Hi to kerri gt and gem-gem for being involved last year and keeping us all informed with how you got on with your spends

:hello: I always feel a little bit of a fraud posting on this thread as I didn't actually sign up to the challenge - I did it a few years back but clothes aren't really a major problem spending area for me (OH might suggest differently :o) but keeping this thread in mind does help me think twice and I love hearing how everyone else is doing - the ups and downs, being able to make a few suggestions from experience and hearing about people's bargains - its almost like second hand shopping :D

As I'm not intending to go near any shops for the next two days, I think it's safe to post my last update for the year.

My limit was £300 for the year.

For the purposes of this challenge, I was only including clothes bought with hard cash. Anything I bought with paypal funds (from eBay sales) was not going to be included.

The grand total of cash spent on clothes was £193.40

So, for the purposes of the challenge, I was well within my target

I spent £124.24 on clothes from paypal funds. So including the paypal amount in the figures, the grand total was £317.64, only slightly over the cash expenditure limit

I'm quite surprised that I achieved my aim!

In 2015, I am undergoing a major wardrobe refurb - getting rid of clothes that are worn out, selling good clothes that no longer fit, and buying some new things to fit with my new retirement life.

Therefore, I won't be joining in for 2015, but I'll look in to the thread from time to time, for old times sake.

Thanks to everyone who joined in this challenge in 2014 :)

Thanks fedupandskint off to the new thread now :D

Thank you for running this challenge - it's been really helpful to actually add up what I spend, and I'm chuffed I came in under budget.

Final update from me for 2014 - kept out of the clothes shops during December, so a Nil spend month. :j

Total for the year remained at £53.03 out of £120 budget. :j Amazed and chuffed!

Thanks FedUpandSkint for running it and for setting up 2015 - I'll hop over and add my budget for next year. :)

Despite not posting since Feb I have been still doing the challenge so here comes one epic update post (sorry). Here's how I got on:

    1) £400 budget for the year (includes everything: underwear, sports stuff and no offsetting with money made etc). This is less than I spent in 2013 year (my budget was £500) so should up the challenge slightly but not too much.

Well, no - I didn't manage it unfortunately. I spent £443.32 which I've just realised is almost exactly what I spent last year (£443.95). I think I'll revert to £500 next year but deduct the overspend for this year - so £456.68.

    2) No more than 1 bad purchase  - see my summary post on the 2013 thread. I had about 9 in 2013 - I think this is going to be the trickiest part of the challenge, not to fritter.

Sadly didn't do this one either. I bought 6  items - although I did only have 2 occasions of madness (two items one time and three the other). Still it's an improvement, I definitely spent a lot less on the fritter.

Full confessional below - key is :D = good buy, = ok buy, = bad buy:

    January
    • Black glass bead (flapper style) necklace from antiques fair - £3. Worn a few times, not disappointed. :D
    • Black court shoes - £39.50. These were supposed to replace my work shoes but they are too high. I've worn them a few times to go out though and I didn't have any black going out shoes. Trouble is they are a bit big so my heels slip out
    • Mustard Dress - £16. This is why I shouldn't arrange to meet for coffee in a department store, got talked into this one - it's a summer dres so I stuck it in my wardrobe and forgot about it for months. In the end I did wear it for a christening and given the price I reckon that's ok :D

      Feb
    • No spend

      March
    • Walking gloves - £18. Didn't have any gloves and probably shouldn't have just grabbed the first pair that fit in an expensive mountaineering shop in Keswick. Worn once and didn't keep out the driving rain.

