I stopped smoking 9 weeks ago and know that I won't restart. I've tried many times including taking Zyban (nasty stuff).
Read the reviews for Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking on Amazon and buy the book and you WILL stop. There's no scare tactics (you know why you should stop already). And you must continue to smoke while you read it!!
    You have nothing to lose.
My next task is to stop drinking, but I want to get Christmas and New Year out of the way first!!
    Good luck everyone!

Hi Millenium - well done on stopping smoking, that's awesome. :T I packed in the fags on 9 Jan 2012 after 20 years of smoking (I started when I was 12!!!) I tried and tried and tried for years to do it and this is the longest I have been off them. I never say never but I really don't think I will ever go back to them. According to my little smoke meter I've not spent £5273 on cigarettes in the last 2 years or smoked 14, 500 cigarettes! Isn't that amazing? I too would recommend Alan Carr's book but I stopped with patches and support from an online forum - about.com/smokingcessation. It was invaluable to me.

I'm reducing my alcohol consumption in 2014. I'm not setting a goal for it but I'm just going to try and cut back.

    NYD x

    Great thread newyorkdreams.

    Mine are:

    1. Pay off my £3500 debt (managed £6500 of the £10k in 2013).
    2. Get under 10 stone.
    3. Start saving.
    4. Start a family.

Savings can be broken down further - £1k emergency fund, £1k ISA savings, £4k baby fund. Then, if my some miracle I complete these targets, save for a bigger house!

How much are you looking to gain & how you plannin on doin it?

Putting on has never been an issue for me unfortunately but can imagine it being a challenge just like having to lose weight too.

This is a fab thread - I mentioned making a note of my goals for 2014 on my debt free diary so hope no one minds me jumping on here too!

    I'd like to...

    1. Become debt free (preferably a couple of months earlier than my current DFD of August)
    2. Save £2k toward house deposit
    3. Get to the gym 3 times a week and get healthy - hopefully this will put me back under 10st
    4. Drink at least a litre of water a day - I know it should be more but at the moment I barely drink a single sip so a litre will be a good increase!
    5. Book a holiday after avoiding anything longer than a weekend away during 2013
    6. Teach myself to play a song on a guitar - need to find a guitar first!

Good luck to everyone with their 2014 aims!
    Nest Egg Savings Target: £7300/£10,000
    Wedding Savings: £2660/£8,000
    0% Credit Card Debt Jan 2017: £2064
