  • Confession time: had a shopping day in Leeds. (This was planned pre-challenge)

Had mega bargains in urban outfitters (my weakness) as the sale items were on BOGOF. Got a dress, a pair of shoes and 2 rugs for the house for £15!!! The clothes themselves only came to £10 though :D originally would have totalled £126! :O

Also bought a cardigan for my interview for £15 from Dorothy Perkins and lastly my extremely naughty purchase was a hoody for £30 from the Hollister sale.

This adds £55 to my total spend meaning I'm now up to £65/£300.

Will have to be very well behaved in February :)

  • I needed a belt to go with my dress, but unfortunately came away with two (couldn't decide between brown and black).

Both in a charity shop and came to £3.50 for the two :D

    I'm happy with that!

Freedom Thursday and Friday for me wearing a blue skirt not worn for ages which got some nice comments.

On course for a 9th month without buying any clothes, amazing!

Hello, bit late to the party. Could you please add me with a total of £150 for the year? Last year I had a total of £100 and stayed within it too.

This year some things will need replacing - probably! I work from home, so don't have the pressure that I used to have of having to wear something different every day.

£100 was a tough challenge, I knew I needed a winter coat so kept my spends very low. Eventually I got my coat too as a summer sale bargain, a lovely red wool-look funnel neck (and I've only worn it twice!) £35.

I am lucky enough to have discount retailers near me so can pick up pieces very cheaply (Joe Bloggs jeans and tops for £12 when I've been very lucky).

What kept me on the straight and narrow was this:

    1. Do I REALLY need this exact item?
    2. If I buy it, what will I wear with it? Does it need something I don't own?
3.Could I get it cheaper elsewhere?
Finally, one thought that stopped a lot of spends...
    4. Do I like it so much because I actually have something very similar already that I don't wear / have forgotten about?

Good luck to everyone with the challenge.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • I'll be a bit late starting, but can I join in too please? :) I've no idea what I currently spend on clothes, (not much as I don't like shopping for them), so I'll set a budget of £200 for clothes and shoes this year, for me and my two small children. DD has plenty of clothes and I've got tons of fabric to sew and upcycle into new stuff if I ever get around to it... and DS gets lots of hand-me downs and doesn't need any more for a while. I probably won't count school uniforms as they'd take up half that budget.

I spent £2.75 in a charity shop today - a summer dress for £1.75, a pair of hippie trousers for 50p, and an Irish linen pillowcase (also 50p), that was meant to be turned into a skirt, but I didn't see the massive tear in it before I bought it :o so it will have to be something else!

  • Afternoon all :)

No spends as yet but am flipping fuming as my "lovely" pet pooch has chewed holes in both my brand new Xmas pressie M$S dressing gown and my old one! Lord knows what made him do it - am really niffed as I wasn't expecting the new one at Christmas but it was a lovely surprise.

Suppose I could try and mend it but holes are all over the place.

    Never mind

  • My Freedom Friday yesterday was finding (!) and wearing a pair of thick, black leggings/treggings I'd forgotten about :o I like them, glad I found them again!

mcculloch your point number 4 is very true of me - I caught myself nearly buying a dress practically identical to one I already have, and love :o

I now make myself think of at least 3 different ways of wearing what I buy, otherwise I don't buy it - have put back a few things doing this!

I bought a skirt (£10 from Tesco), which I'm declaring.
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

  • Hi
still doing ok despite having a mini wobble in a c shop for a skirt v. similar to what I'd already got - No 4 on mcculloch's list!
    to that list I would add;
    5. Is it really me and does it fit with my life now?
    6. Is it a perfect fit?

but at the moment I am still managing to shop my wardrobe-and the closer it gets to Feb makes me more determined! :)

    so still £3/£120