      April
    • Swimming costume - £18.94. For an trip to Centre Parcs which never happened so haven't worn, I'm pleased I've got it though so
    • Bras - £12.50. :D
    • A dress from New Look - £22.99. This one is definitely a  - walked past saw the dress in the window, was in a rush so didn't try on and then missed the returns date.
    • Top from New Look - £7.99. One the same occasion as the above, I also grabbed a top. Doesn't fit / flatter. Wore once
    • Top from New Look - £7.99. In fact I grabbed two tops, the same in different sizes - never worn

      May
    • Ballet shoes from H&M - £7.99. Wore these all summer - although I don't think they'll make next summer. Still for the price it's a :D
    • Socks for the ballet shoes from H&M - £4.99. Elastic lost all integrity after the first wash. Would have been an ok buy otherwise so
    • Laura Ashley jacket from charity shop - £6. Absolutely lovely soft and well cut jacket but it's not really my style - wore once, maybe twice
    • Top from Wallis from charity shop - £3.50. Again lovely and soft material but it's too big, I thought it would be ok under the jacket but it gapes too much when you lean forward - worn once
    • Two small mens t-shirts from local festival which I cut down to fit - £20. Wore pretty much all summer :D

      June
    • Red silk monsoon dress from eBay - £24.50. Bought to replace the identical one I had but over shortened, so I'm annoyed I had to rebuy but it did do me for 3 weddings so I think the purchase itself was valid. :D

      July
    • No spend

      August
    • Red floral top from Fat Face (airport buy) - £26.50. Hmm, really liked this and it's a bit more 'special' than the rest of my wardrobe (i.e. cut down festival t shirts) :D

      September
    • Jeans from Topshop - £38 as my others were holey. Don't love these but they were necessary so :D
    • 3 skirts in the Gap sale - £34.95. Dragged in my friend who'd just had a baby to find some jeans and nursing tops and got a bit carried away, however I've worn two of the skirts loads and the other one once (it's smarter so I'm lacking oportunity) and I do really like all three :D:D:D
    • Blue silk top - £50. This is where it all went wrong. I can no longer fit into any of my suits and as I was going away on a business trip I was trying to find a smart top to go with the smart skirt I got above. Although this was ridiculously expensive (and it was with 20% off) I was getting desparate. In the end it didn't look right with the skirt at all and I was all set to take it back when I had nothing to wear to a friend's birthday. I also wore it to my work Christmas party so I guess that makes it ok - still squirm at the price but I'm going to put it as a
    • Green Laura Ashley top - £42. Bought this at the same time as the above - absolutely love it though and have worn it lots. Splashed oil on it the other day and it's not all come out so I'm a little gutted but I think despite the price this still a :D

      October
    • No Spend

      November
    • Knickers from M&S (where else?) - £5.60 :D
    • Body (scuplt thing) from M&S - £26.18. Probably wasn't a great buy but did make me feel less uncomfortable - well, until the poppers kept spontaneously popping open. At least I've got one now so I'm not going to go and buy another
    • Navy tights from M&S - £3.20. They've stopped doing the tights I love but these are fine :D

      December
    • Vintage earings from charity shop - £2. Bit of bling for the party season. To be honest, I'd completely forgot that this would be included but I don't really regret it so :D

So in terms of money spent - of the £443.32:

    £236.24 = :D
    £158.61 =
    £48.47 =

    3) I'm a hoarder - I can't throw stuff out. I've been living back with my Dad for the last few years while saving to buy a house - which I will do in 2014 so I'm pledging to only take a sensible wardrobe with me (e.g. not clothes I've not worn since school / university) and I have to get rid of the rest.

Well I completely forgot about this pledge, not that it really matters as, although I bought the house, it's still a renovation project so I've not technically moved out of Dad's yet. Hmm, guess I'll have to carry this one forward, although planning huge wardrobes in the loft was also on my mind.

So 3 out of 3 failed :( but doing the challenge definitely made a difference, I'm pretty confident I would have spent a lot more otherwise :)

Sorry for the TL : DR post - it helped to write it though!

Trishx have you considered these if those court shoes are a little bit too big?

    http://www.shoesizers.com/

I have some 1/2 size ones for some high shoes (they slip because I have narrow feet).

For the top from Wallis that gapes when you lean, can you alter it at the back at all, or wear a vest under it perhaps?

And sounds like you need to stay out of New Look in future. ;)
