Rubbish quality football shirts - vent!

Options
Well my 13yo wanted the Arsenal away shirt for Christmas with his name on the back. It was all he wanted, if he got nothing else he would have been happy.

The shirt cost me just under £50 with the lettering. He has worn it continuously since Christmas Day - it hasnt even been washed yet - and it is covered in pulls and snags.

Its disgusting that Arsenal sell these shirts at this price anyway, and they arent even decent quality. I am going to try and find an email address at Arsenal to complain but I dont suppose I will get very far.

I had to save up to buy that shirt and every time I look at it it makes me so angry!!

In the words of Eric Morecambe "What do you think of it so far? Arsenal!"

You can contact Arsenal Direct by any of the following methods :
    Email: arsenaldirect@arsenal.co.uk
    Telephone: 0207 619 5000 Monday-Friday, 9.30am-5pm

  • Well, I e-mailed Arsenal - and to be fair to them they have already replied and said that if I return the shirt with proof that I bought it from the Arsenal shop they will look at it.

This is a problem because firstly I didnt buy it directly from Arsenal, I bought it from another sports shop. It is a genuine Arsenal shirt, but I know that under the sale of goods act my contract is with the shop I bought it from. Secondly it was my sons main Christmas present and he doesnt want to part with it!

I know that the golden rule of complaining is to be clear about the outcome that you want but in this case I am not really sure! In any case I cant see the point in sending it back and getting another shirt because they are all going to be the same. My son would rather have the shirt covered in pulls than not have it at all.

I would love to know if anyone else has had the same issue though.

I think you've now answered your own question, there's little point in going any further with this. The main thing is your son is delighted with the shirt, and that's all that really matters.

But I really think you should encourage your son to support another team, say one from Leeds or Sheffield or Huddersfield or Barnsley or Bradford.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • I'm a "Yorkshire lass" who supports Arsenal too! (and I also have shirts in good condition)

Town (Huddersfield of course!) are my "local" team who I'll go watch (too poor to see Arsenal matches)

Yeah you are right, he loves the shirt and thats what matters. I hadnt really thought of it like that.

We have a family full of Leeds supporters - not sure how he ended up liking Arsenal. He met up with his cousin yesterday who was wearing his lovely new Leeds shirt which is much thicker material and no pulls!! Oh and we do have quite a collection of Arsenal shirts now and not had a problem before.

And just in case anyone was wondering - I have made him remove it now and put it in the wash before it walks into the laundry basket on its own!!! Just hope the lettering doesnt come off ...
  • I'm not sure but......if you bought it from Sports Direct or alike would they not just pay a fee to Arsenal for the right to stick badges onto the same looking kit but could they use a different material?

Thus you could have two different shirts looking exactly the same but using different materials?

I must admit this has crossed my mind too - and I may yet go back to Sports Direct with the shirt and show it to them. I also wish I had asked Arsenal if the shirts that they sell on their website are exactly the same as shirts sold by other retailers.

If it's got the nike symbol on it then it's genuine. They wouldn't let their symbol be put on an inferior made shirt as it reflects badly on the brand.

All arsenal shirts* should be made from Nike and be no different no matter where you buy it.

*Although player shirts are actually differently made and are better quality.
