Why not try reading a John Grisham or a Lisa Gardner book? Either tends to be easy enough to get into.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Hello all :hello:
It has been a little while since I last logged on - big congrats to you NYD and well done everyone on their progress so far, can't believe we're over half way through the year already!! A quick run down on where I'm up...
1. Become debt free So this is ticking over in the background as the impending house move creeps up on us (should have been in last month but something to do with delays when buying new builds ) I will be bringing my total debt down to £1000 at the end of this month and moving it over to a new 18 month 0% deal. There it will stay until it no longer exists and my repayments will be set to clear it by the end of the offer period! :T
[STRIKE]2. Save £2k toward house deposit[/STRIKE] So this one has happened! The delay in completion has actually meant it's been easier to get together. Now we just want to get in!! Going to be in between addresses for a couple of weeks come the end of July but fingers crossed we get the keys soon!!!
3. Get to the gym 3 times a week and get healthy So I am rejoining the gym this week for 3 months to see how I go, I've also lost half a stone doing the 5:2 diet which means my target of being under 10st is only a couple of lbs away!
4. Drink at least a litre of water a day Been pretty good at this of late
5. Book a holiday after avoiding anything longer than a weekend away during 2013 On the back-burner whilst we sort the house buying business.
6. Teach myself to play a song on a guitar Still aiming for September.
I feel most things are coming together quite nicely, if I can get my backside back into the gym and get healthy I think I'll be heading for a pretty happy second half of 2014Nest Egg Savings Target: £7300/£10,000
Wedding Savings: £2660/£8,0000% Credit Card Debt Jan 2017: £20640 -
It's a bit late for this week (been away at a wedding) but here goes:
1. Pay Loans x 3 (£8342) - now £1421 -- paid £6921 so far in 2014 (83%). 2 loans gone, 1 loan to go.
2.Pay & close x 4 CCs (£5764) - COMPLETE now £0-All 4 cards closed!!!! :T
3. Read 6 books - First book complete (Philomena). Second book complete. (The human mind by Robert Winston). Started 3rd book - The brain that changes itself. Need to relax more so need to find a good fiction book which I don't tend to read. Any tips???? Boooooo - no progress at all!!!
4. Complete photo albums x4 - Album 1 complete :T. No further update this month. Boooooo - no progress at all although to be fair, every weekend is spent travelling to see my dad.
5.Exercise at least twice a week for 45 mins - Didn't go to the gym at all last week. I walked into town (20 mins). I'm aiming for tomorrow night and Friday for the gym. I walked today at lunchtime and aiming to do that again tomorrow.
6. Get to goal weight (10st 8lbs) - Lost 5.5lbs in total.
7. Redecorate my bedroom - decorators are booked for October!
8. Say 'no' when I need to - in progress
9. Pray more - have been lax at this recently and must do it as need to count my blessings!
10. stop wasting fruit and veg - not going so well over last 4 days, back on track today!
11. Gut out spare room - rescheduled to April :rotfl: Started! . This will need to step up a gear in the next 6 months. Going to start going through books this coming week and sort them into 3 piles - keep, sell and dump. Will be at home weekend after next so will have a good clear out then.

And I have decided to review my goals for 2014. So much has happened for me in the first half of the year that I think some of my goals have become unrealistic, inappropriate and I could be doing with having a renewed focus. I dread every week updating my goals hat I haven't met due to the current pressures on my time (caring for my dad at the weekend who lives 3 hours away) and this makes me really demotivated. Obviously, I'm now expecting a baby so this really does change some of them - like getting to my goal weight!!!
That is the whole point, goals should not be changed on a whim otherwise they would never be achieved. However, they need to realistic and achievable and flexible enough to cope with serious changes in circumstances.
So here goes....
1. Pay Loans x 3 (£8342) - now £1421 -- paid £6921 so far in 2014 (83%). 2 loans gone, 1 loan to go. THIS IS AMENDED TO PAY LOANS X2. 3RD LOAN WILL BE PAID BY IT'S ORIGINAL DUE DATE IN FEB 2015. ACTION NOW COMPLETE.
2.Pay & close x 4 CCs (£5764) - COMPLETE now £0-All 4 cards closed!!!! :T ACTION COMPLETE.
3. Start AVC's- COMPLETE - AVCs started in this month's payACTION COMPLETE.
4. Read 6 books - CHANGED GOAL TO 'Read 4 books'.
5. Complete photo albums x4 - REMOVE GOAL - I CANNOT SEE ME ACHIEVING THIS WITH THE TIME THAT I CURRENTLY HAVE AVAILABLE TO ME.
6.Exercise at least twice a week for 45 mins - CHANGE GOAL TO 'TRY TO EXERCISE 5 DAYS A WEEK, EVEN IF ONLY A 10 MIN WALK AT LUNCHTIME'.MY GOAL IS TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME I AM ACTUALLY ACTIVE AND I AM A BIT ALL OR NOTHING SO FOCUSING ON THE GYM ALONE IS NOT HELPING ME.
7. Get to goal weight (10st 8lbs) - CHANGE TO 'EAT A HEALTHY DIET AND LIMIT PREGNANCY RELATED WEIGHT GAIN TO NO MORE THAN 15 POUNDS'. THIS IS THE LIMIT RECOMMENDED FOR WOMEN WITH A BMI OF 30 OR MORE (MY BMI IS 34). I DON'T WANT TO BE LEFT WITH ANOTHER MAJOR PROBLEM TO DEAL WITH!
8. Redecorate my bedroom - RETAIN GOAL.
9. Say 'no' when I need to - REMOVE GOAL. I FEEL THAT I AM MUCH BETTER AT THIS.
10. Pray more - have been lax at this recently and must do it as need to count my blessings! AMEND GOAL TO 'PRACTICE RELAXATION THROUGH PRAYER AND MEDITATION REGULARLY'.
11. stop wasting fruit and veg - REMOVE GOAL.
12. NEW GOAL - GO TO BED AT A REASONABLE HOUR!
13. Gut out spare room - AMEND GOAL TO 'DECORATE NURSERY'

INOD - how long do your 'periodic slumps' last and what do you usually do to get out of the slump and moving again?
I think that you are doing fantastic.
