NSD today.
I have finally opened a bag of baby broad beans I have had in the freezer for ages with a BBE date of jan 14:eek: I will add some to the soup I am making for DH at the weekend too.
I am very organised today (it won't last;)) and have prepared the sandwich fillings and stuff for tomorrow's lunches as I am back to my old office tomorrow and have to be up earlier.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Hi Coxy, please put me down for £550 for January.
My January started on Monday with a spend of £61.29 in Mr S.
Many thanks to everyone who helps to run this thread.0 -
Having done a bigger shop than normal yesterday, today I made up a batch of diced pork chilli and the mince for cottage pie. Going to portion these up for the freezer. Over the next few days I will make up some bolognaise, beef mince chilli, beef casserole and a vegetable curry for the freezer as well. I am also going to make up a big batch of savoury flapjack for the freezer and do a storecupboard inventory. I have got loads of soup in the freezer for lunches for when I go back to work on Monday.
Hopefully be able to keep the grocery costs down over the next few months.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

Thanks to the thread organisers. I would like to aim for a budget of250 for January please.
I was £13 over in December but like most of us on here I am starting January overstocked! I am hoping to come in well under this so I can do a bulk butcher shop at the end of the month. I am also intending to start a diet so I am not sure what to do with the cheese mountain. Long dates on some unopened ones so hope to resist temptation.;)Grocery challenge: dec 294/280, January 250/250, February 168/200:T march 258/2600 -
Hi all
Had a NSD today thanks to the rain i stayed in with family rather than going out anywhere to spend money. I need to update my signature on here and keep on top of it as I got quite lazy last year. Will sort that out once i get on the laptop.
Food shopping Friday this week and need to take my cat to the vet tomorrow so ive got a feeling the next few days will become quite expensive.

I stuck out GC for the whole of 2012, but got so despondent of failing every month
But its a new year - I'm going to dare to go with the monthly budget I usually set myself back in 2012 of £200. (That's for a calendar month for 2 adults, 1 toddler and 1 cat). Hoping its doable due to lots of Xmas food left.
I'm going to need to plan more, I rarely do YS or buy bulk offers as I am a batch cooking/freezer using novice.
I have not been doing to well the last few months either..but keep it up.
I am no batch or oamc expert but here's my twopenny worth. When you cook can you double or treble the ingredients so one cottage pie becomes two or three . If you do this with stuff the family eats I think it'ss well worth it and it is not much more time consuming over a matter of weeks you have instant cheap and healthy READY MEALS.also I have a link about component cooking its years old but a great readGc 2013 +26 -5. -4 -7 -14 -15 -10.-8.20 +15p+30+5.80 Dec +9 GROCERY challenge 2014 Jan -2Feb -3 March -1.50 April +5.40 May +4.90 June -3.July 16.50/85

£2.19 spent today. OH wanted a can of (vile) energy drink, last one before his diet starts and I bought 4 seeded bread rolls for £1 when I was on my break from work but managed to leave 2 of them at my parents house (I ate the other 2
) so asked my Lil sis to chuck them in the freezer.
I have made a list of my freezer contents, will do fridges and cupboards tomorrow and make a meal plan then. Might try and do 50% meat based and 50% veggie (dd1 doesn't like meat and oh used to be a veggie "who ate bacon") so it should go down well.
