Oops & the MOT of course.... :o

I have all relevant paperwork. Thanks

Will I have to backdate it to when i bought it even though It wasn't on the road??
  • Not necessarily. They will tax from the beginning of December, unless you wait until 31st to tax & use from January. Possibly act ignorant & complete paperwork as though just purchased.... or leave blank & the Post Office will probably put from the start of the tax date... :undecided

Having an ambulance might be handy if you're in a hurry to get somewhere though!

the date on the V5 allready has the purchase date
  • Do you mean the V5 is already in your name with a purchase date, or just handwritten in section 6 change of owner etc

DVLA have got a bit quick with tax running out on a vehicle & charging the months once the tax runs out if the vehicle is not declared SORN. You said earlier you felt the vehicle had tax, did it have a nil tax disc in the screen? If so, you may get away with it, it's a tricky one, you could phone DVLA but may drop yourself in it once they 'cotton on'

The other option is to complete the V62 & take the green slip only (as though you don't have the V5 at all....)

The V5 is allready in my name with the purchase date. The tax disc says NIL on it (Ambulance use)
  • Then take the V5 to the post office with MOT, insurance & payment & on section 7 (the blue bit - changes to current vehicle) Change the taxation class to PLG or Light Goods vehicle or whatever it is (V355/1 will give you all the classes available)

Sign & date the left of the V5 at the bottom (not the right - this is for a new keeper) Take to the Post office & hope for the best.

Veering off - Today I went to tax a vehicle & The Post Office have informed me that I no longer need to take insurance (new rules apparently) The onus is on the Keeper & not the Post Office to check insurance - another way for the Government to inflict fines I guess

The insurance document no longer needs to be shown to tax your vehicle at the post office (due to recent changes in law). I'm not 100% sure whether MOT paper needs to be shown but it's very unlikely.

It doesn't, but you may be as well taking it, if the MOT has only just been done, as it may not be on the system yet.

Likewise, the Insurance Certificate, if you have only just insured it.
