DON"T KNOW HOW TO PUT IT INTO A LITTLE BOX THING.
I feel proud of each and everyone of us! No matter how much or how little you have paid, you have recognised that you need to do something and have made those steps towards taking action, and that is a really difficult thing to do. Well done everybody!:D

I echo the sentiment not sure I've done so well though. This year my mum is poorly and needs a big op in Jan and well... So I'm pushing the boat out this Christmas not going crazy but going to the pictures and the pantomine and out for meals cuz it might be last we are all together. And my car is dead so I have to get it fixed to take her out. But next year I am bang on it but for now different priorities. I will check in with final totals next week.

Chin up and keep the faith :) Not every month can be a good one so don't worry about it... fresh start in January!
  • My online wage slip is available tomorrow so I'll be able to see how much extra take home pay I've actually got for all the overtime I've done this month. Will do my budget and input to YNAB then so I will know how much I can pay off my debts.
Whilst if like to make a big dent in this final £1k I still have a lot of Christmas shopping left to do and we are doing a boxing day buffet so there is that to plan for.
I'm going to make sure I really look at social activities too. A great tip I got from here last year was to commit to social activities for the month upfront and go to those. It's so easy in December to get roped into a lot of expense things that I've planned most trips upfront so u don't blow the budget.
Pay off Debts by Christmas 2015 = DEBT FREE! :)

150 Here with a long overdue update!

Debts now stand at £5737.54 which means I've paid off, in total, £6742.46.

Hoping to make another payment and report back with my final amount before the end of 2014!

To be honest I feel like my heads only just getting into the zone so fingers crossed the remainder is rid of quickly.

Well done to everyone - although I haven't contributed a lot I have been reading the thread regularly.

Just popping by to say Hi. Feel a bit in limbo waiting for the 2015 thread to start. I've got my target and spreadsheet ready, I am quite sad and keep updating my spreadsheet with imaginary payments to see how quickly I can repay the debts!!

    I do this too! :rotfl:
Well done Rachiedabbler on reaching target again. I'll do a roll of honour in a sec.

I've been leading up to announcing that I'm going to be resigning from the thread at the end of this challenge. Like a little mind reader, Pablosammy has been in touch to ask to take over the challenge from me, so I'm very pleased to say that the challenge will live on under Pablosammy's watchful eye next year!

My working day has become a bit longer, and we are being promised a heck-load of work and overtime. I think I'm going to be absent more than's fair, and don't want that to interfere with all your hard effort!

Thanks all for keeping the thread going, and keeping things interesting over the last year - I'll be here 'til the end of 2014, but good luck everyone :)

Thank you so much and you have been much better than I was last year, especially not going on maternity leave from the thread :rotfl::rotfl: But seriously, thanks to you and Pablosammy for volunteering :T

My latest figures by the way:

    #001 £4,264 / £49,000 8.70%

We still have a HUGE mountain to climb but it really feels like we are getting somewhere in the last few months and things look set to keep getting better. Fingers crossed!

Well done everyone that has become debt free :T:T:T

Been mia for several months and a bit of a failure on the debt reduction front. My debt increased last month. However I am still not back to the position I was in last January and have paid for a damp proof course, roof repairs, new kitchen ceiling (leak under the bath) a 'new to me' kitchen and supplies for redecorating throughout the house - downstairs and the kitchen were necessary consequences of the dpc.

Things went off plan this year. Originally I wanted the house up for sale by the end of March. This would have paid off all my debt with some to spare (part of the proceeds were earmarked for finding something that suited me and my mother. as I have agreed that she can come to live with me if/when anything happens to her partner.

Due to the cost of the dpc (borrowed son's interest free student overdraft but had to repay this in January and April) I was initially doing all the work myself. However by February I was having problems - was initially ordered to rest for three weeks then did weeks of physiotherapy.

In August I was finally diagnosed as having severe arthritis in my right hip and referred for a surgical consult (so from no diagnosis to the end of the line - no other options). In October the surgeon agreed the hip was so bad ('one of the worst he had seen') that a total hip replacement was my only option.

The waiting list was 2- 3 months but when I went to the education day they had me penciled in for 2 weeks later. When the letter arrived it gave me three weeks (op was 13th November) and I managed to move house (middle son had been renting my old 2 bed terrace) and get the house up for sale (estate agent was wrong choice but was running out of time).

Currently recovering from the op (lots of restrictions on what I can do), income for the year negligible (would have been eligible for disability payments if diagnosis had come sooner but only time from date of diagnosis counts) and big costs for last month (van and petrol, one supplier wanted yearly fee up front - should have been next Feb and some bills to be paid on both houses + did an enormous shop as 6 weeks minimum on crutches).

Going forward there should be some rebates and small amounts to come back once things are sorted, my bills here are rock bottom and the other house is mainly pay for what you use. House will sell sometime in the year (estate agent will be sorted) and from mid February onwards I should be better than I was before the operation (big reduction in pain already) and should continue to improve from then on.

So I will be back next year, more determined than ever and will be one of next year's success stories. Sorry for letting you down this year, you are all wonderful.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
