Downloaded whatsApp and discovered alot of charges relating to text messages, why?

WOW - you make a balls-up by electing to send international texts, from an app that is totally unrelated to TMobile - and you get Tmob to reimburse you.
I don't know whether to pity you or congratulate you.
If it ever makes anyone wonder why genuine complaints get queried and scrutinised so much - I would advise reading the OP's last threads in this forum.
no one has "balls up" as you put it. also, please do not be personal.Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -

And in 1 years time you will have to pay for it! You get 12 months free then have to pay for either 1 year, 3 or 5. 5 years tends to work out cheaper, I've just paid for that & it cost £2.59, which isnothing really.
So also remember that!0 -

Genuine problem?! No it wasn't. You were using an app without knowing what you were doing.
No-one has abused any system....erm...YOU HAVE! You spent the money, so you should pay for it. There is absolutely no reason why tmobile should have refunded you. Whatsapp has got absolutely nothing to do with tmobile. When you "tell a friend" about whatsapp, you even have to tell it which application to use to do this. You have chosen your messaging app, and selected your recipients phone number from your contacts. This sends them a text, and you can see in the text box what it is that the recipient is going to see.
You really should be congratulated for blagging a refund! Why didn't you try to get them to pay your gas bill while you were at it:T0 -

Thanks trinidadone, I have whatsapp but have hardly used it, I for one didn't realise I could incur charges by recommending someone0

How is this not clear that you are sending a message via text, are you suggesting it should say TEXT before the message option?

It's fairly obvious when you actually go through it. I've just tried it with the Android version - apart from actually sending the text!
You have to choose the app that you want to send the text with - ie message or in my case handcent sms. You're then in your normal text messaging app where you have to then go and choose who you want to send the text to. It would be pretty obvious you were sending it to someone abroad as you obviously know where your "friend" lives.
