Only one more pay day left this year now and not being one to celebrate December will not have any affect on my debt reduction.
Total debt reduction for month of November is a huge £1704.48. going to be honest and update my total debt, which is SHOCKING.

    Happy December everyone!

This months payments have gone out today taking me to over 5K paid off this year :)

    #163: £5149/9141 (56%)

I get paid again this month on the 23rd December so one more chance to make a few more payments before Christmas. Looking forward to January when I can increase payments to the credit cards and the debt-busting will get serious again.

  • Keep going everyone!

I've had an expensive weekend at a friend's wedding, which was regrettable but unavoidable. I ended up doing the wedding photography, so stayed relatively sober (and hence MSE!) but two nights in a hotel hit the bank balance. On a positive note, none of it went on the credit card, which I've been trying to avoid using despite the 0.5% cashback. If I can get through Christmas without using it, I'm tempted to cut it up

What do people reckon - keep the CC in a drawer in case of emergencies, or cut it up to avoid the temptation altogether?
  • Depends how disciplined you are!

I'm terrible when it comes to credit cards, I'll use them to go to the pub if I've got no other money, so once I've paid mine off I'll never be getting one again!

I think once I've got an emergency fund equivalent to my credit limit, I'll be happy to close the account. In the meantime, I think it'll get the scissor treatment, but I'll keep the account open and order a replacement card if an emergency crops up.
