  • NSD for us yesterday, which I was pleased with because I wasn't expecting it. We went to a friend's for a little party and thought we should take some drinks with us. OH wanted to take to go and buy some beer, I suggested we take a bottle we've already got in the house instead to save some money and he suddenly decided he would drive and not drink and so we just took a bottle of schloer we've had sitting in the cupboard for months. :j
Thank you to everyone who posts on here :)
  • Hello! I'm joining this challenge with a budget of £350 for January please (2 adults, 3 children, 1 cat, 1 hamster!)

I spent £74 on NYE, and that will count in this month's spending.
  • I'd like to join this challenge please!

We have a pretty full freezer, and loads in the cupboards, so I'm going to aim for £120 for the month for two adults and two children, which doesn't include the £100 max budget for my 30th birthday party drinks and food mid month ;)

NSD for me today as eldest DD donated a lot of veg she didn't want. She never keeps anything for more than a couple of days and her or her OH will just bin it !!! but as she knows what a fruglal old bird I am it gets chucked my way I have more than enough veg (Waitrose as well ) to last me until the middle of next week at least I will be makinga vat of soup for lunches for the next few days I also had a big bag of apples given to me on NYE from my DDs in-laws as they know I will chop and freeze them.No mice in my house at all, as nothing gets thrown away if I can turn it inot a meal :):):).I even have some left over Christmas pud to use up today (also from profligate DD,Heston Blumenthals chocolate sauce one ,very yummy and it will definitely do me for todays pudding, and probably tomorros as well.)Dunno why my eldest is so wasteful, doesn't get it from me.She never used to be but as her and her OH have prospered she now seems to chuck out more than they eat, weird really as she used to be fairly good with food. My youngest DD is more like me but then she has 6 mouths to feed plus two dogs ,so nowt gets thrown in her house either.
So my purse is going to stay firmly shut for as long as I can this month and shopping will be done from the freezer and cupboards .I have made my menu's out for the coming month already and I'm pleased to see that if I can stick to them my spends will drop quite a bit and I will be able to put the surplus into my holiday account

Hi Coxy, I usually chop up the remainder of a roast into chunks and freeze in portions to add to curries/stews. I've done that with the left over lamb from xmas.

It could be quite dry once reheated if you freeze as is.

Hi Coxy - I have the same problem - not much left though so will make it into a pork and mushroom supreme thingy with rice tonight. I usually end up binning it - so this is a first - and the pork loin was absolutely delicious last night - so tasty and moist!

As it is such a beautiful day - just might take my pedometer out for a walk at 2!!!!:rotfl:

  • Done my shopping for the week but forgot gravy granules and coffee. Not urgent though! Spent £11.10 in Lidl. Caulis are 59p each so I got two and I will make cauliflower curry from them. Or I may try some cauli rice-not sure yet! Basically all fruit and veg apart from ham and natural yoghurt. Must make the casserolle with the turkey for tomorrow and @I am going to do DS some sarnies for lunch with the beef. DD will prob make herself a sald with what I've bought. I've got lots of eggs short dates so I will boil some up for sarnies and salads.
