Tax: bought a vehicle classed as ambulance advise needed PLEASE

Options
Bought a Land Rover classed as an ambulance back in the summer. Havnt drove it has was an ongoing project (suspension faulty) now its ready to be taxed/taxation class changed - I believe this has got to be done at a DVLA office...

Will the tax be backdated to when I bought it?? I hope not its expensive! I'll need to take the V5C along which shows the date of purchase, so will they understand that is hasn't been used until now? I didnt declare SORN as felt it allready had tax

any advise appreciated, thanks

Your situation is unclear to me.

Where has this vehicle been kept since the summer?

Has it been insured all the time?

If it has been on your drive, or in your garage, I think you should have declared SORN.

I don't understand your last sentence about why you didn't declare SORN as you felt it had Tax.

vehicle kept on drive & insured. I dont think you can declare sorn if it has tax still to run (which it did as an ambulance) I didn't want to change the tax until now as I wasn't using it

As an ambulance I believe tax disc is free. You should have contacted DVLA if it was no longer an ambulance.
I am not a cat (But my friend is)
  • Check with DVLA. I believe most of the regional offices are now gone so it'll probably be possible at certain post offices or by post.

My local DVLA office is Bristol, Stoke Gifford I couldn't find when it closes - just said alot of offices are closing by end of 2013...

Bristol is listed as having closed a fortnight ago, I think its a V70 you'll have to fill in and get the V5C changed with Swansea.

I comleted the V5G when I purchased the vehicle, so will this need changing before or after the tax?

so do I have to get tax from my local post office if Bristol DVLA is closed?

I believe the V70 is for changing a vehicle from one paying tax class to another paying tax class, so maybe I should fill in a V10 as its from none paying to paying
  • This can be done at a Post Office that issues tax discs (I have done ex Fire brigade vehicles there)

Go fully armed with V5/green slip. Insurance. Payment & a V10. If you don't have the V5 & only the green slip then you will need to fill in a V62 & possibly need to pay £25 depending on the circumstances.
