*Stop The Cavalry* It's The 2014 Christmas Chatter Thread

Hello! I was on the 2013 equivalent of this board and I've been lurking on this one in my lunchbreaks at work for some festive cheer. I was going to wait until after my birthday (next Friday!) before I got into full-on Christmas mode, but I've caved!
This is a busy time of year for me - it's my birthday, my brother's birthday and my boyfriend's birthday in quick succession, and then, of course, Christmas! It seems as though Christmas celebrations are happening extremely early this year though. I'm missing my work 'Christmas' party as it's on the 21st November (!) when I'll be in Marrakech!
My brother (21) asked me the other day what I wanted for my birthday. I suggested a few of the festive bits from Lush, and a look of sheer panic washed over his face. I asked if it would help if I gave him a list of products to choose from (so there would still be SOME element of surprise), and he said yes. On Thursday, he said he was going 'late night shopping'... and approximately ten minutes after he would normally get home, he waltzed in looking very proud of himself with a beautifully scented rucksack. Who knew late night shopping could be started and completed by 5.45pm?!0 -
Hello, I've just stumbled across you, and as I am a Christmasophile, I'd like to join you.
I've been doing my own thing at Christmas for 38 years as I left home at 18 and have never been back at Christmas, just too many of us in the family, and now we are all so much older, it's probably best that we all stick to what we know and love. I have wonderful memories of childhood Christmases thanks to my Mum who loved Christmas. Thank the Lord that she did - I really feel for those who hate the season due to bad memories. I get so much pleasure out of the whole shebang.
This year I would like to have friends who would otherwise be on their own over, every year I pile on the weight with too many festive goodies, but this has to be the year it doesn't happen, as I have severe arthritis in my hip and losing weight has eased pain and improved mobility.
Having said all that, A!di have their early Christmas bits in. A box of all-chocolate biscuits looks great value at £2.99, so with a £5 Mirror voucher for this week and next, that went in the trolley.
A bag of 'peanut and cashew salt and vinegar crunch' went in as well. These are a mix of partly coated peanuts and cashews seasoned with s&v flavour, they won't see Christmas but some more will, if I can hide them from DS, who at 31, should know better.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Afternoon everyone, i have just put together and wrapped my hampers in cellophane, the Just Add Ice Cream looks fab but seen as i have wrapped in a double layer of cellophane i cant take a proper photo duh!!!! But here is a photo of my friends mini tea hamper:
JJ oh that is great news that things are happening quickly for you already at the London hospital, wishing you lots of luck xx
MRSCHRISTMAS oh thankyou for replying about phone perhaps i should just use laptop stillaww i really feel for you not being with your girls, i know having a St Christopher is a bit old fashioned these days but i wont let her go anywhere travelling without it, and actually she quite likes the idea of it keeping her safe as well, i bought it from Argos about 3 years ago and it was only about £20. Mmm gingerbread i just fancy some now :rotfl:
KAYA hi and welcome back, bless your brother, love the late night shopping but thats men for you just get what they need then out haha
MRSINVISIBLE :rotfl::rotfl:oh how i have missed you
MCCULLOCH hi and welcome to our lovely thread, oh that is so lovely of you thinking of others alone at christmas, well done you x#103 1p Saving Challenge Back to Front 293.94/665.95Currently Reading: Christmas at Cedarwood Lodge - Rebecca Raisin Debt Free thanks to MSE0 -
Ha ha Mrs Invisible - I've done that before now, woken up with a great idea to resolve a problem that I then remember was in a dream lol.
JJ - good to see you posting again, will keep everything crossed that things go well with the scan and you get to have a fabulous and incident-free Christmas.
BabyBoo - sending lots of positive vibes your way, hope everything goes well for you.
Feisty - I know what you mean about being put off things by comments people make. Silly of us to be affected by it but very hard not to be. Hope Mr Feisty is ok and you've been able to keep him upbeat despite his health problems.
Freespirit, I think it's lovely that you've given DD a St Christopher to keep her safe. I'm not a religious person and I'm definitely not superstitious but I still think its nice - like your love will keep her safe. You may think it's odd to not be superstitious and yet believe in Santa but I don't see any contradiction at all, after all, Santa is REAL
I know there were other people I wanted to mention but I didn't write them down or multi-quote them so needless to say they've gone right out of my head now.
Like Mrs Christmas I spent most of yesterday watching QVC - at least this month it was mainly Christmassy stuff even if it was the same stuff all day lol. Getting loads done today but still managing to keep an eye on the Christmas films on True Christmas.
Still losing hours on the elf FB page - Mrs Gigglewick you have a lot to answer for lol!!!! Off now to research Elf doors (magic doors the elf comes through of course) in the middle of decorating one and want it to look just right.
Only 2 months now to the BIG DAY - woo hoo!!!!!It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
Wow, thread moved on while I was writing my lengthy post. Welcome back Kaya and welcome McCulloch.
Freespirit, like the mini-hamper. I've used that basket a couple of times during the year - isn't it a fab shape for displaying hamper stuff.
Right, I'm really going now, hope you all have a lovely day. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
