Evening everyone. I was doing really well not spending any money today but DH went to the shop for himself and grabbed a few necessities. I was planning on getting them tomorrow so SFD tomorrow then:T

I managed another long walk today which was nice in the sunshine. I paid some cash into the bank & went to waitrose for a free cuppa. DS wasn't impressed with his HM jam tarts & juice but I was strong. My frugal things for today was slicing up my overripe bananas & cooking apples for the freezer. I'm planning on blending the bananas tomorrow to make banana 'ice cream'. Thought it was worth a go. I've also cancelled Sky & ordered TalkTalk saving £30 a month:D. Now just got to go through the list of things to reclaim for off this weeks email.

(((((HUGS)))) to anyone who needs one. Hopefully a positive year for us all

    Hi all,

Another SFD for me today :) also no sugar day again :)

Went to gym and did 30 min spin class then 30 min swim :A Going to go to bed soon as it has tired me out!

Need to do my shopping list for tomorrow but don't think I need too much. Regretting not buying more reduced Apple's last week as they have lasted well in fridge and I am going to make pork and Apple in mustard sauce so will need another bag. Fingers crossed they are on aldi's supersix! Quite a bit of batch cooking this weekend I think :)

WOW this thread is moving fast today. I have bee reading for an hour and have to keep refreshing as more people post!

beckyboo – your daughter sounds delightful, you must be so proud!

MrsGSR – Big hugs. The weather is bad enough without being stuck indoors and not seeing your OH.

Pinkylds – Good on you for getting out and getting your own home sorted. I’m sure once you are settled you will be able to focus on debt busting.

CariadsNewStart – I would pay everything out on one day a week otherwise you will lose your precious SFD ;) Unless they are DD or SO as these won't count against your SFDs.

Rosie – Mortgage free this year? Congratulations, I am so jealous. I am scheduled to be mortgage free by my 40th birthday (over 10 years away) and cannot wait.

LoveaDove – I hope you have success at the blood bank, let me know how it goes. I really want to give blood but when I went they couldn’t get my blood to come out and gave up :(

Buffy – Thanks for the light bulb recommendation, I have been wondering about getting one of these as I think I must have SAD as I’m so down in the winter and happy in the summer.

Today was a major unexpected spend day. Yesterday my car had issues and after nearly skidding into oncoming traffic I took it to the garage this morning. This meant I had to drive to the garage, walk to the nearest city, pay for the bus to another city (where I am doing temping work) walk across second city as bus stop was nowhere near work. Then after work, borrow a car to drive back to my house, walk to the bus, get a bus to the city, walk to the garage, collect car and take to tyre shop, get tyres and then drive to tutoring job :(

All in all, I am knackered. I spent £10 on topping up my bus card, which I lost in the house :( but luckily was given a new one at the bus station although only £5 has been credited :( I also spent £157 on new tyres as although the old ones were legal, they were apparently made of such low quality products that they gave me very little grip, hence the skidding yesterday.

    So it is definitely a day for focussing on the positives;
    • I did not cause/was involved in any car related accidents
    • I can drive my own car tomorrow (after returning the borrowed car and getting the bus again)
    • I managed to get a replacement bus card
    • I completed at least 4 miles very fast paced walking (stomping)
    • I earned £25 tutoring (so £20 paid off ccard and £5 in tax pot)
    • Tomorrow I should be paid by my temping job, which will cover the cost of the tyres and go towards paying off more of my ccard
    • I have come in under calories on my diet (although I have had a few miniature heroes)
    • My OH has dinner cooked by the time I got home from tutoring
Sorry for the most enormous post!

    Hugs to all

    Another £1.50 in Asda, so:

    1. SFD 0/20
    2. Food budget £13.72/£200
    3. Brand downshift 0/5
    4. Lunch to work 1/11 (projected days in the office this month)
    5. Arranged outings 0/4
    6. Exercise 1/15 (walk round the office grounds today)
    7. Petrol budget 0/£50
    8. Food bank donation 0
    9. Beauty spends 0/£10

A friend suggested a coffee later in the month but as I need to wander to her house anyway because I'm giving her some old kitchen stuff I don't need, I suggested we save money and have coffee at her house :D

Part of the reason I went to Asda tonight was because I need to get passport photos taken as I'm going on holiday in seven weeks. I'm going to put the £5 aside for this so that when I finally find a working photo booth I don't have to waste a SFD (tried two today, neither working) The money for the passport is already accounted for.
  • NSK - I've been watching your progress over the last 6 months and you really are amazing and a complete and total inspiration! I'll be watching from the sidelines again this month to get my act in gear again and then if I'm feeling brave enough, I'll bite the bullet and join you all next month. Good luck everyone :T

Evening all. Hope you are all well.

So... yesterday was a spend-free day.
    :D

We went shopping today and spent £43.75 but a fiver of that was for my mum so our revised total is £38.75!!
We have gone over our weekly budget but I had to buy an extra present that wasn't budgetted for and we do have enough food and drinks to last all week.
    :o

I am hoping that we can claw it back in the next week or so.
    :undecided

Diet starts tomorrow so spent today eating some chocolate beofre binning the rest.
    :P

Hoping everyone is having a good day and I will see you all tomorrow. Fingers crossed for spend-free day number 2.
    ;)

Bex296 - aargh, pets, stop it with the terrible timing! Hope your rabbit feels better soon. I have rats and one of my old men has developed a respiratory infection today. I had Baytril in so have started him on that, and spent some time with him in the bathroom with the shower running on high so he got some steam. I swear he was rolling his eyes at me...

January NSD #2 for me today - still a bank holiday up here but I was back to work. No rest for the wicked/self-employed (those two things may be the same!)

One good bit of news for me though was that the big invoice was paid today, so with that and the money squirreled away over the last couple of months I now have my big tax payment, and the second payment for July, sorted. Tomorrow I will do the big online payment and then refresh my HMRC account obsessively to make sure it has made it to the correct place. I hate transferring larger amounts online - terrifying!

This means that the next few months will still be pretty tight but leaves my CC as my only biggie. As of February 1st I can use the money I'd been putting aside for saving to pay off the CC instead. Have done all of the projections (of course! There are more worksheets in my Budget document than there are days in the year!) and that should be paid off by July. Then I can start to save for decorating my flat, only a year or so after I moved in! :j

  • NSD & LTW today...but storing up a few spends for tomorrow! We have 10 coming for a murder mystery dinner, although I doled out bringing various contributions to the meal along with the invites, and we scooped up a fair bit of reduced ingredients for the main course...there are a few bits I need to pick up but will factor in a visit to Aldi rather than Mr S! Its petrol tomorrow too, and if its a spend day...going to try to get a off-cut of lino for the kitchen floor whilst the sales on, and while my mate has time to help me fit it!

Helped out by unexpected dinner at a friends today, and they also are happy to take DD to the theatre with them at the weekend, meaning I can save the adult ticket price. I thought it was worth asking. I'd like to have gone, but its not the end of the world if I don't, and converts one of my social spends from at least £15 to £3.50. I can do them tea and cake for afterwards, and DD gets to see the show. I can even use the time Ebaying ;)
