I was taught in first aid that you should never leave a heavily pregnant woman flat on her back as when the baby is big it can compress a large artery going down to her legs on the right side. What we should do is raise the right hip slightly, perhaps by placing a scrunched up coat under there, to ease the pressure. Lump left was the phrase to remember. Therefore if you place a pillow under your hip or sleep propped up slightly you should be fine, also being asleep is not unconsciousness so I bet your body will wake you if it's not happy in a position. Although follow whatever medical professionals tell you.
I'm 36+2 and I think I lost some mucus plug last night! There was also a very very small brown ball in it that looked like old blood, is that enough to be a bloody show? Also I had period pains this morning. I'm trying not to panic and think this means labour is imminent but what do you ladies think? I've been expecting to go overdue and baby isn't even engaged.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Thanks all. I think I'll definitely stay away from sleeping on my back, will try to prop myself up with a couple of pillows instead and see how it goes!!
Kynthia ooh that's rather exciting, and probably a little terrifying at the same time!! I haven't ever done labour before so I can't advise, but I guess if you phoned your midwife unit and explained the symptoms they could tell you if it sounds like the start of things beginning to happen?
I have though heard other ladies on here saying their mucus plug took over a week to come out before the real stuff started happening, so don't panic!! Hugs!!Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

As baby isn't engaged I've hopefully got time, and I've heard it can re-grow. I'll finish off my hospital bag incase tomorrow, plus start taking EPO and RLT capsules. We're hopefully exchanging on the house tomorrow, even though I'm very unhappy at completing at 39 weeks. However at least I'll know the house is mine once we exchange and I couldn't handle losing it now. Scary to think that baby could come beforehand though!!!Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Regarding wraps/carriers etc - I have a (Moby) wrap that I love. I tried a few carriers at a baby show though to see what would suit me and my circumstances (I spend time in a wheelchair and a lot of sitting down etc means your want different things from it- buckles and knots need to not be in annoying and uncomfortable places etc) and we found the wrap style the best. I bought one that arrived last week and I've already used it twice. They're not as daunting as people make out and YouTube videos are great for showing you how to tie them if you can't get a real life person to help
I never did get round to posting my birth story, I've just realised, but if anyone wants to hear about it, let me know and I'll try and make the effort tomorrow
I can't believe my baby boy is here (currently munching away, the little feed monster!) and almost 3 weeks old!

Talking of carriers we have one for bf to use, as he won't be able to push the pram and his wheelchair at the same time we got him a chest carrier from kiddicare so baby will essentially be sat on his lap but strapped on. My dad never used one with me - as I was small (apparently I used to fit in just one of his hands) he would pull the hip cords in on his coats then snuggle me inside and go around like he was a kangaroo and I was his joey with my face poking out!
Bf can't wait to wear baby which is cute, he'll be able to wear her down to the car the pop her in the car seat then just take her from the seat back to the carrier when they get anyway :-)
Car seat wise we only had one stage 1+ to choose from as it needs to be able to turn a minimum of 90degrees. We thought there would be more available for parents in our position but nope(!) It was the maxicosi axis or nothing. Luckily Britax have just brought a new one out, the dual fix, which can turn 360 degrees and is suitable from birth to four years and can be rear facing as long as possible! That said the axiss is a little shy of £200 and the dual fix is £340 full price. We have a newborn car seat so there's no huge rush but we would like to get it sorted. Both are heavy, the axiss is secured with the seat belt but the dual fix has a built in isofix base (can't lift it off the base it's all in one unit) and whichever we get we need to be happy/able to lift it out minimum once a month (and put it back!) When bf has training camps/trips.
I am finally close to being able to afford to learn to drive again! Which is a major positive for me with bf away so much and for work (generally as well as possible leverage to adapt my role). We've also found a great deal on a new car which I could definitely afford on my own, all very exciting as it will give me a lot more options for keeping me and baby busy plus keep some mileage off bfs motability car! Hehe
Trying to start thinking in finance mode ready for budgeting with an adapted income. I know we will get child benefit to the tune of £20 per week which I plan to use for anything bubs needs and then we should get child tax credits but I don't know how much that is or when they kick in :-S and I can't find any decent info online
We had our 3d scan yesterday - very odd experience. Glad we got a cheap group on voucher rather than paying pull price though. I was nervous about what we may see but it was nice to get a little idea and see her again before the due date. Plus in a couple of frames she looked really similar to our 15month old neice which made mil chuckle. It was also the first time my parents met mil, I was a little nervous about that as mil is a strong character and has a habit of blabbering away. My dad can hold his own but mum gets very quiet and spoken over easily and I could see that happening a bit. We ended up giving mil a lift which whilst I didn't mind then made it awkward to spend any time afterwards with my parents so we ended up going our separate ways straight away after :-( we only got two prints and then a CD of all the images so I'm going to get some more printed today/tomorrow :-)************************************

I'd like to read your birth story BZ! I'm also waiting on a name and photo of the little man!
Sleeping on your back - I know you *shouldn't* but I often do find that I've rolled over onto my back and since I'm not having any issues it's not worrying me too much.
No idea about the plug Kynthia, I haven't had any show at all yet!
At least the 3D scan was on a special deal Lush! Good that your parents met MIL before the birth though.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I'm looking into the perfect prep machine as it's on offer on Amazon however I want to try breastfeeding so think I will hang off.
What is the current advice reg bottle feeding ? Is it make one at a time and don't store ANY in fridge even for an hour or so ? As if that's the case then perfect prep definately seems a good idea. However I am sure most mums I know usually have a bottle or two in their changing bags so wondering if they are just avoiding the advice or if I am missing something ??
I know with my neices my SIL usually had 1-2 in the fridge ready made. They are 5 and 10 though so advice may have changed since or she just done it her own way.0 -
Zippy please post your birth story!
Lush thats great you can start learning to drive, I think I'd go mad if I couldn't! You'll be able to go to so many places when the baby becomes a toddler without the hassle of public transport - which now I don't commute to work by train anymore I avoid at all costs lol! Really pleased you said you were getting that voucher (forgot it's name) to spend on baby stuff was it the sure start grant or something as those car seats are very expensive!
Some of the stuff I've ordered for the nursery has been dispatched so hoping in a few days the room will start to take shape!0 -
