Heading for a sanction

Need to find 6 jobs to apply for before Thursday, UJ has added 1 job in the last 3 days, Indeed = nowt, Reed = nowt, Local Rag = nowt and have done the physically handing in CV's to every place in my locale.
'Veterans' here have stated that jobs are thin on the ground at this time of year but don't think the JC will see it that way.

    Do speculative applications count?

What are the areas that you are looking for?

    speculative ?
  • Yes, speculative applications could be your answer - basically sending a CV and a supporting letter asking firms if they have any vacancies in your field and if not can they bear you in mind if something comes up. Good luck, claiming JSA is no easy option, and it shouldn't be, but sometimes it looks positively punitive.

Get a copy of the yellow pages, turn to a category that would use someone in the area you are seeking work for. (So, if you are a waiter a restaurants you haven't applied to yet)

    Find six companies.

Write them each a short cover letter, and send them a CV. You can post it or email it, doesn't matter as long as you keep proof you sent it to them.

    That's a speculative application.

its not counted as a job. If you are looking for work you shouldnt get a sanction. If they get funny say thats all there was available to apply for. Make them prove you havent looked for work if they get arsy.

Yes, that is what was worrying me, there technically isn't a vacancy to apply for so how would the JC see it.
  • I've applied for anything - even higher up positions I know I've no chance, also signing up to new job sites and re-vamping CV so will argue that I have been doing something constructive

There are almost half a million jobs on the job centre website. Including over 3000 that have been added today. You can't find another 6 that you could apply for? Perhaps you need to widen your search.

With respect you need to need to speak to the Jobcentre as yours could be different to mine, isn't it also said we 'Veterans' know nothing. You may be worried over nothing :)
