Hi I'm normally a lurker but thought I would post after reading the rice/cabbage discussion. I have cauliflower rice, you just put pieces of cauliflower in a food processor and chop it up until it looks like rice, then put it in a bowl with a couple of tbsp of water, cover with clingfilm and microwave until cooked.
It's really nice and filling, it goes really well with curries and is obviously superfree so even betterSlimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0 -
I joined Slimming World last week and am trawling the Internet after more info and found this.
A couple of questions I have, I make my own yogurt, using semi-skimmed milk. What makes Muller etc yogurts syn free? I use sweetener and fresh fruit in mine. I have tried using skimmed milk to make it, but it's too runny. I also add 2 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder to it to thicken it up.
I could do with some tips for free convenience food for veggie's, any ideas? Thinking of things like the mug shots that I have heard about. Anything else? Wanting quick lunches for work if I don't have time to do a salad.
Thanks.:hello:0 -

Thanks.
Here are a few suggestions, some do have low syns and you would have to check they are suitable for a veggie:-
Batchelors deli box, pasta cheese and broccoli - 2 syns
Batchelors deli box, pasta mild curry - 1 syn
Mug Shot, pasta snack, spicy tomato - Free
Mug Shot, pasta snack, minestrone - Free
Mug Shot, pasta snack, tomato and herb - Free
Mug Shot, cous cous, tomato and roasted veg - 1 syn
Mug Shot, cous cous, Moroccan style - 1.5 syns
Mug Shot, noodle snack, thai style - 0.5 syn
Mug Shot, noodle snack, Chinese style - Free
Mug Shot, noodle snack, spicy sweet and sour - Free
Pot noodle in a mug, spicy curry - Free
Pot noodle in a mug, tomato and herb - Free
Be careful if you buy your Mug Shots from discount stores as have been told that these contain more syns as they have extra ingredients in to make them cheaper to manufacture. The packets look the same but the colours on the packet look faded.
Hope this helps

Sary. Hope u dont lose ur roof tonight lolplease-let-me-be-lucky wrote: »I haven't, but I do make a cauliflower and lentil korma-dahl thing that is so filling it doesn't need rice, so I can see how that would work. I do know someone who swears by Savoy cabbage instead of rice though. She says it's so awesome she has it whatever plan she is doing that day. Have to say, she's lost almost 7 stone in 7 months, so she's doing something right!! Xx
I love savoy cabbage with so many things. I shred it and cook it in savoury rice, put it into pastas, have it alongside casseroles or any one-pot meal. It's really filling, and I like the taste too.
Can someone kindly give me an idiots guide to the difference between red & green ?
Keep going everyone
I'm not exactly an expert, but the basic rule of thumb that I use is that Red/Original days are ones that are high in proteins such as lean meats, but lower on the carbs, such as pasta, potatoes, rice and pulses, so you'd have to have those as a HeB or syn them, eg. 100g of baked beans is 4 syns. Most veg and fruit are still free foods. I'm having a red day today, so my plan is below.
Green days are days when you have to either use meat as a HeB or syn it, but the pulses, potatoes, pasta and rice are free. I use them for days when I want to have double the Hex's and tend to have a pasta dish, or a big jacket potato, with cheese and beans.
I basically see a red day as a meat filled day, and a green day as a veggie day. That way it stops me snacking on slices of ham if I'm doing a green one, or on rice on a red day.
Well it's been a good day plan wise today. I thought it was going to be EE, but having done my food diary tonight, I have opted to have an Original/Red day, so that I didn't have to count too many syns, and could put them as a HeB instead.
Today's Food Diary:
Original/Red Day
B - porridge HEB1 + 25g porridge 4.5 syns, milk HEA1 (plus in teas). Sugar 1tsp 1 syn
L - Bacon x 2, eggs x 2, tomato, slice of wm bread HEB2, baked beans (less than 100g, but counting as full amount) 4 syns
D - McDonald's chicken salad 1 syn incl: chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots. Balsamic dressing 1.5 syns
Supper - apple, mullerlight
Total Syns = 12
I'm missing a 2nd HEA, but as I've had a lot of teas today, I'll say I had extra milk in those. Better to be safe than sorry!
Frogga, keep plodding on mate, you'll be back on track soon enough, but coming back here shows you're trying.
I hope you're all very impressed with my restraint in McDonald's tonight, when OH had not only a Big Tasty meal, but then had a chocolate McFlurry. *polishes halo again* :AOne day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
