  • Nothing else spent for Jan for me, I've discovered I have plenty of clothes, if only I could be bothered to iron a little more often!

    Hi all,

    January spends:

    black cardi for hols £14.99
    Black skirt £16
    Black work pants £14
    Trainers £9.99
    Black shoes £7.49

    Total: £62.47/£250
  • Hi everyone - not going shopping any time soon (and managed to resist the brilliant charity shops in the town we were visiting at the weekend!), so I spent £42 on two skirts in January. Both have been worn a couple of times too.

Just pondering on what to wear for Freedom Friday tomorrow ...
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I have read this thread from start to finish and I just wondered if I could join you?

This year I am really focusing on cutting down on "wasting" money on things that I could live without. I am tackling the grocery spend I the next big one for me, (although I hate to admit it !!) is my clothes spending. I need sorting out!!!!!!

Having 2 kids I don't tend to get lots of opportunities for browsing round the shops and buying stuff (which is a good thing!), but I do have a weakness for online sales and a "bargain". The other time I tend to waste money is on an outfit for a one off special occassion or a night out when I think I must get something new // which ends up being worn once or twice never to see light of day again which is ridiculous and a complete waste of money!!!! I'm not shopping "often" but may well splurge when I do.

I have a full wardrobe and find myself wearing the same 5 or so outfits day in and day out. The idea of a freedom day is brilliant!! I am a jeans kind of girl for casual wear but would love to get a little more adventorous in the day dress / skirt department.

I am going to set myself an annual budget of £350, which I know to some may seem high for just me but I need to keep it realistic and although I have never added it up is likely to be at least a few hundred less compared to what I normally spend.

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe but have NO IDEA where to start. On one hand I want to get brave and have a massive clearout of stuff but on the other hand feel really twitchy about getting rid of perfectly servicable clothes. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. :)

bluecow1975 I'm a bit like you when it comes to throwing out perfectly serviceable clothes. But I've found hanging onto items just because then takes up extra room in my draws and I can't find the things I do want. What I've just tried from my last sort out is having a pile of clothes bagged up that I just don't wear any more, it's not that they are past it, or unfashionable but they just tend to get bypassed. I'm going to put the bag away, after 6mths I'm going to revisit and take a long look to decide a) if I've missed the item b) if it goes back ,am I likely to wear it? From that I'll see what I feel ok to part with.

Love that idea Kerri. Bit like a "nearly gone" bag and if it isn't missed then I suppose it isn't really needed.

Will give that one a go. I know there are things I own like trouser suits and work wear that I just don't need anymore as now have a uniform for work. The problem with me is my "just incase" section which probably accounts for 70% of the space in my wardrobe!

Well I did it! One more month of no spending on clothes at all.

It's been a bit tempting at times but as I am determined to not go overdrawn I've been able to stick to my decision about this.

    No spend Jan 31/31
    No clothes spend month 9

Really pleased with how its going, attempting to wear all I have and not keep things in the wardrobe unworn. I might need some new shoes next month - will see if I can get through another month or not
