  • Car

Unfortunately nearly everything is falling soon  which has been covered by the pots last year but unfortunately we're having to start again with these after the shortfall due to reduced hours at work :(

    So:

Car Tax: £120  (previous car was only £30 - wishing I had Dinky1 back!) due at end of Feb .... no idea where this is coming from:o

I should have £50 in CU account by Feb but still £70 short ...:(

MOT: £60 ? due March - I am :o to say, I actually can't remember the last car I had MOT'd as I usually swap them before they're 3 :o.... tyres are fine (winter ones will still be on) so hoping it's OK

I have a plan for this :) fingers crossed the weather stays OKish & I don't need to get the bus to work (with the winter tyres it really would have to be pretty terrible for me not to be able to drive!) so I have £54 in the bus fare fund + I've started a £ coin tin so can top that up to £60

Mmmm would rather not tbh - might have to move my mortgage soon (provider been taken over & we're been move to "comparable" products so depends on what it is) so would rather not have any loans etc on credit report

Cats have stuff on c/card this month (Jan salary) but have loads of litter / food so should be OK to use their Feb payment if I'm really stuck - but would rather start pet vet funds with it if poss

Think I need to do that freezer inventory tomorrow ;) (weather supposed to be carp aain:() ........ must print off that sheet that Moo linked to the other day:)

  • So ..... lovely & sunny :) (forecast wrong again - really hard to plan when they get it so wrong!!)

    Things that need done are:

    • Make soup for lunches
    • Chop leeks & freeze
    • Freezer inventory
    • Washing x 1 human & several dog *
    • Ironing
    • Tidy up & Hoover
    • Take Maisie short walk
    • Have NSD
    * human one on - not sure what to do about dog's stuff as this is what's causing the damp in the bathroom having her stuff hanging in there all the time :( This is where Mia being in the spare room is a bit of a pain (and I remember I had damp in there last year so I guess the washing is the cause of it)

I've had to remove my over door hangers from my bedroom (x 2) and the spare room (x 1) as I now need to shut these doors on / off all day - really missing these as it was great for hanging towels etc on *sigh*

Hope the sun lasts till this afternoon - don't want to take Maisie out too early as she's only allowed 1 short walk ..... but don't want to miss the sun either!

    Good morning, Rising.

Sorry to hear that Maisie has been poorly, how is she today?
Re the damp, maybe it's worth getting a dehumidifier? I know they arent cheap, but maybe have a look on your local freecycle, or eBay?

Hard to say TBH - thought she was a bit better this morning (although she was still sleeping when I got up at 8 which isn't like her) - and we went for a walk on the slightly longer beach (maybe 30 mins). She was bouncy at the start (and is a booger for not looking where she's going wanting the ball - and ran full pelt side on into a car :().

She played for a bit :) and had a nice run around / chased ball a few times :T BUT nowhere near like normal AND she totally ran out of steam 1/2 way back ..... she's comatose again .... *sigh*

mmmmm good idea, I'll look into it, thanks - prob something for next winter TBH as I've not got spare funds just now (due to car stuff Feb & March) AND will need a new phone at some point in Feb

  • Progress on the to do list:

    • Make soup for lunches Done!
    • Chop leeks & freeze Done!
    • Freezer inventory 1 down, 1 to go! *
    • Washing x 1 human Done! & several dog 1 to go in, other will have to wait for drying space!
    • Ironing Sorted & next on list
    • Tidy up & Hoover Done!
    • Take Maisie short walk Done!
    • Have NSD Done!

    * OMG I will admit to having to throw some stuff out
I really should learn my lesson but each year I forget - when I freeze bought stuff, I really must remember to write the year on them. There were loads of things that said eg 9 Jan ... but 9 Jan which year? 2013 / 2012 / 2011 (yup, I did find some stuff from 2011 in there :o which has been binned as I really feel it's past it's best) And I can't remember, there were things (shop bought stuff) that had BBF end Aug 12 - and I was convinced I'd only bought them in the last 6 months :o (2013 was a bit of a blur TBH)

Right - need to tackle the outside one now .......

  • Small steps but feel like I've just walked on the moon (IYKWIM:o)

Finally plucked up courage to cancel the charity subscriptions (some of you may remember me talking about them in the old diary)

It was soooooo hard - one of them I've supported for 10 years :( - the reason I started it was because I wasn't in a position to have my own dog then ....

BUT I do have my pets now & I'm afraid I need to put them first especially if I'm going to have to go down the self-insure route (see earlier post re pet insurer pulling out of market:()

I've been trying to think of ways to keep them & also having huge debates & changing my mind about which one to cancel .... did them all

    So have freed up:

    £ 4.34 Charity 1
    £ 4.00 Charity 2
    £ 3.00 Charity 3
    £ 6.00 Mobile insurance *
    £17.34 Total Saved

Wow - amazing how just a few little bits adds up isn't it!

    * contract ends Feb & phone is already not working properly - need to look at this another day!

Need to find out if my dormant account is still open & will set up a Standing Order to transfer say £15 / month to start the pets vets fund :)

If I take out the Accident / Injury policies for them all & also stick the difference from what I currently pay for their insurances away (around £25 / month) that'll give £40 / month to put away for them - and still have the peace of mind of the basic insurance ..... any thoughts?

  • NSD today :)

It's easy when I come home at lunchtimes :) BUT that means I use more fuel so ..... not really that money saving unfortunately :(

Decided I want to do something special for me :o ..... one of the girls at work is going on a really special holiday with her best pal from school.

They started a savings jar when they turned 30 (turn the big 40 this year!) to treat themselves - just sticking £ in here & there etc

Thinking I might do this and aim for something extra special for my 50th  (it's actually not that far away if you really think about it & how quickly the time passes)

I have always dreamed of going to Canada (since I was little) ..... thinking this might be the chance to go (obviously I would need to save up other money - but even if this paid for the flights)

Anyway - got a(nother) tin and stuck £2 in it today .... will try to stick with it

Hurrah - completely agree that you need to put your own pets first for now. You can always find other ways of supporting them or go back to donating when your own situation is better. £40 a month sounds a really good start on a self-insure fund.
