Totally thrilled. It's a week til payday and I'm still way under budget, £289.23/£400 so over £110 left :T

Need to go shopping on Saturday but thst should be it except for milk now :)

I'm already thinking about next month and thinking I'll keep to the £400 another month. See how we do as I aim to be eating fresher food and more quality meat so the cost may go up.

I'm on £97.14/£100 and that has got to last me until Thursday. I'll be living off leftovers!

£4.87 in Lidls today, included two boxes of their 59p bran flakes, which I am obsessed with at the moment! I can't believe they are so cheap for a 500g box, plus nice and sweet and crunchy, mmmm.
Also spent 75p on a big bag of monster munch for the teeny terror at the end of soft play (free, wooohoo thanks Bassett vitamins, I have certainly caned the free voucher offers!), which acted as blackmail to get him in the car and stop him from fighting to get into the carseat. My tired pregnant belly just can't deal with the constant carseat traumas at the moment!
Called past my mums and she gave me a nice chunk of local beef that she cut off from a bigger joint, as they'll never use it all. That's a lovely roast sorted out at some point this weekend.
I really need to try and stick to the last of my grocery budget for next week, due to it being a really skint week. I can manage without buying any meat (might get some sausages as DD has requested a sausage casserole). Fruit, veg, cheese, eggs, milk and bread are our staples though and they soon add up for a family of 5, even with shopping at Lidls!

Fancied a bacon sarnie and went in chest freezer for some bacon bits, discovered I had dumped three 1k packs still in carrier bag in there.
I usually portion these up before freezing. Remembered then that I did this Christmas eve as no room in fridge, intending to portion up later that afternoon. Totally forgot.

Now I have given myself the task of struggling to portion up a frozen 1kg pack.

Forgot to post yesterday, lost receipt, but spent £9 sommit, so will add a tenner to sig - was for my teaboat contribution, not sprictly food budget, but I don,t have a special 'pot' for that type of thing.
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • Thought it was going to be a NSD as no car but didn't get round to making bread for garlic bread so called at local shop on way back from walking to collect train tickets at station then onto dd school, spent £1.80 on 2 garlic baguettes (£1) and 2 cad caramel bars 2 for 80p! so not too bad on budget.

Recipes I have looked into making at the weekend (no ingredients required):
lemon meringue pie to use up lemon curd
    chocolate / ginger muffins
    some oatie/fruity/nutty cookies
sweet and salty roasted mixed nut (dd shelled all the remaining Xmas nuts)
Turkey mince lasagna - I will make my own pasta as its yummy:D

Also, need to do a freezer inventory this weekend to see whats lurking and can be used up!
I know its not related to groceries but I had been looking at buying train tickets for April family trip to London (ds competing in event at olympic park) but the price was quite high and went on today using a link from this site and got the tickets for literally half the price I was quoted last week plus reserved seating so am well chuffed with that!

there was nothing about when it ends, I did not need potatoes really but was too good to miss as I make HM mash very often as my wee boy loves it and whatever is left goes in the freezer for the next easy meal ( microwave from frozen and mash is ready).
I stocked up on these today, thankyou :j
