Took som boots back today I'd bought in HoF sale but couldn't really justify, even though they were reduced to £30. Unfortunately then popped into Primarni and came out with a dress, snood and top...totalling £17 :o oh, and adding parking and coffee with OH, I may as well have just kept the boots :o:eek:

  • I know it's almost February, but please can I join in? Aiming for £200 for all family. That's husband, me, and three boys... So far this year have spent £10. Am hoping to loose some weight so I can wear all my summer clothes otherwise all the budget will get spent on me!

Will be selling as much as possible too, and my boys do well in their hand me downs :). Probably biggest expense is shoes, but have bought a few pairs last year in clarks sale so they should be fine for a while :)

I have never budgeted for clothes before as I don't really enjoy shopping for them so just assumed there was no need to set limits as it happened so rarely. Yesterday I spent an hour or so on my online account going through all my spendings from 2013 and while clothes weren't a huge outgoing, I had spent a lot more than I thought on them! I'm going to be a bit ambitious here and aim for £50 for the year. I have more than enough clothes to last me the year so it should be doable.

A question for more experienced members: do you have any suggestions re tights? My go-to casual outfit is a dress (I have a few that I rotate and it's pretty much all I wear), but I have to wear tights with them and they get holes so easily! Should I just invest in some thicker tights or even woolly ones? Thank you!

    Welcome lavenderlover

I too wear a lot of dresses and skirts so wear a lot of tights. I have various tights including some thicker ones and they def last better. I bought a few pairs from Sainsbury's a few years ago, they aren't really thick but they have lasted me so long and still no holes. I have a few pairs of Primark thick tights too and I think they are pretty good but do go bobbly after a while.

Primark used to do some great micro lined tights, they were really thick and warm without being cottony. Sure they still do them. I often wear leggings with dresses too as I am forever putting my thumb through tights.
