Goals for 2014

in_need_of_direction wrote: »One thing I don't understand is that people have reading books as an aim. If this is a struggle, why not read less worthy books? Also, i think for me to get anywhere, I may need to restrict my book reading.
It's not the worthiness of the books or the level of difficulty, it's simply prioritising doing this activity over other things. I, for one, spend far too much time on my laptop but some of that time would be better spent reading a book, novel or other piece of writing to help me to switch off and give my eyes a rest. If I didn't have it as a goal, I wouldn't prioritise it, at all. There is no point in having something as a goal if it's easy to attain, in my opinion.

Hi I like the look of this post
Here's mine:
Pay off at least one credit card (aiming low here as my financial situation is dire)
Get a new job - for my well-being - I cannot work here a year longer - unless they pay me more to do a more exciting job! (I HAVE AN INTERVIEW NEXT WEEK)
Loose some weight I am not overweight but I don't like my weight now I carry it on my tummy and its not pleasant
Only shop in ALDI
Bring lunch to work everyday that I need to
Not talk about work when I see my friends
Don't miss any payments on anything

I am updating as my situation has changed so:
Sell house and pay off all my debt (house has been on market 9 days and got 2nd viewing today. My tenants are moving out and this is the best solution for us - we rent now and its much better we have a bigger house than we could ever afford to buy in a fab location)
I have a new job - but the money is the same - this still should be better for my well-being and I will still look elsewhere as this is a year contract - if the house sells I will be paying out £900 a month less so will be able to take a lower paid job.
I will gove up my second job - I am working too much I am exhausted and I can't keep this up much longer - only until house sells
I will pay £30,000 from my house sale into a savings account to go toward a house in the south of France for when I retire

Well done on your goal progress - you are doing amazingly well.0 -
NYD, i know nothing I can say will make things any better but am thinking about you. This is the time to make life as easy on yourself as you can so step back from the goals for a bit if it helps. we'll all be here when you decide you can pick them up again.

So, here goes for this week
1. Get sugar control (I'm diabetic)
longer term, will update in May
2. Work out what I need in a savings pot and go for it
still aiming for £6.3k plus £200 in cash. only update is that despite a heavy month, position maintained and £5 added to cash from this week's underspend from me and £5 liberated from OH. Now at £45 (22.5% of way)
3. Make mortgage overpayments equivalent to 3x monthly payment
Overpayments sitting at £475.23 since 01 Jan which is 68.8% of way towards the quarterly target. think this may be a bit of a squeeze. flipside is that this quarter's interest goes on 31 March
4. Lose weight. Weighed in at 14.5 stone on 01 jan. Am aiming for 14 stone by 01 march
added another 1lb this week bringing me back to 2lbs above my weight at the start of the year
5. Declutter
4 things currently on that auction site - 2 have bids
6. Take garden in hand
very small tidy ups
7. Start 'flylady' daily routines
still trying to embed - babysteps
8. Get rid of ugly clothes bought because they fit and not cos they were nice.
1 item on ebay
9. Appreciate my home and make it nicer
continuing to wage that war - see 5
10.be more disciplined in my job
i think it's happening
11. Be more consistent in dealing with others
as 10
12. Be less wasteful
resisted the dreaded takeaway to eat what was in fridge and breadbin
13. Donate
upped donation to son's fundraiser by £20 as I had spare from my spends
14. Volunteer
n/a
15. Cook more
attended cookery school yesterday. produced credible and now eaten outputs that I want to replicateMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. KT2802 and INOD - thank you so much for your kind thoughts and wishes. We just cannot believe it; he has been fighting different forms of cancer for many years but it was under control. The lung cancer was spotted and he received a 'we can't do anymore for you' diagnosis only 3 weeks ago. 21 days later he has gone.
The worst thing is, he lives overseas and we have just had to spend all day sorting out flights, hotels, transfers etc, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, it's just that it has set us back somewhat with our debt busting and goes to show even more so what difference a substantial emergency fund would have made (ours is a measly £500 and we have spent £1100 already). Bless my dad, he is giving me £300 to help towards the expenses, how blessed am I. Flights to Gatwick from Scotland to get us there in time for our flight are mega expensive (over £150 each one way!!!) - they target business people and what a profit they make! So we are driving down in our high mpg car. We got a good deal on a hotel, tomorrow night's accomodation, evening meal, parking, transfers and breakfast for £116. I'm so sad, my heart aches and I'm dreading what is coming next, it's going to be awful.
I've not had to deal with much death in my life so this is a bit new to me. Poor poor man and poor poor MIL who is left without her soul mate.
Thank for the advice re stepping back from my goals, you are absolutely right, I need to just take it easy and if I complete them, then I complete them but I'm not sweating it.
Thank you so much again, it is lovely to know your thoughts are with me.
