to have some scans on my feet (pain in right foot) - so told boss I was at the hospital and must have mentioned it was for a scan but thought no more of it until the following week, when he asked when I was going off on maternity leave. I said I wasn't and he said I must be as I'd gone for a scan and he'd told his wife and daughters that I was expecting and they were delighted for me - told him he had to "undo" that conversation! :rotfl:
Any name will suffice - good luck if you do tell your boss today - I agree with you that it will make getting time off for appts more easy.
Derby2 - sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish but equally, I know what you mean about being pleased it's back though.
AFM - currently 8+2 and I've got our first midwife appt this morning at 11.15am - so worried about it to be honest as I really don't feel pregnant at all but did another test on Saturday (I know it's stupid) but the lines were darker than last time so in my mind, that means the HCG levels are increasing so something is still happening.
Will let you know how I get on later.
Hugs to you all
Gelly

Gelly that was my theory on done another test to see the lines appear darker!
Hope your appointment went well with the midwife!
I have felt so sick since I brushed my teeth before I left for work this morning. I was wretching just before lunch time.
But strangely I have felt starving all day! I have eaten like a horse!
It is such a weird feeling - feeling sick & hungry at the same time!!0 -
Hi Credit - hahah, it's mad how our minds work isn't it!
Not good that you are feeling sick since brushing your teeth - really hope it goes again soon.
I've had another "funny" with the boss this pm - he's been in meetings all day so I text him this morning to say I was off to the doctors and would be back ASAP.
Got a text from him about 45 mins ago asking "Did he give you the good news" - to which I replied "who?", he replied "Doctor" and I replied saying "I went to see him about my skin problem that's come back - very scabby at the mo" - he's replied with "Ummm, never mind, we wait!!!"
So - he's sussed hasn't he! I haven't mentioned anything at all, not told our parents yet - plan to tomorrow night.
I do clearly have a whopping great big cold sore on my lip / chin at the moment and it's the second one since Christmas so it's not like he won't have noticed them but both HB & I reckon he's sussed with the frequency of my toilet visits - I could probably relocate my desk to the ladies toilets at the moment :rotfl:
Think I'll have to tell him on Fri - was hoping to hold out for another week or so.
PS - Midwife appt was fine - lots of questions, height, weight, blood pressure, blood test, family histories, our histories and that's about it - see her at 16 weeks and wait for blood results to come back in about 2 weeks and for scan date - in and out in about 45 mins which was good.

Not sure about your boss, but mine asks every time I go to the docs if the pregnancy test was positive?! His way of a joke...
He also asks how the job interview went if I have a days holiday.0 -
Not a good day, I was very nearly sick in the street walking the dog this morning, the dog looked a bit bemused- being sick is a regular occurance for him!
And I have been bleeding today- it started off with a smear this morning on the loo paper, but I had to use a sanitary towel by lunch time- good job I always carry spare pants with me!!!
I tried ringing the community midwife advice line, but there is no answer and no option to leave a message. I think I will see what happens over night, go to a&e if it gets heavy, and if not call the epu or midwife in the morning.
That's if they will let me have an NHS scan this time- I don't want to pay privately again because if there is a problem they can't refer me back to the NHS anyway.
I am trying to think positive that it's the pessaries I am using, but with my track record it's hard0
