  • Hi all - I've popped into the SW thread several times in the past and would really love to do the diet...I joined the class once and have the books. My main problem in doing the diet was that I never got round to moderating my alcohol consumption. I would do the diet and then blow any syns on booze.

Well it's now my chance to do it as I'm on the wagon (for January at least - we'll see where it goes from there) - I did a calculation of how much money I was spending on wine and how many calories I was consuming and I was shocked!! So I'm actually approaching this with optimism and a determination to get it under control.

In the spirit of the thread - I'm 49 (got the big one coming later this year so that's another reason I want to lose weight) and I'm 14st s8 lb as of this morning...I'll be doing the diet at home with the books. (I'm married with two kids living at home 20 and 22 and a married daughter who has a little girl 4 and a little boy 1.5 - the apples of my eye!!)

I have big boobs and tummy so my tops are always much bigger than my jeans and stuff - tops being 18/20 and jeans etc 14/16. I'm actually quite active - I have done a bunch of marathons - but I'm really, really slow...I got in on the ballot to do the London marathon this year...I'll be in the region of over 5 hours...I know if I was thinner I could be much better than I am.

DH and I go on holidays in 8 weeks and I would really love to have a stone off (at least!) by then.

I will weigh in on Fridays...so I gave myself an extra day this week to be organised...another resolution is to bring all our homemade lunches to work as I normally just pop out to a local shop and get a sandwich...that stops today.

    Sorry for the essay!!:rotfl:

Gingerfur ball, what do you drink?

When I started SW I switched from wine to gin and stopped drinking the odd beer. I think changing to spirits has really helped me and I now don't actually miss wine at all even though I used to drink at least two bottles a week! Less of a hangover too!!

2ba3c - (i think that's right) I use the app for accurate syn values but its roughly 1 syn = 20 calories ;)

Thanks so much Mildredd, and congratulations on your loss so far, very inspiring :)

Are you talking about a phone app, I had a search and can't find anything? I'd love something to have on the go. Sadly, SW seems to be be lacking a bit behind WW in the technical stakes.

I don't care if SW works for me, I can use a pen and paper :D

Am desperately trying to lose enough weight to *fingers crossed* try for another baby again this year.

2ba3c yeah there's a iPhone app :) it lists pretty much all of the food I've searched for bar a few randoms like no kopparberg ciders lol
It depends on what the line is with ur consultant but mine says one week don't save syns the next week oh save syns?
A few of us work on the basis of 105 syns a week and then subtract backwards and its never affected my loss and I've had Indians/chineses/meals out etc, think the general idea is try it if it works for you to so it daily / weekly stick with what works?

Top girl yes sf that's a sw approved soup for the sf content and the speed content.

    Hi gingerfurball,

Like you, I did have a problem controlling the syns I used on alcohol but I (and a few other users of this thread) have found this thread to be very useful if you are trying to give up/cut down: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4409761

Ohhhhh intriguing! I was TTC for about a year and a half, so it's probably me you remember! What was your name?

Thanks for the info re the iPhone app - just found it. Don't know where I was looking before!

Hello all, seriously contemplating returning to SW. Did it many moons ago, not sure to do it online (current £35 discount very appealing) or to join a group. Looking to get back on track 6th January along with going to the gym at least 3 times a week. Currently 14 stone 11 and have no target except to say I aim to reach at least 10stone then take it from there.

Hello everyone, just decided first day on plan for me today...although I have not weighed myself! - strike while the iron is hot....so I will weigh myself in the morning....I had scrambled eggs, touch of milk (A) and butter (2syns), bacon and beans and mixed berries for breakfast and just had beef, toms, lettuce and cucumber for lunch...it's a roast dinner for my evening meal so think it's an EE day!

Just making some vegetable soup ready to have when I go back to work tomorrow - added some potatoes so it should be filling - also trying to go gluten free - does anyone have any ideas if any of the gluten free bread is on the HEB? I've tried to google but no definitive answers - just wondered if anyone already uses it?

Hope you're having a good day Cxx
