marliepanda sounds like you may work different amounts of hours per week? Your tax will be calculated on a cumulative basis and new tax year started 4th April

I do overtime some weeks yes, but I never got any tax back throughout my payslips last year. I need to check out my p60, but I worked for two companies so its a bit of an awkward one!

They did say I would be put on a week 1 month 1 basis when I updated my tax allowance (changed companies) not that I really knew what that meant!

I have just received my yearly loan statement. It normally consists of 1 page. This year it has 4 pages showing all my overpayments.

    #100 £11.64 £5411.64

I have taken my head out of the sand and made a payment of 11.64 to check the new account details. Next payment on Thursday. .002% there already and 33% in to the challenge.

It's a little better than that - 0.22%! and 0.22% in the right direction...

Do you think I should continue at this level of direct debit to pay the student loan, and divert any extra cash towards building up an emergency fund, or should I be sending all surplus money to the student loans in order to clear it quicker??

I always had my definition of being "debt free" as being clear of unsecured debts, but now don't know if the student loan should be included in this definition or not?

I don't include student loan either. It sounds bad, but I don't really view it as debt. It comes off before my wages hit my bank account, I can't default on a payment, and the interest is reasonable. I think there are other things to focus on first for me at least...

I've realised I hadn't added in my store cards! I've updated my signature to reflect all debts and totals. Right. I'm severely depressed, I never ever thought it was that much but I know I am in the right place to get it down though so here goes .....

It's a horrible feeling, but like you say, you're in the right place, and you're starting to deal with it. Your debts will go down from here on in, and you won't be so inclined to get into debt again. Sending hugs!

  • Sorry MC!!

    #153 £369 paid / £9790 debt (3.8%)

Feeling very proud of myself - I've managed to make some additional payments towards the end of April, totalling £74.86 - woohoo!! I've just been transferring tiny amounts here & there but it all adds up.

I'm fully budgeted for May already (have been for 2 weeks!) and updating my spending diary & spreadsheet as I go along. The only unexpected spend so far (I get paid on 25th of the month, so I budget from that date), is to the local chemist for some hayfever spray (£5.40) as I'm really suffering overnight, more than ever.

Still reading everyone's updates which helps to keep me focussed

Well done to all of you who are making progress!
